The GRE misleads you by asking you if you want to send scores to colleges. Then, they cancel your scores, so you can't see them without paying $50. Even after paying the $50, you now have to wait ***** days for them to come in the mail. There is no logical reason to cancel your scores without seeing them. The question is intentionally misleading, so people cancel and are forced to pay $50. If you can't customer ********************** they tell you that there's nothing they can do unless you pay their $50 fee. To add insult to injury, you know have to wait ***** days instead of seeing your scores immediately which would have been the case if you weren't misled into canceling the scores in the first place.Business Response

Dear *********************************,
ETS was notified by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) that you submitted a complaint regarding the GRE General Test that you had scheduled for November 18, 2022.
At the end of the computer-delivered GRE General Test, candidates are given the option to report or cancel their test scores. If they select to report their scores, they will then see unofficial scores for the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections of their examination. Following that, they are given the opportunity to enter in up to 4 designated score recipients. The first opportunity to add score recipients is given after candidates select to select to report or cancel their scores and after they see unofficial scores. This is done so test takers can have their scores reported to themselves and see their unofficial scores without having to be worried that they will be then forced to send them to any institutions.
When you are given the options to opt to either report or cancel your scores, you must make a selection and then confirm that selection a second time. If you select to cancel your scores, a screen appears stating that "You have chosen to CANCEL your GRE General Test scores from this testing session. Your scores from all sections of this test will not become part of your reportable history". It also states that "This is your last chance to change your mind. Once cancelled, scores can only be reinstated by sending a written request and associated fees to the GRE Program within 60 days of your test date". Our records indicate that you selected to cancel your scores, and then also confirmed that you wanted your scores cancelled when the screen came up with the statement mentioned above.
Information regarding canceling and reinstating test scores is listed on our website and in the GRE Information Bulletin for candidates to review prior to testing.
Because you opted and confirmed that you wanted to cancel your test scores, the only way to reinstate them would be to make a score reinstatement and pay the applicable reinstatement fee of US $50.00, which you did on November 18, 2022. We regret that we are unable to comply with your request to refund the applicable score reinstatement fees.
Thank you for granting us the opportunity to provide clarification regarding your complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We wish you continued success in your educational endeavors.

I am rejecting this response because:As expected, ETS is lying. After finishing the GRE, the very first screen shown to test takers is used to select colleges and universities to which you want to send your scores. The only way out of this screen is to "Cancel" your scores. After doing so, there will be a confirmation screen, but the verbiage is confusing and does not clearly explain that you will not be able to see your scores without paying a $50 fee or that it will take ***** days.
Let's think about this another way. There is no reason anyone would cancel their exam without seeing their scores. Scores are helpful feedback, and people may preform better than they expect. Furthermore, as stated in test preparation materials and on ETS' own website, you can select which scores you choose to send, so if you're unhappy with your score, no colleges and universities need to know about it. Any common sense approach would show test takers their unofficial score BEFORE asking them if they want to send them to universities and similarly ask them if they want to send their scores to universities BEFORE asking them to select those universities.
I'm sure fees are a huge portion of ETS revenue because their services are intentionally designed in a way that incurs fees (50% for canceling an exam date, $50 to get your scores, $50 to reschedule an exam date) and refuses refunds even regardless the legitimate reasons people may have for rescheduling or missing an exam. It's funny that ETS thinks a $50 refund would satisfy me enough to remove my complaint. I would need to be refunded at least $10,000 just to consider such a thing, and I'm glad my complaint will remain as unresolved on the BBB website to further highlight the slimey and manipulative business practices ETS has gotten away with for far too long because of their monopoly on the GRE test. Thankfully, many universities have realized that ETS is trash and are no longer requiring or even encouraging the exam for admission.

We at ETS are highly committed to quality standards and fairness. After every test administration, we go to great lengths to ensure each test result we report is accurate and valid. All scores are placed on hold for the duration of the Review. Most of these routine reviews are completed in about four weeks however, in rare cases, the review can take longer.
For the reasons stated above, your November 6, 2022 GRE General Test scores are on hold because they are under administrative review. At the conclusion of our review, you will be notified if there are questions concerning your scores. Otherwise your scores will be reported to you and to institutions you have designated to receive reports.

October 9th 2022 *********** took over 30 minutes to get me signed in I waited online with them for 45 minutes. I told them they was taking too long and I wanted to reschedule my test because they were taking a very long time. They refuse to reschedule my test although they were the ones who did not have their stuff together! They never refunded my money or tried to reschedule it they did not even acknowledge the fact that they started my test 45 minutes later than the time I was supposed to log on. They definitely owe me my money back they owe an apology they need to change their rules and I need to be compensated way more than just my money.*********** is biased and they act with prejudice because if I was 45 minutes late or a half hour late I would not have gotten to take my test so I don't see why this company think that they can be late on my test but I still have to pay and I couldn't get it rescheduled that's bull c***Business Response

On October 14th 2022, I paid $300.30 to take a TOEFL iBT at home edition to ETS. On October 24th 2022, I sat the test and completed it successfully. As advertised by ETS and stated on their website, I was eligible to receive the test scores with 4 to 8 days.On the date of this complaint, it has been 25 days and I have yet to get a straight answer from ETS let alone the results of my test. My university enrolment required the results on the 15th of November, which is 22 days from the date of testing. As per the timeline stated by ETS, I made sure to take the test before the required date however due to this delay, I have missed my opportunity to finalise my enrolment. My university of choice has kindly provided a 2 week extension however given that I have received no explanation or communications for the delay, I am worried that I will miss my chance to enrol. ****** from an email stating that my results are delayed, there has been no effort from ETS to explain or remedy the situation. I have been given no specific reasons on why I havent received my results or any opportunity to state my case. Ive called them via phone 5 times and each time I waited over an hour on hold but was provided no clarity by the representative and was just told to wait.Id like to make this complaint to the BBB that the service provider, ETS, did not fulfil their business obligations as advertised after paying $300 for their services. Id like to request the BBB to help me contact ETS and request them to finish the job as promised. My name is ***********************, my ETS ID is ******** and my test appointment number is ****************.Business Response
