I purchased Leaf Filter to make sure that I would not have any issues with clogged cutters since my husband passed away and I cannot get on the latter to clean them out. I was told that with the warranty they have all I had to do was contact Leaf Filter if I had any issues and they would send someone out. I contacted Leaf Filter customer service today, ******** to have a service man come out as part of the guttering filter they installed in October 2021 is coming up out of the gutter. They said that they could send someone out for a $95.00 service fee. I was told by the sales rep that there wouldn't be any service fees with the warranty. I cannot afford the $95.00 and since whatever it is they place on your gutters should not be rising out of the gutters there should not be any service fee for their poor workmanship.

In early 2021 we were looking to fix a problem we had been having with water leaking between our gutters and our house. I found a local (I thought) company online that dealt with gutters called ************* and gave them a call. No one answered so I left a message. When I received a call back, the call was from Leaf Filter. This was confusing and should have been my first clue to just hang up, but I listened to what was said and the idea of having something to prevent gutters getting clogged was appealing. During that call, I discussed my reason for calling in the first place and it was understood that my main problem was the leaking between our gutter and the house. I agree to have a salesman come out to look at gutters and get a quote.******************* came out on June 30, 2021 to look at gutters, detail what was involved and give us a quote. His looking at gutters involved him using a selfie stick so he could get his phone up to the gutter and take a picture. I was VERY CLEAR that our problem we needed corrected was the leaking between the gutters and the house to be taken care of as the main priority. Preventing leaves clogging the gutters was just an additional plus. I stressed this repeatedly and I was told the way the Leaf Filter system is installed it would definitely take care of our leaking problem. We agreed to the price and wrote a check for $4,843.00. Besides installing the Leaf Filter system, the price included adding one down spout and one extension.I do not know the date of the installation, but we were not made aware of any issues preventing the proper installation of the Leaf Filter system. During the next heavy rain, we could see that there was no difference in the leaking between the gutter and house. It was as if nothing had been done. We called Leaf Filter and asked to have someone come out and fix the issue. At first we were told that our roof didnt come out far enough to get the water over the front edge of the gutter. Later, we were told that our gutters had been installed incorrectly in 2017. There was no drip edge and this was why there was still leaking. The improper installation of our gutters was obviously not the fault of Leaf Filter, but they should have communicated that Leaf Filter wouldn't fix the problem they had 100% guaranteed it would. Instead of letting us know about this, installation proceeded even though it was obviously not going to prevent the leaking issue that we wanted resolved. I was obviously not happy with the outcome and was given the name and number of ***** to try to get this issue resolved. I had multiple conversations with ***** and even said I would pay his guys extra to resolve our primary problem. ***** told me they "weren't gutter guys" and he offered no help at all. ***** told me they could take off the Leaf Filter stuff and if I could find someone to correct the primarly problem I was having, they would come out and reintall the Leaf Filter stuff. I asked several gutter people to help me out to accomplish this and NO ONE will touch them as long as Leaf Filter is involved. In summary, I was guaranteed by the Leaf Filter salesman that their product would fix my leaking problem. Installation was completed in spite of being able to obviously see that there would still be an issue with the leaking which was my primary problem. I had even agreed to pay someone more to try to help resolve the problem. I have $4,843.00 of Leaf Filter stuff on my gutters that still leak just as bad as they did before installation. No one will touch my gutters to try to fix my problem. My only option at this point is to just have everything replaced and start with new gutters installed correctly. That means the $4,843.00 of Leaf Filter stuff will just end up in the trash.

Customer leaking issues are not regarding the ** product installed but are caused by pre-existing roofing issues.  The customer already had flex tape installed between gutter and drip edge to prevent leaking before our filters were installed and did not disclose these known issues before installation.  Leaf Filter neither caused nor exacerbated the issues unrelated to the install.

      Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:  They have still never ONCE addressed what my complaint was regarding them.  It is infuriating to me that they completely refuse to completely disregard my actual complaint.  I didn't even call them.  THEY called me after I reached out to what i thought was a local company BECAUSE I WAS HAVING LEAKING BETWEEN MY GUTTERS AND HOUSE!!!!  That was the problem.  I didn't need to disclose it to them.  That was the problem.  When their salesman came to our house, we made it extremely clear that was our problem.  He promised us that the Leaf Filter system would make it impossible for water to leak between the gutter and our house.  Repeatedly, he promised that.  We didn't care about leaves and other debris in our gutters.  Our problem was the leaking.  I have told them this repeatedly and they just keep saying it isn't their fault.  We were 100% guaranteed the leaking would be fixed.  If they disagree with that, so be it.  But their sales representative sold us a product with a 100% guarantee when he shouldn't have.  That is not our problem.  That is a Leaf Filter problem.  Their failure to acknowledge this and make an attempt to make it right tells me all I need to know about their company.  My only recourse is to get all new gutters and throw their $5,000 of worthless product into the trash.  If they once again put all of this onto us and claim no responsibility for the faulty claims of their sales representative, I will just proceed with other options.

Leaffilter gutter guards installed April 2022. Screws and debris were left on job site at the end of the installation. Gutters leaked and installer came back twice to reseal the gutter seams. Gutters continued to leak.

Then cold weather/snow arrived and ice dams formed. Company inspector arrived November 10th and inspected the job. We were advised product was not the correct product for our job and installation was completely wrong and would have to be totally replaced. This has taken 12 phone calls to the company and at this point we just want the product removed and a full refund before ice dams damage our home.

Leaf Filter has contacted the customer to schedule service. However the customer has refused to allow us to come out and address the issues.        I am rejecting this response because:

A second inspector - Corporate Manager *** **** - was at the house yesterday.  He could tell from the driveway the product was installed incorrectly but he did get on a ladder, inspect it from the top, took pictures.  Ice dams are forming again.  There was no offer to immediately remove the product to prevent the ice dams from getting bigger or to prevent damaging the facer boards or roofing tiles.  He said it would take him 10 days to make a decision regarding our request for removal and refund.  Every time we ask to escalate this to someone who can make a decision on our request for removal/refund, they are unable to give us a name or number.  *** **** said he was unable to m make a decision.  Upon insisting we are provided name and number of someone who CAN make that decision, he then stated he had could make the decision, but he would get back to us within 10 days.  I have made over 15 phone calls, at least 6 to the corporate office in Ohio where they take my number, say someone will call me back in 24 hours and then never make a call back.  The only thing anyone says is they are sorry sorry sorry and they can only replace the product.  We are totally dissatisfied with this company, the lack of their documentation on problems, documentation of any of the issues we have the actual quality of the product that was provided and their service.  We do not want this product on our house.

On oct 24 Leaffilter put on gutter guards in the rain. When they were finished I paid them 6300.19 . The next day I went out and found that they had damaged my roof. I called and they told me that they would be out on November 1. They then sent someone out on the27th when I was not at home and was not notified they were coming. I called and was told he was only there to assess material needed. They did not show up on the first of November. I called and was told I would be contacted before the end of the business day. I was not. I was out of town and then called them back on 15 of November. I was then told I was on schedule for the 18th. Called that day to confirm appointment. They did not show or call to cancel. I then called on the 19th and told they would be out on the 21 of November. I called and was told I was on for the 22 . Again without calling me. I asked ******* if there was another number to call and she informed me that she was not allowed to give it out. She then assured me they would call and she was sending this over to her manager. I at this time do not believe they have any intent of contacting me. I am a senior citizen and feel like they sent out a incompetent worker and are trying to avoid talking to me. I just want them to fix the problem they created. This is a new roof and what they did was drive in the screws to the point that it bent my drip edge causing my shingles to lift. If they don’t want to fix it send me back money to hire someone else to do it.

I had the leaffilter system installed in 2019 with a "money back no clog guarantee and maintenance free for life" (quote from contract) guarantee at a cost of $2,900.00. Since day one, I've had trouble with the gutters on the back side of the house clogging over two roof valleys. Leaffilter over the past years has sent service people to clean out the gutters and even installed other guards to try to eliminate the problem, but nothing really worked. Even though they couldn't seem to solve the problem, I accepted the fact that they seemed to live up to their guarantee to keep the gutters clean. Now, after all these years, they say that they do not guarantee for overflow due to accumulated debris. Instead, on Nov. 10, they sent a service person out to clean the gutters and charged me $95.00. He also torn off all the other guards that were installed over the years by other leaffiler service people and then replaced them with guards with two open ends. When the rains arrived the next day, the water poured through both sides of his installation! It was much worse than when the old guards were in place. At least with the old guards, when the debris was removed, the water would flow for a few months. Furthermore, the service person left without cleaning out any other areas of the leaffiler system nor leaving me a receipt for my payment of $95.00. It seems obvious that the so-called "maintenance free" guarantee in the contract is not accurate and verges on false representation.

I am rejecting this response because: The company didn't actually respond to my specific complaint or comments. They simply sent a "canned" or computer-generated response. At no point did they directly address my complaint, nor did they indicate that they even would send me the requested receipt. If they can get away with continuing to sell a product that they say is "maintenance free" but then say that cleaning out debris on top of a gutter is not covered and a buyer will be charged, then the phrase "maintenance free" has a meaning that most people would not understand at all. To me, their so-called guarantee is pure fraud.

We had LeafFilters come out they gave us a great quote and we went a head to have the job done. We asked the salesmen if this was going around all of our gutters and he stated yes. The installer came out and installed the gutters. We noticed later that we had a whole side missing. We called LeafFilters and they said someone would call us and we have not received a call in over 5 months. We then received a call from a sales man to quote the remaining area. I am a 100% disabled veteran an feel that they should complete the job.

You can see from the pictures the installer saw there was more to cover and he just stopped and didn't even tell us there is additional area to be covered.

The inspection was completed on 12/2, and it was found that the Leaf Filter system has been installed per the agreed upon contract signed on 11/16/2021. The section of gutter on the screened enclosure was not apart of the contract. we have offered the customer a quote to have the gutter on the screened enclosure installed. We ask that once the customer decides they would like to have this section installed they contact us and will schedule a date/time that works best for them.

I am rejecting this response because:

They completely left the back of our gutter uncompleted. I saw the drawing and if the salesman made a mistake that is not our fault. I am a 100% disabled veteran and can not get on the roof. If leaffitters is ok with leaving the work uncompleted as the gutter is a who piece. There commercial clear says I would not have to clean gutters again. In the picture I would have to get someone to clean out even where we have their product.
We wan them to complete the job without having to pay extra. unless it was a scam for us to pay more in the end? Why wouldn't the installer let us know that the gutter is not completed and dirt can still get in. Obviously I would not just have a partial gutter done.

Complete the job with out us having to pay. Take care of the customer.

3/1/22: Sales rep shows product & explains how it works. Price- $8268.45. Tells me no climbing ladders to clean gutters & nothing will adhere to them, not even shingle grit. That they will clean gutters & downspouts & fix anything that needs it to install & will clean up.
3/2/22: Install was almost across the front of one story house when they stopped to tell me they had to cut the shingles back to be able to finish. They did that. They finished on 3/3/22.
Rained 6/10/22: Five areas flowed water and debris over the filters all over house, doors, windows, deck & ground. I informed the company right away.
6/14/22: Reply back they sent on to service department. Said sending tech out to look - did not show up or call I called them to complain about product, installers, and service. Rained again. New appointment 7/8/22 - no show again.
7/11/22 Tech did show up. His fix was, brush the grit & debris in the bottom of the gullies at the filter, & nail a metal diverter to my roof in two areas. Ugly. On two other areas he said the filters were full of shingle grit, cottonwood & other debris. He brushed off tiny area & told me I would have to clean the filter top regularly. He did nothing to the area on North side. When it rained everything was the same - flowing over. The diverter just moved it over a bit.
A tech showed up to take pictures of roof & filters. Date ?. By now I had taken them off. I could not keep cleaning all the mess I found dirt, shingle grit, leaves & unused screws and brackets in the gutters when I did this. Where I removed screws I had to put back after pulling out the filters from under the shingles because they left sharp jagged edges. .I read they did not disturb or cut shingles. My gutters were also damaged - scrapes and scratches and dents. Tech said I should not have had this happen, that I would get a full refund. He took the materials I removed. Too many lies and the product did not work. When I try to reach them they ignore

I am rejecting this response because:
I don't believe this has anything to do with warrenty.  This company lied and lied and lied about everything.  I did not "modify" which means make a few adjustments to the existing item.  Or "alter" which means to make different.  I simply took the filters off as they were unsatisfactory and  returned them to Leaffilters for a refund.  They did not work.  I had to do clean up after every rain shower.  I am 80 years old so no easy task.  Nobody should be able to lie like that and get away with it.

Signed contract 11/27/21. They came and installed their filters. They didnt remove old screens (as required by contract) so I had to take them to the dump. I had concerns so they sent 2 quality managers who said they would redo the house and garage. Eventually they sent an installer who said he redid the house but couldnt redo the garage because the original installer used 5 guards but we have 6 gutters. That installer said he would be back in a couple weeks. That was back in August I believe. If appears at that time he removed the screws on the guards on our garage and they landed in our driveway and we are still finding them. Im surprised we havent had a flat tire yet. I have left several voice messages but no one has returned my calls. Since we are coming up on the one year anniversary, this either needs to be completely fixed or my money needs to be refunded because, as Im sure you can imagine, Ive got serious reservations about any future service or guarantee repairs. This is for Leaf Filter at ******************************************************. ************

I am rejecting this response because:
Look at the date to check my home out. Isnt it BEFORE I submitted my compliant? That should be an indication of how badly this company operates. They cant even respond to the BBB with an accurate date to come visit and assess how poorly they have done (not completing the job on over a year now). Additionally, we were on vacation last week and when we returned home 11-27-22, we found a note that said they had been here. Been here and did what? There were no details about what, if anything they did, which appears to be typical of how they operate. Why wouldnt they call ahead and say they were coming out?  Based on my compliant, wouldnt that be the logical thing to do?  Now I have no idea what they did or didnt do or what they found and what the solution is going to be. Additionally, ***** with Leaf Filter left a message on my cell phone. I have returned that call and left a message and I fully expect to not get a response like I havent the other two times Ive left messages for *****, which is why I involved the BBB. Hopefully the BBB can alert other customers as to how poorly Leaf Filter operates  and I hope you can encourage them to finally complete my job.
