    this website scammed me out of 250 dollars for a free EIN service from IRS. Do not be dumb like me to give your information to them. they also misspelled the company name

    This company, Tax ID Support, charged me $250 to apply for an Employer Identification Number, which I later learned was FREE through the **** I was misled that this company was affiliated with the *** and therefore feel like I was scammed. I also see that there have been at least 100 similar BBB complaints to mine.

    The business has not made a concerted effort to show that it is not an affiliate of the **** They use the same color scheme. Further, the service provides no value-add; it simply submits information to the *** as one would do directly on the *** site. I see a lot of responses that are essentially "read more closely" but the fact is that Tax ID Support has minimized any evidence of the lack of affiliation. They will not make this refund as their business plan is solely to protect their scam but I write hoping to prevent others from making a similar mistake.

    My complaint is in regard to the lack of clarity on the relationship (it's only in the fine details). The business is expressing a lot of "technically correct" items. However, my larger concern is just making it more broadly known to the public to read the fine print and ignore the nearly identical color scheme.

    On January 17, 2023, I ended up on a website that appeared to be the **** I applied for an *** number and was charged $250.00 to establish an *** for my parent's estate. Later that day, I discovered that the *** does not charge for creating an **** Furthermore, I needed no other service from anyone, just the **** I immediately called the company, but the agent who answered the phone said that the *** document was already sent to me (and a number already generated). She said there is no way to cancel the number, or provide me a refund. She told me that I paid the money and that there is nothing she can do for me now. I would like a refund of $250 since I did not need, and will never need services from this company, and thought I was dealing directly with the **** I would also like my records purged from this company's systems to protect the *** from vulnerabilities. I am appalled that this company would take advantage of people trying to settle the accounts of their deceased loved ones.

    I am rejecting this response because:  The site looked too much like the *** site (I thought I was on the official *** site) and did not prominently display that the "service" I am paying for can be obtained for free directly from the ***, that there is no other service that I am benefiting from for this $250.  I only needed the *** and no other service - and could have gotten it directly from the *** if I had realized this wasn't the official site.   I would like my $250 refunded.  Regarding the purging of data, I do not want this company to have access to my *** - the number in and of itself creates a risk to the estate as it can be used by bad actors to do damage.  I also would like all PII purged, including my address and email.

This is being handled as a dispute by the credit card company (as referenced in your previous response), but as of early afternoon today they have not received your response to their inquiries.  Once they have received your response and the credit has been issued, I will mark this as satisfactory.  Thank you for agreeing to purge my data.  Please let me know when that is done.  Lastly, my understanding from the *** is that they cannot "cancel" the *** it generated, so I must use that number for the estate transactions instead of creating a new one through their site.  If this is incorrect, please let me know.  Thank you.

    I went to file for an ein and thought I was on the irs website. Was charged $250. Want the request cancelled with a full refund. It was 7:30 pm est. Their offices are closed.     I was applying for a FEIN for the first time and this website was linked from another legitimate website. They are essentially presenting themselves as a legitimate government entity (the **** by the way they name their site and present their information and do not have a clear and upfront disclaimer about who they really are until you look at the very bottom of their website (which you wouldn't automatically do if you already think you are working with the ****. There should be a header/banner across the top for people to see what company they are working with so they can make a reasonably informed decision instead of being tricked. They know they are scamming people; the website design, address and setup are all intentional. The customer service agent was incredibly rude and literally hung up on me after stating they don't do refunds. I filled out the form and unfortunately provided a lot of sensitive information and was charged $250 for something that is FREE directly through the government. Though the agent said that my information was purged from their system, I've already cancelled my card and will be contacting the three credit bureaus out of caution and concern. I will also be disputing this charge and will post honest reviews everywhere I possibly can so that people will be aware of this. This was an incredibly disheartening experience.

    Our website looks nothing like the *** website. The customer service agent you spoke with was very nice but explained to you several times that we could not cancel due to the service being provided. After you continued to repeat yourself and the conversation going nowhere, the agent asked if there was anything else she could assist you with and you continued on. At this point she told you to have a good day and disconnected the call. 

    We do not keep any personal information of our clients once we have provided the service. Sensitive information is completely purged from our records.

    By the overwhelming number of complaints this website/business has had, it is obvious that they have not made it sufficiently clear that they are not affiliated with the **** This site was indeed linked from another legitimate website and therefore did not display the word "AD" anywhere in the link. If this company was as clear and upfront as they say, they wouldn't have received the flood of negative comments that are currently posted on the BBB website and several other review sites. They state that their website looks nothing like the *** website. This is untrue. They use an almost identical form and very similar coloring. It it clear that they intentionally designed their site to be ambiguous. If not, they would clearly state their name at the top of each page and remind their unwitting/unwilling customers that they are not a government site. I would like them to do the right thing and offer a refund.

    I am rejecting this response because:

    Your Website is deceiving, it mimics the *** and when you asked for payment, it said for *** application. Even after being charged my credit card statement, said *** on it.  Indicating that I just paid the ***.

    If you were really a support service, and not trying to deceive or fool elderly folks, you would stated this fact at the top of your website and again before asking for payment. Instead, you hide all of that, and in fine print all the way far at the bottom in small font, of which I needed to re-look at after the fact. Which still doesnt say you are not the ***, but instead says you help with *** application.

    Once I spoke to the *** and got on the real site, it asked exactly the same questions, page by page, I was done in less than 3 minutes.  So you didnt do anything more in providing a service than the regular *** site.  THIS IN ITSELF SHOWS THAT YOU ARE A SCAM, and the amount charged is outrageous for the service provided.  $250!  ANOTHER RED FLAG THAT THIS IS HOW YOU TRAP FOLKS, because as soon as you hit pay, you can never get the money back because within minutes your company gets the *** NUMBER.

    I only paid because I truly believed (scammed by your site) that this was the true cost to be paid to the *** to receive a tax ID number for my husbands estate.  In reality the *** doesnt charge a *****.

    SCAMMING PEOPLE OUT OF MONEY IS WHAT SCAMMERS DO!  You have put all the effort into making your website seem and feel like the ***s website.

    If you were a real business you wouldnt hide what you are or what service you are providing in fine print at the bottom of your webpage.

    You would, like any legitimate business, publicize it at the top, explaining who you are, and what you do.  Instead, you do your best to deceive and hide what this site is.

    This dispute is not over and if I have to go as public on this as I can, I will!

    The charge on ******* credit card does not say ***. It states *************. The application was placed on 01/03/2023 at 10:19 AM CST and the *** number was not even assigned until 01/04/2023 at 4:02 PM CST and sent to the email address on file. As tried to explain to you over the phone regarding your mothers account, we took you to our website and showed you where it states who we are and that we are a Third-************** You stated that ****** had already filed a dispute against the charge, and it was explained to you several times there was nothing we could do at that point. Yes, we ask the same questions because it is an SS-4 application, and the questions remain the same regardless of who you file through. If you actually went onto the *** website, you could tell the website's look nothing alike. Our URL is not ***.GOV.

    Now, as explained over the phone, we cannot issue a refund. We will wait to hear from ******* credit card company.

    I needed to get a EIN for my business. I did a search and Tax ID Support came up and was definitely not clear that it was a third party site, not the **** I submitted a form and paid $250. I became suspicious and did some digging and found out what was really going on. I contacted my bank and as the charge is still pending I can't do anything on their end yet. I finally got a hold of someone from Tax ID and they said they would cancel my order. They did send a cancellation email saying it could take **** days. I have my doubts as to whether I will see that money again based upon what I am reading here.

    Needing an EIN number for my business, I went on the internet and googled irs EIN number and this scamming business came up first on the list. On 12/20/22 at approximately **** pm I applied, paid $250.00 dollars and sent. Upon more research I realized it was a scam and you can get your EIN from the *** directly which I thought I was on. I asked for a refund but they refused. As a college student this money I lost hit me hard in addition to causing me so much worry about my personal information being compromised and possibly a potential victim of identity theft

    We received your application on 12/20/2022 at 8:14 PM CST. Your application was processed and sent to the email address on 12/21/2022 at 9:04 AM CST. At 1:50 PM CST we received an email requesting to delete all personal information and to refund the fee. We stated that once we have assigned an active *** number, we cannot cancel/refund. You contacted our office at 1:53 PM CST by phone stating that we were a scam and that you did not read where it stated we are a Third-************** Our representative explained to you that since we have assigned an active *** number, we cannot cancel the application and explained where that information is stated on our website before placing the application. You stated that you were contacting your bank. The representative stated that we would wait to hear from them. You then had someone come of the phone and start yelling at the representative and she explained that we could not speak with him since it was not you.  You then emailed us asking if your personal information was deleted and if we sold your information to another company. We explained in email that all personal information such as social is purged from our system once the *** number has been assigned and that we do not sell your personal information to anyone. 

    You expressed your feelings and concerns about our company stating that we scammed you and it purposely comes up first on a ****** search. Our office manager explained to you every step on our website and all the information you "missed" when placing the application. We explained that ****** has the word "AD" next to the link, we explained that we have several pages on our website and disclaimers explaining that we are not the *** and that you can file this information at no charge through the ***. She explained that we are a paid service and gave you an example of another service you can do for free or pay someone to handle it for you. You stated that you did not need our justification regarding our practice. 

    Again, your personal information was not sold to any other company, and we no longer have access to your social. 

    You agreed to our terms of service stating that if we provide the service, you are not due a refund.

    On 12/16/22 I decided to finally get an EIN for my LLC that I just formed for the first time. I googled how to get an EIN and this website was the first that popped up and it said *** on it so I thought it was the right one. I proceeded to fill out all of my information and pay the $250 only to later discover that this website is NOT the *** or even remotely close to a government website. I have already disputed the charges with my credit card company because an EIN is free, and now this company has all of my personal sensitive information. I am now worried about identity theft since this company has my SSN. This company is fraudulent and meant only to deceive and harm consumers.

    I am rejecting this response because: the website appears to the untrained eye to represent the **** The questions asked are the same exact questions with the same wording that the *** uses. The only disclaimer on the home page is in tiny print at the very bottom. This website appears on a ****** search before the official irs.gov site. All of these things show that the site is intended to defraud the public. I am demanding a refund, purging of my sensitive information permanently from any and all databases immediately, and for your company to rescind the *** assigned to me.
