1 starHorrible and rude customer service. Rented a Standard SUV with a corporate rate and wanted to upgrade to a full size at the counter. The agent said the new rate would be $85/day, while it was actually on top of the original price, which is ridiculous as creating a new reservation and cancelling the original would have been cheaper. He deliberately misled me leading me to pay almost double for the rental.On top of that, the first car I received had a brake issue and had to be exchanged, the agent was dismissive but agreed to exchange it; had to waiting 30 minutes for a new one, causing me to be late.Avis Rent A Car

Avis does not wish to deceive anyone we do our best to make sure that all pertinent information is made available to our customer within the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. By way of explanation, an upgrade is always an additional fee it is never in place of existing charges and this information is listed on your rental agreement showing your new expected total. As we understand there may have been a misunderstanding about the upgrade as a gesture of ***************** we have discounted the upgrade by 20%. This is a total discount of $64.18, please allow up to 10 business days for this adjustment to process.

1 starThe customer service at ********************** is the worst I have seen at a large company period. 30+ minute phone call, 3 transfers, all to be told that zero customer service supervisors can be reached via phone and you have to wait for them to email you... and guess what? They send you a generic copy and pasted response.Had a reservation, arrive and was told only trucks or minivans are available. Due to a meeting I had, I took whatever car I could and came back a couple hours later to try and get an intermediate SUV again with no luck. Was standing in a group of dozens of people waiting for whatever car they could at this point. After our trip, all I wanted to do was extend my rental 5hrs for free and no one had the power to even accommodate that after all this ridiculousness we went through. The amount they wanted to charge me for a 5hr extension equated to two extra days with the car if I added that on my original bill... I would have taken an appropriate price change or anything really and Instead I get the lousiest customer service experience ever.Avis Rent A Car

1 starI rented a car for pick up at ****** Airport (***) to be dropped off at ***************** (BOS) 5 days later..the form I filled out asked for all personal info as well as payment info ****** giving me a fee of $378 and allowing a discounted fee if paid in advance..I agreed and initiated payment to THEN LEARN that an additional $197 was also charged to my ***** Phoned immediately and was told that all but $50 would be returned to my card, which it was. I feel as if this was bait and switch! Learned my ****** never to deal with Avis/Dollar again. *******************************Avis Rent A Car

1 starRented a vehicle from there, check in process was great. The employee was professional and corrigible. Car was not the cleanest I've gotten other places but I had my whole family with me and didn't really think much of it. I ended up extending the rental an additional day which was about $120 more. Upon returning the vehicle, I sat in the car for approximately ************************************************************************* her chair by the canopy this whole time, tell another customer to just leave the keys in the car that's all they needed to do. I was never greeted, or acknowledged, no "check in" process that I've always experienced at every other rental facility. I was charged an additional $250 for a few items left in the car. I believe most of it was under the passenger seat and I didn't see it. I called the customer service number on the letter to dispute but all they did was condemn me for leaving a small amount of "trash" in the car. I kid you not, it would have taken less than 5 seconds to pick that stuff up. There was no place I saw on site to place any unwanted items anyway. Had they approached me and "checked the vehicle" in I would have gladly removed it had they pointed it out. I feel its a huge scam to arbitrarily charge additional fees for something so miniscule. I've never had an issue like this renting vehicles and I've rented hundreds of vehicles in my lifetime. The Attorney General should investigate as well as the Federal Trade Commision. I see many of their responces in here. Something isn't right, seems they are running a racket out of there. Just look at all the complaints here. This is not NORMAL! I will not settle for this non-sense, its no way to treat a customer. I will persue this matter further as far as I can because this is insulting! Please note that per the rental terms and conditions it is the responsibility of the renter to return the vehicle back in the same or better condition than when it was rented. In the event the vehicle is returned dirty a cleaning fee of up to $450.00 may apply. We have reviewed the pictures provided by the rental counter which do support a cleaning fee being billed. At this time the cleaning fee is still pending on your account. Once the fee has been billed as a gesture of ***************** we have setup to discount the cleaning fee by 25%. Please allow up to 10 business days from the date of billing for this discount to process.

1 starWe reserved a car with AVIS but our flight was delayed by a day. We called ahead immediately and notified the local office where we would be picking up our car that we would be at least a day late. They assured us it would not be a problem, that they could see the status of our flight, and that they would hold the car for us. When we finally arrived, they said that we didn't call (even though I showed them the phone log on my phone) and so that they had given our car away and would charge us for an upgrade. They gave us a "discount" but still it was $190 more than what we had already paid. They would not budge even though my wife was in tears. When we returned home, I filed a complaint with AVIS. After many emails and phone calls over several week (including a mix up where they recorded my reservation number as my credit card number so I had to talk to several different departments to sort it out over several days) they approved me for a refund and said it would take 48 hours. I did not get the refund in that time so I called back. They said it actually be 7 business days. Two weeks later, I still had not received it so I called back and they said that I would have to contact the location where I rented the car directly. But the reason I had to contact the corporate office in the first place was because the local office was being dishonest and difficult. So frustrated with AVIS.Avis Rent A Car

1 starI would like to give this company a zero in the stars category, but it makes me choose at least one. Avis has THE WORST customer service. ********************** is advertising split billing on a rental, so if you are taking a work trip and want to add a personal day or two, you "should" be able to set up the business days on your corporate card, and your personal days on your personal card. You set this up through the app. Well, when I showed up to pick up my rental, first, they didn't have the car I rented. I ended up in a large mini-van when I just wanted a small fuel economic vehicle. Second, they had no idea what I was talking about with split billing, and then told me that if I set it up through the app, then that is how it should bill. To no surprise, they screwed up the billing and charged it all to one card. When I called, they kept saying that the split billing could only happen at the location, but when I was there those agents had no idea about it. So. FALSE ADVERTISING is taking place, and then they will do NOTHING to help fix the situation. DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS!!Avis Rent A Car

We are sorry to hear about the confusion over the billing process for your rental. Some locations will be able to accommodate split billing at the time of booking and prior to pick up on the modification screen on the Avis mobile app. Otherwise, the split bill must be completed at the rental location with the presentation of both the credit cards in the renter's name or a central billing account and a credit card in the renter's name. Regretfully, we cannot split a bill on a completed rental that has already been closed and billed to one card.
Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.

1 starAvis provides a automatic toll service BUT charges $3.95 for every day of the rental if it used even once. The info is hidden in the small print. So, my one day trip using the PA tollway with about $8.00 in toll charges ended up costing me $28.00 because Avis charged me $4.00 per day for the whole rental. What a ripoff. 1 starStarting at the counter with a long line, the agents try their best with selling you any option they can. They immediately asked us "would you like basic or full coverage?", without even mentioning that we have the option of declining coverage, which is deceptive at best. Upon returning the car the agent at the airport received it without saying a word, and everything seemed fine. Later on I got a letter in the mail several weeks after returning the car that they charged me $125 extra cleaning fee, and when I asked about evidence they sent photos of sand covering only the floor mats. So on top of the standard cleaning that's included in the rent, they placed an extra predatory charge of $125 for cleaning the RUBBER FLOOR MATS. The sand was quite visible to the airpot agent who received the car and physically sat in it to check the mileage, and if I had been told about it I would have cleaned it myself right away, which is really easy. This was intentional just to overcharge me later on. Would never rent from them again.Avis Rent A Car

1 starAVIS prepaid is a scam. You start a reservation with the option to pay now or pay later. The price listed appears reasonable with the length of the reservation. In my case, a 4 day rental was $280 prepaid. After completing the reservation, I received an email telling me my estimated total was $894. I contacted customer service immediately after making the reservation and they would not cancel reservation without the $50 cancelation fee. In my case, the cancelation fee was $150 because I was making the reservation day-of. They told me the full price of the reservation was available if I had clicked somewhere, but that was not clear to me anywhere during the booking process. I have since tried to go through the booking process again to find this detail and cannot find the "full price" listed.Avis Rent A Car
