      Would do zero stars if I could. Avoid using Avis for your rental company. We rented a 12 passenger van months before our family trip. A trip that was to be spent relaxing and non stress as a family. Before my husbands bone marrow transplant. Day before we were to pick up van we got a phone call from the jetport site in Portland Maine. Girl stated she was confirming we were still picking up van the following day because they had too many rentals for a van and not enough vans. I stated of course why wouldn't I, its been booked. She then stated some people will not get a van but 2 suvs. I stated it was not acceptable . We rented a van to be together for a reason on this trip , my husband is ill. We are traveling to Tenn. and want to be all together that is a why a van is rented. She kept telling me we will see what we can do. She is just calling to confirm. I asked to talk to a manager , he finally came on with an attitude. Said he heard her whole conversation she never said anything about suvs. Liar! So the following day my husband went to get van. Awful experience my husband said. Woman at counter had a major attitude problem. Yah we had a van, a junk. Smelled bad. Tires were all extremely low in air, and the steering pulled badly to the right. Had to hold steering wheel with 2 hands tightly while driving. They definitely did not check van out before renting it. My husband after arriving home figured we would try to find another Avis site with a van on trip to switch . No luck no one had any. We did a 2 week trip with a unsafe van!

      We forecast vehicle availability based on how vehicles are scheduled to return. There are several circumstances that could cause inventory issues such as vehicles being extended, not returned on time or as agreed, returned to a different location, or breakdowns. We do our best to accommodate every rental but sometimes if vehicles aren't returned when they are scheduled, it causes us to be short on vehicles. 



      We are fully aware that providing good service is a major factor in separating us from the competition. To learn that we have failed to provide you with the level of service you would expect from us was perhaps as disappointing for us as it was for you. We take this commitment to our customers very seriously and a copy of your comments has been forwarded to the responsible department for review and correction.



      Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.

      My rental hadn't even been cleaned. There was three Starbucks cups half full in back when I picked up the vehicle. Which was supposed to be a mis size. Instead they put me in a huge blacked out Suburban with CO plates. I never wanted a gas guzzling ghetto cruiser. I feel it made me a target and the drivers side passenger window was smashed out and my backpack with all of my keys and person paperwork, laptop, 9mm and some of my mom's ashes in a cross. Which was the meaning of the trip. To bury my mom's ashes. The KC PD didn't take pictures or prints. I just made a quick stop on the way to the airport. I returned the glass filled cruiser to MCI airport. Telling them what happened and how I was set up.
      I received an email saying 'sorry for my experience.'

      While you did not accept damage coverage for this rental, we do confirm that our Customer Service team applied a courtesy refund of $328.95 for the glass damages that were incurred on October 24th. 



      Regarding your stolen items, as we regretfully do not hold liability for lost, damaged, or stolen items, nor was coverage accepted for personal affects, we do advise contacting your insurance provider to determine if you are covered for this loss.



      Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.

      Avis is the worst rental car company available. One agent- over 20 people in line- agent representative was spending at least 15 minutes with each person- you do the math. Do Not Rent from Avis!!!

      Had a reservation for this location on 9/29/23 at 8 am arrived at 8:10 there was a girl right in front of me who had a reservation at 10am We were told that they didn’t have any cars available and one was on the way in. Once that car got there the lady who was extremely rude to all of the other guest told me that because she saw the other person face first she would get the rental reguardless of if I had a reservation for 8 or not I sat there until 930 and she gave the car to the person for 10.

      ******* Airport!!!!! NEVER AGAIN 1. Told me the car I prepaid for was not available. Tried to get me to take a mini bus, I refused and was told the only other car available was an SUV, but I would not be charged extra. 2. I got on the highway and saw the gas tank was only 3/4 full. It was midnight and I was tired so I called Avis the next morning. When I looked at the contract to get the phone number I saw that I had been charged for roadside assistance even though I told the Avis counter person that I didn’t want it. When I called Avis about the gas I also asked to have the charge for roadside assistance removed and asked if I could get a smaller car at a Virginia Beach Avis location. I was told that I would receive a $40 credit for the gas and the charges for roadside assistance would all be removed. I was told to go to the Avis location in Virginia Beach to get a smaller car. I spent an hour driving/waiting in line to both Virginia Beach locations and they both said they had no small cars. 3. I filled the tank with gas before returning it but was charged $24 for gas by Avis, was charged for roadside assistance, charged for “upgrade” to larger car. 4. The car was so filthy when I got it, I couldn’t see out the windows. I will never do business with this company again. After speaking with 3 different Avis people after getting the final bill, I am expecting a $200 credit for all of the bogus charges. Fingers crossed. This is a crazy way for such a big company to do business.

      I forgot to put gas into the medium sized car I rented before returning it. I was charged $218 for this. I can see being charged for the gas (which was probably less than $40) and a service fee, but $218 is absurd. I will never lease from Avis again and if you're smart, you won't either.

      Per our terms of use, rentals must be returned with the same level of fuel they are received with. Vehicles that return with less fuel are subject to audit. Additionally, if a fuel receipt has been presented at time of vehicle return, and once the vehicle is turned off and restarted it shows a lesser amount of fuel, a fuel service fee will apply. 

      Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.

      Rented a Honda Accord from AVIS BWI. Car had 60000 miles on it. Took an hour just to get the junker off the lot. All the chrome on the Accord was painted over black for which I cant figure out a reason, perhaps it was stolen. Felt like the wheels would come off at any moment. Reeked of Marijuana, which I suppose, if you work for them, is a requirement to get through the day. Charged $343.00 dollars for two days. If I had stolen a car from the parking lot, my fine in Criminal Court would have been substantially less,
      AVIS used to be a quality company. Now they're just rent a wreck with no customer service.

      South Bend Airport Avis is fraudulent. This year I was erroneously charged later on a prepay for gas when I brought vehicle back with full tank of gas. Last year, when I returned vehicle, they didn't want to check me in so they said to put keys in box. I returned vehicle on time but was later billed a 4 hour late fee. They told me to put the keys in the box again this year, but I refused and made them check me in. When I picked up car, despite signing up for Avis Preferred, they only had 1 vehicle, a sports car. Full lot of SUV's and only a few cars that were all "dirty" despite having 4 people working, one who just sat in office.

      First quote was an attractive $438 for a van Ny to FL. At pick up it went to $896. No real explanation as they say "original was only an estimate". Then they said $200 taken off for deposit.
      Then got the bill a quick grab at my card the very day I dropped off the van near 5pm running up to $1029!!!
      Put in a dispute as their customer service said fees added for using the airport as pickup and a cleaning fee max of $250. Even tho they determined cleaning on an already clean van the very day I dropped it off charging my card the same day. Suspicious. No explanations, bad customer service and hidden fees.
      My advice, run to another rental Co.

      We have checked our records and show your reservation was booked for $693.60 after taxes/fees, we were not able to locate a quoted rate of $438. Our review show the only additional charge you were billed was for the cleaning fee of $250.00 plus tax which brought your rental charges to $1029.36. Additionally we have checked our records and show due to the required cleaning of the vehicle it was taken out of service after you returned it and was not able to be rented again until October 1st, 2023.
