1 starI have been attempting to resolve our issue with our rental since Dec 28, 2022. I have tried to email you with a PDF of receipts and cost of our trip but it comes back with an error message because you are unable to receive attachments and your "create a ticket" is down We ended up with a flat tire but was unable to change it due to no tools in the vehicle. We contacted roadside assistance multiple times as we were stranded on a freeway in the middle of the night. We initially were told help was on the way but after waiting hours we found out that it was not. For the safety of all occupants, we abandoned the vehicle and proceeded to find a safe place where we could get heat, sleep and food and most importantly safety. AVIS mission and values: "We will ensure a stress-free car rental experience by providing superior services that cater to our customers' individual needs...always conveying the 'We Try Harder®' spirit with knowledge, caring and a passion for excellence." Integrity: We will honor all commitments to our customers, employees and shareholders. We will communicate openly and frequently, sharing what we know, when we know it. We have received anything but a stress-free car rental experience, with nearly zero service. Every individual we speak with seems to pass the buck to the next guy. The vehicle we rented was inadequate, lacking the proper equipment to help in a situation like a flat tire. Very common I would assume. There was no way for us to take the tire off and replace it with the spare. We received zero communication from AVIS roadside assistance to let us know that help was in fact, not on the way. Contrary to what we were told. We ask that the expenses incurred because of the flat tire be reimbursed. When talking to customer service they offered us $100 reimbursement even though we paid $755.51. They continue to pass us off to Road Side assistance and Roadside Assistance passes us off to Customer Service. They have been zero help.Avis Rent A Car

We have reviewed our records and show that the rental was deeply discounted at the time of return to $207.45 and than our Customer Service Team issues an additional refund of $100.00 bringing your total rental charges down to $107.45. As the vehicle was used to drive more than 700 miles we do feel the credits that have been issued are fair and reasaonble.

1 starFirst time Avis customer, and I did not have a good experience with Avis at all. I rented a car from them at the Punta Gorda airport location late at night, planning to drive to Naples. Unbeknownst to me, I was given a car with a slow tire leak (shredded tire actually), on the driver's side. I put air in it several times. I called Avis, and they told me to exchange it at the Naples location. When I went there I was chastised, I mean extremely rudely, by the agent about how I did not fill the tank when it was not even drivable!! I used very little gas. I was to be charged to fill the tank. I was then given a car with a broken air conditioner. In Florida. When I got to my location 5 miles away, I called to inform them of the broken air, hoping they would send someone to exchange the car, or at the very least take a little money off of my bill. They offered me a two day free rental at a future time, with restrictions. When I dropped the car off back at Punta Gorda, there was no agent at the Avis counter, so I gave the keys to another company and told them the air did not work. I am not sure if I will use the voucher because I do not think they service, or even check the cars when they come in. I have a very limited budget, and I feel as though I was taken advantage of.Avis Rent A Car

1 starI made a reservation for the Heathrow location in London. When I arrived at the location to pick the car up, the agent notified me that I will need to provide "additional docs" since the car is "premium class." As someone who's traveling in a foreign country, I am not carrying all my docs with me. However, I had a driver's license, a credit card with a high available limit, and my passport. Apparently, everything I had wasn't sufficient. Not to mention, I have a membership with Avis and all my information have previously been entered and verified prior to making this reservation. The lady at the front desk, who was extremely rude and disrespectful, offered to lower the car class so I don't have to provide additional docs. I asked what's going to happen to the difference in price, she said that since this was prepaid, no refunds will be offered. Which sounded so ridiculous. I tried to ask her for other options, and explained to her that it makes no sense since I paid for a higher class, she absolutely didn't care, and when I asked for a manager to look into this, she said that nobody can help and this is all they can offer, otherwise I can go and look for another company. I then called the Avis US customer service since the UK one wasn't working (outside of Business Hours) before agreeing to the only solution she provided, and the customer service agent apologized for the inconvenience, opened a case and noted everything on it, then assured me a refund will be processed once the rental is complete as he said "we will take care of it on our end from the US." I completed the rental as advised, then sent an email to Avis customer service to share my feedback and requested what I was promised. After over 40 days of waiting and multiple follow ups, they responded that they "reviewed" the reservation agreement and didn't find any issues. Also advised me that if I have any problems with their response to reach out to the location directly. Basically, not their problem.Review fromTerrence G

1 starBooked a one-way rental with Avis which was confirmed. I then drove 50 miles to their Lawrence, KS location. Although they had cars in their they refused to honor my reservation and would not rent me a car. Avis then charged my cc $50 for a "no-show". 1 starThe staff at San Diego location intentionally misinformed me on the additional insurance coverage and provided no invoice printout or details of the coverage. All he asked if I want to go with enhanced package, and I said I want minimum, not knowing I should've said I wanted to opt out completely. Unfortunately I signed the contract over the small touch screen, and ended up being up-charged for $279 more. Avis encourages these upselling tactics since for infrequent car renters, it was easy to trick the customers. Customer service is not helpful since this is how they conduct business.Avis Rent A Car

It took several efforts to make the complaints across social media (and also here) to finally resolve the issue. The customer service didn't help, and only after I complained on social media, actions were taken. Although it is resolved at the end (partially discounted), the overall experience was frustrating. If customers don't file complaints, the staff probably will continue to upsell without providing sufficient details on the rental contracts.Review fromKimberly F

1 starRented a car 12/1 - 12/4 to attend my granddaughters funeral. Picked the car up in Detroit late at night on 12/1. Drove it to Ohio, parked it in the garage. When out in the morning with my 4 year old grandson to go for breakfast. The car would not start. I made my first call to Avis at 10:10 am on 12/2 for roadside service. After waiting 2 hours for service, I took a Taxi 8 blocks to an Avis location in Findlay OH, to get help. The 2 ladies said I need to wait for roadside service. I told them could I rent a second car. I had things to do for the funeral. They said NO, I had to return the first car before I could rent a second car. I said I would pay double. No, they said, company policy. I told them I could not push the car blocks to return it, to them. Here I was a 65 year old with a 4-year-old, in 20 degree weather and they did not want to help. Had to call a Taxi to return home. Made calls to Avis on 12/2: 10:10, 12:37, 12:57, 2:26, 2:45, 3:32, 3:38, 3:43, 4:13...no service. I waited until 7:30 pm and borrowed my son-in-law car. He then purchased a Trickler to charge the rental car battery. Then next morning, 12/3, Avis called to see if the car was running, however I was in the shower, missed the call. They called back about 30 minutes later, they said they could send someone out to look at the car in the next few hours, I let them know I was heading to a funeral and service and would be back at 1:00 pm. And they could call me and send someone out. They never got back with me. 12/4 at 3 am I went out to the garage and thank God the car finally started and was able to head to the airport. Avis should compensated me for a car that was not running. I have been an Avis Preferred customer for over 30 years. I don't know how a company that treats a customer the way I was treated, could stay in business.Avis Rent A Car

1 starOne of my worst experiences with a car rental company. My wife had paid for the rental in advance so all we had to do is pick up the vehicle at the San Antonio airport. When go to pick it up the staff tells us we have to tent the vehicle up to the day we leave even though we didn't need to, so we get charged for an extra 2 days. Then we are told we need a credit card to complete the process, even though we already had paid with a debit card, if we want drop off the vehicle early. Finally, they tell us we were declined due to my wife not passing * soft credit check. What?! Have never seen this. So we had to walk away without a vehicle we already paid for and needed for a 4 hour drive at 1am. Then we find out we were charged full price twice and have to wait 5 business days for close to $2000 Avis charged us. Horrendous. We were able to get a rental in 5 min. From Enterprise that was luckily still open 3 stalls down from Avis. And we will seek legal action if our money is not returned.Avis Rent A Car

1 starMy experience with Avis has been a nightmare. I reserved a car online for a trip abroad. When I picked up the car and signed the contract at the rental office, in Geneva, I made clear that I did not want CDW, as my credit card provides it. My rental was for 60 days, which was broken up into two 30 day contracts. The contract that we (my husband signed) for the first 30 days made no reference to CDW insurance and quoted the price that I was expecting to pay. The second contract was meant to be identical was going to take effect after the first 30 days. To my surprise when I returned home, I found that the charge for the second contract was over $600 more than the first contract. I immediately reached out to Avis to dispute the additional charges. First they claimed it was because I opted for CDW insurance (but, again, no mention of it in the contract I signed). Then they claimed I went over the mileage limit. Wrong, again--my husband took pictures of the mileage at the beginning and at the end of our trip, and we used only about half of what we we could have. Over FOUR + months, I've sent numerous emails, called and talked to several, useless customer representatives, and wasted hours of my time. Each time I have received incomplete or contradictory information, with a condescending attituded that I did something wrong. When I tried to elevate the issue to a manager, I was told that there was nothing more that could be done to help me. Finally I was told by a customer representative to not waste my type trying to resolve the issue through Avis, but rather just dispute it via my bank (the most helpful advise I can say I was given, which I took). I have never dealt with a company with such poor accountability, and I will never use or recommend anyone use its services.Avis Rent A Car

1 starIf I can give them a negative, I would. I've never seen a more dishonest & scammy company. I had booked a month long rental for a little over $1000. When I got to my destination, the Avis rental outlet let me know there was only 1 car available. Mind you there were several others behind me and they knowingly overbooked that location so they could do what they did to me. He was going to give me the 1 car they had left, but his card reader could not read the chip on my card. So he sent me down to the airport location because they have a chip reader. I took an Uber to the airport. I went to the counter, let them know my situation, and the counter person ran my card and asked me to sign. I noticed that the contract said $2000+ and I asked her about it, and she told me it was the deposit and it will be returned to me once the car is returned. When I returned it, the charge stayed on my card and when I went to dispute it through Avis, they never returned any of my messages.Avis Rent A Car
