July I hired Shamrock chimney to fix chimney. The company kept cancelling & rescheduling but finally came out. The technician was ************* They said the chimney needed to be relined, a cap replaced on the top, They returned the next Saturday (late) & supposedly put in a liner & fixed the basement connection by switching to a new hole. Slathered that with concrete, wall and supposedly replaced the cap on top of the chimney which they glued to the roof & ruined the new roof job, shingles off, concrete everywhere. Not only that but it seems that they only put a top piece in liner in and skipped putting a whole liner in which is a common grift according to the chimney people that came & inspected everything. However it was nothing you could see or know as a regular person so I called them back to do my wood stove. They dodge calls & cancelled appts for two weeks until the finally showed up at 5:30pm on drugs. High, so bad that their blue eyes glowed because of the red ring around the Iris. told me they had a hard day due to van breaking down promised ok to work. called my neighbors over cause dont trust them. ******** looked at their work and stated there was no liner in the chimney. ***** gets defensive. My neighbor points out liner they are using for ********* wont last. Come to find out it was a cheap dryer tubing. Crunchable. They squished the tubes into each other. Affixed to wall. Can longer use chimney. covered with concrete so you cant tell. Big hole in back per fire chief. They were in my house till 3am. ***** left his phone. when I opened the door to give it to him he had only Boxers on. His wife was asleep in car. I ended up having to work & lift the wood stove myself 7 times (cancer patient with a heart issue) dropped his wifes phone that he used for a flashlight down chimney. Destroyed wood pile. Left trash. Wife left dirty tampon in yard. Concrete destroyed floors, tables, door yard. No cover. Wood stove doesnt work. Rain coming down chimney.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

i cant imagine having them being able to repair the damage they have done. They even concreted it in so I couldnt tell they did it until the fire chief and another company checked it out. I certainly wouldnt want druggies or guys that get naked in my front yard at 1am near my home. They can pay back what they owe me for having to have others come repair it. But their damage is done.

On October 2, 2020 Shamrock Chimney came to clean our chimneys and stated that we needed a liner installed for one of our chimneys (the one used for our boiler/oil). He was able to install same day and we proceeded with the work given the need and potential fire hazard. In 2022, smoke began coming out of our woodburning stove and I called them back and they gave me a proposal for the other chimney stating we needed a liner in that one now. I had asked why that wouldn't have proposed at the time of the last inspection and we had barely used the stove within that year so it seemed strange to me and potentially unneccessary. On February 28, 2022 we had another chimney company come out for a second opinion who confirmed we didn't need the other liner at that time but did pose that there had been some issues with prior work. The chimney they insisted needed a liner did not appear to be cleaned well and the cap was cemented onto the top of the chimney when it should be removable for cleaning purposes. This required them to replace it. On October 4, 2023 the other company came back again and in looking at our chimney/boiler noted that the chimeny liner used was too small for the boiler size. We had to have a **** company come out and adjust the BTUs on our boiler by half because the liner size is too small for the size of the boiler. We now need to rip out the old liner and have a full replacement that will cost over $5000. It also has caused our oil burning to be less effectient and a potential health hazard the past few years and cost more money in oil costs. I called Shamrock as soon as both the **** and other chimney company gave me their findings. I called multiple times with no call backs. Talked to a operations technician who was extremely rude and said they would setup a time to come look at it and never called back. After my calling 3 more times they made an appt for 10/24/23 and no call no showed even after I confirmed the **** time slot & called when no one came

DO NOT USE SHAMROCK C&C **** Chimney!!December 18, 2022 Shamrock C&C, **** out of ********* ** came out to replace the liner that connects to our furnace **** after discovering that the existing furnace **** had disintegrated (clean-out was full of debris)So the liner was replaced and they also told us we needed a new crown at the top and needed to extend it 6" with a ************** clay **** and put a new cap on top of that. which they then proceeded to do.We paid them $2750 with a check and they were done after maybe 1.5 hours of work.Fast forward to this fall (October 2023) and we go to use the woodstove on a chilly night and couldn't seem to get it started and when it finally did start - water and steam started sputtering out into the room thru the vents at the top of the woodstove insert. Turns out the top of the stove has a lip around the edge and it was full of water! **** inspecting the clean-out in the basement, we found it was wet too and had been leaking into the furnace room! Granted it has been a very wet and rainy Fall - but that should not matter. We had lived here 27 years and NEVER had a problem with even moisture, let alone water getting in.These people are supposed to be Chimney experts and professionals...they will not even call back. They did a shoddy job and now apparently will not stand behind their work. I guess they only want new customers who they can do sub-par work for...and count on no one taking them to small claims. Cannot get photos of work since we don't have a ladder tall enough to take photos.***** us for not checking the BBB site BEFORE hiring! At this point, not sure we want them back out here...I guess were out almost 3K :(

Shamrock C&C **** installed 2 chimney liners in 2 separate chimneys at my house on 9/3/21. My energy supplier performed an inspection of my furnace on 8/21/23. They discovered that one of the liners leading to the propane supply was installed correctly. The second liner in the chimney leading to the furnace could not be seen as it was left dangling in the chimney out of sight. Most importantly, it is this chimney leading to the furnace that needed the new liner to cover the build-up of creosote, etc. Photos taken at the time of the inspection on 8/21/23 clearly show the build up in the chimney with no sign of the liner.A lady at the Shamrock office said on the phone that the company would set up an appointment for an inspection, but I have never received a call and they keep giving me excuses. The owner, ***************************** (Mobile ************) who actually did the work, will not answer my texts or phone calls. They just keep putting me off. And I will need to light my furnace soon. At the moment I believe the hanging liner is creating more of a problem than it ever solved.

Poor quality job done by Shamrock C & C *** On January 23rd 2022, rainwater was leaking into my master bedroom and attic through the chimney. Two staff of Shamrock Chimney came over, determined the issues with the chimney and supposedly fixed it for $2,400 on Jan. 24th 2022 in about 3 hours. The main tasks were to repoint the top of the chimney, change of the cap, repair the flashing. In May 2023, I had again rainwater leaking into the attic. This was problematic as I had new insulation material in the attic that should not get wet. I called but no one replied and got back to me. I ended up using another company to assess and fix the problem. They determined that the step flashing in the chimney wall was not fixed correctly and the aluminium used was not of good quality.I incurred $3000 expenses to have the step flashing around the chimney redone and have the inside part of the chimney in the attic fixed.I seek a partial refund of $1,000.Thank you.

On 7/27/23 Shamrock appeared at my home for a $75 chimney cleaning. The workers ************* claimed there was a presence of creosote that was a fire hazard. The cost of a chemical removal was $650. They also claimed the chimney bricks, crown, and other items were damaged. By contract, I authorized the total cost for all work at $1500; including waterproofing & repairs. Plastic garbage bags were placed around the top of the chimney and around the bricks while the concrete dried. The workers were to return the next day. Despite, numerous phone calls, text messages, and certified letter they have not returned., (to date Aug 24). The chimney elevates 2 stories where the plastic bags remain an eyesore to the neighborhood. Splattered concrete residue is also visible. It is unknown if the work was done or in good workmanship because it is covered by the garbage bags. On rainy days, I smell creosote in the house. A Fire inspector was consulted but he was reluctant to remove the plastic bags and inspect the work because he believed any ill craftsmanship will be blamed on his inspection. He suggested the inspection occur after the work is completed or when I am ready to proceed with the litigation. Nevertheless, the fire inspector commented that the concrete work that was visible is thin and will probably crack in the winter.

On April 22nd, 2020 I had a "stainless steel 9x13 locktop damper" installed on the top of my chimney which had an electric fireplace in it. Shortly afterwards, during a rain storm, I noticed water running down the interior chimney into the electrical fireplace setup. I called Shamrock Chimney ***************) and informed them of the issue and they said that due to the high amount of rain that accompanied the rain storm water may have blown in horizontally. I was told to keep an eye on it throughout the next few rain storms and to call back if the problem occurs again. I monitored the fireplace throughout the next few months and saw that every time it rained water would run down the interior of my chimney. I called Shamrock Chimney to inform them that the problem still ongoing and was told to email their service department at ********************************* After making numerous calls and sending numerous emails, the problem has yet to be resolved.

I have sent emails, as well as making numerous calls requesting service, and have yet to hear back regarding my complaint. Here is my original email from 12/26/2022:

"Good evening. On April 22nd, 2020 I had a "stainless steel 9x13 locktop damper" installed on the top of my chimney. Last year I during a rain storm I noticed that water was leaking down the interior of the chimney and was puddling around my electric fireplace. I contacted your company and was told to keep an eye out out on the problem during future rain storms due to the possibility of that current leak being caused by much of the rain being wind driven. I have checked this location during the storms I have been home for this past year and saw that the problem with the leaking has been reoccurring. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you soon."

I am more than happy to have someone contact me to resolve this issue as that is the only problem I have had with the service that was provided. Thank you for your time.

We hired Shamrock Chimney on Saturday, December 3, 2022 to repoint and fix our leaking chimney. Work was to start on the following Monday but was delayed to Tuesday. On Tuesday work started at 10:27am. Lunch started at 12:27pm and lasted until 3:42pm. Then they worked until 9:16pm, using my husband's lights. Before leaving they covered the chimney with my husband's tarp (consequently ruining it). They were to return on Thursday. They called at 1:00 saying they were 1/2 hour out, but didn't arrive until 2:50. Left again at 3:39. We were not happy with the work so they agreed to return on Thursday, December 15, after accusing us of ;not liking the work bc we didn't like the young man in charge. That couldn't be further from the truth. We DID like him at first, that's why he got the job. They arrived at 8:45, did a minimal water test, found water leaking near the top so then went to purchase cement. Shouldn't they have appropriate materials on hand? Anyway, we had to leave for a family emergency and were gone for two days. upon inspecting the work we found mortar on the roof, siding, and windows. The cement was not the same color as original. They used black tar in areas to seal gaps with no regard to aesthetics. They said they were waterproofing the chimney and that did not prove to be true. There is still an area at the top of the chimney that needs sealing. And now there is condensation near the inside top of the chimney which drips down into the house bc they put some sort of cover on the top of the chimney. We have called numerous times to get them to come back and fix the issues, but never receive a callback. They were paid $5000 in cash.

In early September 2022 (my receipt is dated September 9 but the workmen were here 2 days to complete the work). I have 2 chimneys - one that is exhaust for the water heater and another to vent two fireplaces. I needed dampers put on the two fireplace flues on one chimney and a liner put in the other. I needed repointing on the fireplace chimney as well. In December I started using one of the fireplaces - infrequently maybe once a week. Almost 4 weeks ago, when using the fireplace - so that one damper they installed was open - I heard a loud noise and when I went to close the damper the damper chain was gone - the damper had flown off the chimney taking the chain with it and landed in my driveway. I called the next day. Suffice it to say I have evidence of many unreturned phone calls - 2 weeks ago I was told sometime would be her on a Tuesday - when no one showed up all day and it was getting dark, I called to see what was going on. I left a message because as was the case 90% of the times I called, no one answered. Spent the next two weeks calling to get them out here to fix the damper assembly (living in the meantime with the equivalent of an open window in my house including during the arctic front days last week) - calling and calling leaving message after message without getting a call back. Finally, this past Monday morning finally got the receptionist (?) on the phone and she said shed get someone out here Thursday (today) but it wouldnt be until afternoon. I waited all day- called 5 different times starting around 2:30 to get an estimate of when to expect them (leaving a message to that effect each time) - no one ever answered or called me back or showed up. Its been nearly a month that Ive had a gaping hole from my house because there is no way to close the flue. I spent over $5000 for the work that they did shoddily and I want to have it fixed by someone else and I need the other work inspected for ******************* havent used the other flue yet.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business - TWO YEARS after the complaint was made - in reference to complaint ID# ********* They did finally, after about a month, come and fix the damper that had flown off after hardly any use. However, this late response is unacceptable - they were horrible when I called to complain to the "manager" - not apologetic at all and telling ME to go ahead and file a complaint -- that it didn't affect them - that it was up to them to do anything about it. My complaint has NOT been resolved because I went through the coldest month of the year in Massachusetts with an open to the sky chimney before they got back. Heating costs in Massachusetts are ridiculous and I am sure my heat was cranking away only to go out that chimney. I had asked for a refund or at least partial refund of my $5,000 ... received nothing and not even a communication until now.

I know they will not refund any money -- they couldn't even be bothered to answer THIS complaint (from February 2023) for TWO YEARS. I submitted this complaint to BBB more as a warning to others NOT to use them more than anything else.

In order for the BBB to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.
