Just returned a car to Avis at the Fresno airport and received an email that I am being charged $300 over the quote I was given. If you have to use Avis be sure and check your bill.

The owner/ manager Deion at Avis (**** ******** St, Savannah,ga)
Is intentionally & knowingly overcharging / double charging customers (Uber drivers)
I was told by him if my rental is due to return at 9am I should return the car the night before if I don’t want to be double charged.
He is operating the business in a very shady way. Knowingly double charging customers and having us dispute with the company over the phone is a hassle we didn’t ask for. Deion & Ms.V Stop taking advantage of your customers by creating rental agreements they we haven’t agreed to!!!

I’ve been renting cars from Avis for the past 15 years. Just when I thought their customer service couldn't get any worse, well today it did. I was on the phone with a manager name Alex ***** from customer service who was extremely rude to me because I had an existing reservation at the airport and I wanted to pick up the car a couple of hours earlier when I asked to cancel my reservation, he tried to charge $150.cancellation fee. I rent two to three cars a week from Avis and I can never redeem my points towards rental because most of the time the only have option they give you is towards accessories and roadside assistance. If I can help it I will try my best not to ever rent from them again and I highly encourage anyone who is reading this review not to rent from Avis either.

My family of 5, (youngest was 5yrs old) rented a mini van to travel out to Fairplay, Colorado. 2 hours west of Denver. July 31st at 9:30am the front right tire blew out in Como. At this point I figured we had three options. 1) fix the tire ourselves 2) Call Avis and they would send out a spare tire. 3) Call Avis and they would send out a tow and replacement vehicle. You can imagine my surprise when I opened the compartment for the spare and found a bottle of foam and a compressor. No Jack, no lug wrench, no spare. Option 1 gone. I called Avis for roadside support. Apparently option 2 and 3 were also not an option, no real reason why. Who knew there was 4th option that they would decide was best. Option 4 was they would come tow the vehicle and leave my family in the middle of nowhere to figure out how to get back to Denver. To be fair I was given the option to go back to Denver, pick up a replacement vehicle, come back to Fairplay to pick up my Family and drive them back to Denver to catch our flight. So they called a tow company from Denver to come get the van and tow it back. However, they would not authorize that same tow company to bring a vehicle. The tow company arrived at 2:00. Imagine my despair when I saw an empty flat bed approach down the road to get a van with no replacement vehicle. After several attempts to rely on Avis to get my family back to Denver. One of which included using several Ubers staggered at 50 mile intervals, because that’s all they could authorize. So we found two drivers who agreed to drive us to Frisco to catch a shuttle. On the way I called Avis to be told I had to personally arrive at the rental agency to return a car that had been towed there 6 hours earlier. I arrived at Avis 12 hours after the incident. What should have been a 10 minute fix a flat, turned into a 12 hour vacation detour for my entire family. The value that Avis placed on getting their vehicle back over their customer should not be overlooked.

I had a family emergency and needed to rent a vehicle asap. I went to Avis on Roper Road in Edmonton and was treated so well. Daisy and May we’re so kind and helpful. The car was brand new and spotless! Amazing customer service and such a good experience! Will definitely rent from them again!

I rented a car from Avis at Chicago airport. First they double charged me for my rental. After hours in the phone and pleading my case with multiple departments and people, they finally adjusted to the correct charges. Then, 3 months after the rental was done, signed off, turned in…. They charged my card for “damages” that I did not do to the car. I will never rent from Avis again. They used to be a reputable company, but now just scammers.

after doing more research- we shouldn’t have rented from Avis but lesson learned the hard way!
Traveling from Columbus to Florida and back. On the return trip we had somewhat of a blowout- the entire piece of tread on the rear driver side tire flew off. And I mean THE WHOLE PIECE! How the air partially stayed in, was God being on our side ! Had that happened in combo with losing the tread at the same time we would have flipped bc of the speed when the tread came off. We call Avis’ “emergency roadside assistance” line to be told that essentially since were on the side of the road, they can’t send “help” until we’re somewhere with an address…so that was problematic as we needed to get back on the highway, move through 4 lanes of MOVING traffic on a tire with ZERO tread, that’s losing air with 3 kids under 11 and my mother in law in the car ….seems safe. So after getting to a location that they could “send help” we waited 3 hours for the tow truck and an Uber to show up.
Looks like the tire on our rental may have been retreaded. Which on short distances could be an option but I don’t feel it’s the safest for rental car companies to use “used” tires on vehicles that could be traveling well over 1,000+ miles weekly. As much as we pay per day- you can afford some new tires. The tread on 2/4 tires is pretty much gone…. After looking at many reviews, I found a lot just like ours. One from just 2 days ago. While we are all okay, we will never ever use this company or ANY of its affiliates again. Nor will I use them for my company travel. Their maintenance is extremely poor and it’s looking like they are on a verge of some safety issues in most of their fleet. their customer service was not seeing the urgency in the situation..OH and the oil was at 0%, and no spare in the car. Will be sending this same review to the AGs office of Ohio consumer protection office and I urge everyone with these same safety issues to report them!

SLOWEST. RENTAL. EVER. Maybe it's just the Calgary Airport location, but holy CRAP, they were slow!!!!! They had exactly two counters open and about 500 people in line, no joke. It was a Saturday in July (the 22nd). My friend and I had pre-reserved a car that was already paid for and expected it to be a simple enough process. The building was packed to the gills and we waited for two hours just to get to the counter. Then, instead of just being given a car, we were told to go and wait somewhere (in space that didn't exist) and they would call us, verbally, when the car was ready. That took an additional 30 min. I have never experienced not just being taken to the car directly from the counter before! Returning it was just as bad - we couldn't even park; we were told to get out, stopping right at the bumper of the car in front of us, despite its driver needing to get his luggage out of the trunk, and hang about in moving traffic in the parking garage until they'd checked whatever they needed to check. Somehow they confused themselves with multiple people talking to us and found that we'd driven 4500 km LESS than what we left with, which obviously means that someone screwed something up when we got the car. Outstandingly, unbelievably bad service!!!

I reserved a car through Avis to be picked up and confirmed online the day before I was scheduled to pick it up. When I arrived, they had no cars. So, I went to the airport via Uber. On the way, I called Avis' 800 number who said that they had no cars at the airport, but there were cars 8 miles from the airport. I took a Lyft to the new location and couldn't find the entrance. I called the local number on the reservation, but it went to corporate who couldn't help. Then I learned that the Avis location closed while we were circling the block. Back on the phone with Avis who sent me 6 miles away. When I arrived, the onsite Avis staff said that they also didn't have any cars even with the special number provided by Avis. After losing 3 hours and paid for 3 Uber/Lyft rides, I took another Lyft to get to my original destination that was only 3 miles from the first Avis location. I called Avis multiple more times that day that included more than an hour on hold, telling the story and being disconnected before being offered a new reservation further away that cost more than the original reservation for less time! I also learned that even though I was calling customer service, reservation answered. In the morning, I tried calling again and immediately asked for customer service. I also asked for a direct number to call back when we were disconnected. They wouldn't give one to me. After more than an hour of being on hold, sharing the story, getting disconnected repeat, I gave up. The only way to contact Avis online is by creating an account, so I went to twitter asking them to call me. I gave them several hours with no response. I canceled my reservation and found another company. A couple of days later, I received an email charging me a "no show fee." I called again, and they say it will be refunded, but I need to connect with customer service to confirm. 1/2 a day lost and several hundred dollars later, things are still not resolved. Horrible!
