    Acima 2021
Is a Rent to lease company, but i was never told this was the case. I did not know that was thr case. I thought it was a line of credit. The company is now filing charges against me for attempt to defraud a financial institute. I have not received any settlement offers or even collection notices until today. I still have not received documentation, only a phone call. On this phone call I was told there was no opportunity to settle the debt, I could only fight the allegations s to defraud them in court. When I asked what the alleged breach of contract and amount was, I was told a figure 300% more than the original line of credit. Or what I thought was a line of credit....now a RTO. I know they are being sued by the CFPB, and now I am just one of the customers that was deceived by this company. Without the opportunity to arrange a settlement.

Acima Leasing (hereinafter “us,” “we,” “our,”) received the complaint filed by Ms. ********* ***** through the Better Business Bureau (“BBB”) on May 22, 2025. We investigated her complaint and prepared the following response.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

The company you've sold my account to does not disclose who they are, now do they give an option for communication.  Only threats.  Even when I asked how the matter could be resolved, I was told it was beyond that point, yet continue to receive calls telling me they are proceeding with "allegations" against me.  In addition, they represented themselves as Acima.  Otherwise, I would have pursued this complaint against them.  You may not own my account, but you are the originator and did not disclose that this is a Rent to own agreement, then increased the interest to 300%.  I doubt the collection company you sold my collection to was the creator of these terms. You should also know the company you use to pursue these debts assumes these harassing practices. They attempt to scare clients and when I asked for a solution and was denied, it also denies your opportunity to recoup any losses, which is the purpose for the collections practice.

I've lived at the same address since this purchase was made and have not received any correspondence about my account, or options before it was sold or escalated to threats of filing allegations against me on public record.  My phone number hasn't changed either, yet they are calling my family members and discussing private account info with them as well.  Both were told it was "ACIMA" calling to "locate" me.  I still haven't received one price of correspondence from acima or collections attorneys USA.

I FULLY intend to file a complaint against them as their practices are extremely invasive and harassing.

    Sincerely,

    ********* *****

As of 5/21/2025 this morning, I was contacted by a tire shop business that an account was opened under my name. It looked suspicious to them and wanted to verify if it indeed was me. As the person had made the application on line for acima leasing. The person in question is using my identity to make a purchase over 1000 dollars with the business. I've contacted acima to report it and was given an email address to report the fraude. The address cannot be reached, only this is the site I'm sent to. They told me this how I can have my account completely closed so no further activity can be made to my account.

When I had first turned about 5 years ago or so when I had first moved out and finished school I had used Acima to finance a bed set for a place I was moving in to. I had fallen into financial hardship shortly after, and was not able to keep up payments. I kept the bed because I needed something to sleep on. I'm being accused of intending on defrauding Acima, which just isn't true, and of breaching a contract. It was never my intent to defraud anyone, I did keep the bed, but only because I saw that as a better alternative than sleeping on the ground. As I said this was maybe 4-5 years ago. Just today I find out that I am being served with papers, for a debt in the amount of less than $1000, for a bed I financed years ago. I don't mind doing payment plans now, but what I am being accused of just isn't true, and to have this happen 5 years after the fact seems a little ridiculous.

I had plumbing work done by Lavergne plumbing they told me I could pay $76.00 a month for 120 months or more until 2900.00 bill paid . now acima says if I don't pay balance within 90 days they will charge 5000.00. in interest so I would then owe $6,600.00. that's crazy

Acima Leasing (hereinafter “us,” “we,” “our” received the complaint filed by Ms. ***** ********* through the Better Business Bureau (“BBB”) on May 19, 2025. We investigated her complaint and prepared the following response.

Acima Leasing transactions are not financing, loans, or same as cash arrangements. Acima Leasing is a rent-to-own organization offering an alternative option of financing. We do not charge “interest” as Ms. ********* states, we do however charge a daily lease rate. On April 29, 2025, Ms. ********* hired an independent third-party contractor – LaVergne Plumbing & Heating - (the “Retailer”) – in Everson, Washington. She applied and was approved for our leasing service. On that same date, she selected merchandise (the “Property”), and we sent Ms. Kropp a link to the rental-purchase agreement (the “Agreement”) via SMS text message to her phone. Ms. ********* electronically entered the Agreement on her own device, certifying that she read and agreed to its terms and conditions. Further, prior to being presented with the Agreement, Ms. ********* was provided, again on her own device, a lease summary screen that provides all of the salient pricing terms of the Agreement including the maximum cost to own, early purchase options, the short-term renewal payment frequency, and other important information. Ms. ********* could obtain ownership of the Property by making an initial payment equal to $70.00 plus tax plus 12 monthly renewal payments of $573.33 plus tax, for a total of $6,949.86 plus tax (the “Total of Payments”) plus tax. Ms. ********* could also elect to utilize an Early Purchase Option, or terminate the Agreement.

As a courtesy to the customer, Acima Leasing offers two Early Purchase Options (“EPO”); each of which reduces the cost of ownership to the customer and terminates the Agreement earlier than the 12-month Rental Period contained within. The first EPO (“EPO”) and the only EPO discussed in Ms. *********’s complaint is a 90-day EPO where a customer can obtain ownership of the Property within the first 90 days of the Agreement by paying the disclosed purchase price. Ms. ********* has a FEPO purchase price of $3045.63 before tax Additionally, Ms. ********* was also provided a link to Acima Leasing’s customer portal, located at *************************** where she could log in to view a copy of the Agreement at any time, view the status of her lease, and make payments. The second EPO stipulates a customer may obtain ownership at any point after the first 90 days by paying a lump sum payment equivalent to 65% of any remaining renewal payments plus any past-due rent. This option will be available to Ms. ********* until the end of the lease term.

To repeat, Ms. ********* was presented with a summary screen on her own device that described in detail the salient pricing and other important terms contained in the Agreement. We confirm that Acima Leasing conducted due diligence by providing all pertinent information including a full copy of the Agreement prior to allowing Ms. ********* to sign. Moreover, Ms. ********* was required to scroll to the bottom of the Agreement before signing, providing her the opportunity to review its provisions in full.

As we confirm the leasing costs were presented to Ms. ********* prior to being able to sign the Agreement and that we conducted our due diligence, we consider this complaint closed. For further questions Ms. ********* may contact customer service, by calling ***** ********

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because Acima says they do not charge interest, however, my receipt from LaVergne Plumbing was for $2,935.00.  Acima charged me $3,1000+ at the start of this transaction (I found out later through phone calls with Acima representatives).  If this $200.00 isn't interest what is it.  After my $76.00+ initial payment Acima said I could pay $623.00 a month, however, the 90 day period would now amount to $2600.00.  There is no way $623.00 for 90 days could pay $2600.00 (I paid $623.00 on 5/20/25).

    Sincerely,

    ***** *********

Once the customer elects to utilize a lease approval, Acima Leasing purchases merchandise selected by the customer from the retailer and then rents the merchandise to the customer through a terminable rental-purchase agreement, that contains all disclosures including payment amounts, purchase options, and a termination option, as required by applicable law. Ms. ********* was presented with educational screens prior to being presented with the lease application. This information clearly notes that Acima Leasing does not offer loans, credit, or financing, and provides other important information that must be reviewed before the application process begins.

Acima Leasing does not charge interest as our leasing product is not a credit product. Ms. ********* elected to utilize Acima Leasing Leasing’s services, as such, she agreed to pay the cost of our services, in addition to the cost of the property that she would have paid for had she purchased the merchandise from the retailer directly. Pursuant to Ms. *********’s Agreement, the cost of rental is $3,954.23, and the Acima Cash Price of $2,758.93, together it equates to the total of payments of $6,235.18. This is the amount Ms. ********* would pay if she were to make all regular rental renewal payments; she may also purchase early and save or elect to terminate her Agreement. We confirm that Acima Leasing conducted due diligence by providing all pertinent information including a full copy of the Agreement prior to allowing Ms. ********* to sign. We have provided her with the option to receive the leased property immediately and allowed her to make rent payments over time, with the option to purchase later or return the Property and terminate the Agreement.

For clarification, utilizing the 90-day EPO is entirely optional and to take advantage of this option, Ms. ********* must meet the 90-day EPO total of $3,045.63 before tax, or $3,313.64 after tax. The Purchase Terms are discussed in Paragraph 3 of Ms. *********’s Agreement, “You are not automatically enrolled in early purchase options. To purchase early call ***** ******** or go to **************************.” As this is an optional Ms. ********* must initiate additional payments or a purchase payment for the remainder to meet the 90-day EPO purchase total on or before the expiration date of August 5, 2025.

For further questions Ms. ********* may contact customer service, by calling ***** ********

On April 9th, I got approved for a leasing amount of $2,625 by Acima leasing. Acima lease #********.This was done at the Foothills Family furniture store in ********. This was for a 3- Sectional couch. The day of delivery, the store let me know there was a bit of confusion and they didn't have the exact couch I had chosen. The couch they delivered did not fit in my door and they took it back with them. The next day I contacted Acima leasing and Foothills Furniture and asked them to cancel the lease. I have spoken with multiple **** from Acima leasing since then and this has not been resolved. I informed them I had revoked the payments as I wanted the lease canceled. I talked to my bank and stopped any payments going out to them since the product is not even in my possession. I have still been getting texts, calls, and emails regarding making the payments. I'm tired of explaining the same thing to different **** and being given the runaround. I call and I'm kept on hold for over 30 minutes and still the issue doesn't get resolved. I was even on the phone with both Acima and Foothills Family furniture **** and it was confirmed the merchandise was in Foothills' possession. I was specific on what I wanted and didn't get which makes the sale null and void. I would like the communication from Acima Leasing to cease. I can't return the merchandise as it is not in my possession. ****** the lease.
