WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! We rented a car that overwhelmingly smelled like smoke, the dashboard was cracked, there were many scratches and dents, which we could have lived with if it wasn't for the smell! We called to complain, and their solution was for us to return it for a smaller call at more money! Then, to top it off, we were charged MORE money than what our agreement said and instead of getting an apology and refunding us the difference, we have to send copies of our agreement to them (which they should already have!) and go back and forth with them to get this resolved. We will NEVER use this rental company again and will make sure no one we know uses them!

I had been Avis preferred plus member for years and was very satisfied with the service. I was shocked this time. I was not able to reserve a car through Avis App as I usually do. I had to call customer service multiple times. Every one promised to report to their supervisor to get the issue solved but I have never got one response. Today I was on the phone with the customer representatives for almost an hour, finally I was able to make the reservation. But when I got the email confirmation, I saw discrepancies and was shocked. I cancelled the reservation right away, 15 min within I made the reservation. I then got the cancellation email, saying I will be charged $50 cancellation fee. Excuse me? As the preferred plus member, I had never been charged cancellation fee. Also why I didn’t get a message when I cancelled it. I called customer service again, was told if you cancelled within certain window, sometimes they charge you, sometimes they don’t. Such a great explanation.

My wife rented a car Sunday so she could check into her base. It was stolen Monday. Avis won't refund the money and expects us to pay for the damages that will probably be on the rental when/if it's found. This is how Avis treats this Country's Service Members. We are in the middle of PCS and expenses are strained as it is.

Avis gave me a car with low air in the tires when I realized it in my driveway, I turned back and had them fill it after the employee at the counter tried to tell me it was just a sensor. The light turned off after he put air in the tires but 2 hours later the drivers side rear tire was completely flat. I called road side assistance and asked to have the tire changed and wave the fee since it's not my fault and they said I'd have to wait until they opened again to garantee id get my money back for it. The Avis in town was closed at this point so I had to call out of work the following day and asked a buddy to get me a bottle of fix a flat so I could exchange it. I then called them back and they said they'd refund it only for me to get there and be told only the manager can give me back my money for the wasted day. I will never use them over hertz or enterprise again.

The rental agent at the Atlanta Airport location misled me into accepting the extra rental options by telling me that they were covered under my USAA corporate discount code. My rental went from $318 to over $650 for a one day rental. This will be my last time using Avis. I am very disappointed and highly upset in the corrupt business practices of Avis. It seems that by any means necessary Avis is on a mission to recoup losses from the pandemic.

Avis charged me to replace a windshield for for a tiny star chip in the front windshield. It was not a full crack. The roads in Canada are a mess.....why am I responsible for gravel on their roads? Will never use Avis again!

I needed a car to get to Akron, OH. We had rented a car in Hawaii through AVIS and had an amazing experience. We kept that in mind when we were looking at our options for a one night rental. We were picked it up on Friday and dropped it off on Saturday. When I picked the car up, I noticed the seats were down but didn't think anything of it because I was just putting my luggage in the back and driving straight through. We did exactly that. We got to Akron and when I pulled into the airport rental car return area, I got out and there was a young gentleman walking towards me. He asked me if I my car was a return. I told him I was. He said, and I quote "It makes me want to snap my neck when I people don't follow the return signs and pull up here." I was shocked and told him I did follow the signs. He said I didn't. I asked him why he was being so mean to me and he said, it' s not you, I'm just a grinch, just give me your keys." I told him absolutely not! The reflective bib he had didn't have a name on it and he had no identification indicating he worked for AVIS. I asked for his name and he refused to give it to me. I got back into the car and drove it to another rental area and started going into the building to return my keys. I saw two other cars pulling up where I just was for AVIS and I walked over to them. I asked if they were returning the car and told them what I was just told. They both said they followed the return signs. Now I was fuming because this was supposed to be an easy drop off. I went in and complained to the woman and she was adamant that it would be taken care of. I had fully intended on calling and asking for my rental fee back because of my experience and then I received a letter stating I had to pay $450 for pet hair. I was like WHAT?!!!!!!! I don't even have a pet!!!!! I called and spoke to an agent who confirmed I would not be charged and I just received a letter stating I will be charged. I do not want to see a charge and I want my money back

I learned the hard way make sure you read the contract. The employee stuck in an insurance contract without telling me or asking if I wanted it. It cost me an extra four hundred dollars more than it should have. I will never use Avis again.

      Terrible experience with Avis!
As a longtime customer I was appalled today by Avis’ anti-consumer behavior (July 16). I had a rental for the day from Newark Airport in Jersey and was on my way back to the airport when my flight got delayed. I pulled over and checked options online to modify my reservation to drive direct to Washington DC where I live, knowing full well a serious penalty would come my way for switching the destination last minute. I got that. My first address for a DC return would have added $1700 to the bill. Wow. I thought that was ridiculous but within Avis’ right to impose such a charge given the transfer burden for Avis. But on a lark I typed in a different return address to see if costs were more manageable — Reagan National Airport, where I happened to have a flight to DFW the following day. The extra charge was more reasonable — a few hundred bucks. So I decided to do it. The online system wouldn’t let me complete the modification though — it said I had to complete the agreement with an agent. So I called Avis customer service and when I asked to confirm quotes the agent said he couldn’t share that with me until I executed the contract — without knowing the price. What the heck? And that held for any DC return location. Huh? I can’t know the price of any adjustment until I agree to the adjustment? That is so anti-consumer. That’s like wanting to buy a car or a new couch and being told by the dealer or the sales clerk that I can’t know the price until I agree to pay for it. What? And the US Government is going after Ticketmaster for not disclosing its hidden fees? At least Ticketmaster gives you the total price before you check out — not Avis! Mystery meat for Avis’ customers! The USG should start much earlier in the alphabet and come after Avis for its opaque, anti-transparent customer duplicity. Shame on Avis.
