1 starIf I could give 0 stars I would. My whole experience started off poorly during the pick up process. I am an Avis Preferred member and I arrived at their parking lot around 2300. Their preferred booth was closed so I had to go stand in the regular line, which I didn't think would be a big deal because there was only 2 people in line. But, I was wrong. It took the employees working there over 50 minutes to process those two people and at the same time the line is piling up behind me. I finally got into my car around midnight, and I noticed there was trash and dirt all over the car and it had a weird smell. I decided to accept the car anyways because who knows how long I would have to wait in line to change cars especially since I had a two hour drive ahead of me. I had the car for a few days and returned the car with a normal amount of dirt and salt expected from the snowy conditions. At drop off, there was no problem and, after inspection, the employee said the car was fine. Over a week later, I receive an email from Avis saying I am being charged a $250 cleaning fee. This is obscured and unreasonable for a quick vacuum of the front seats. I contacted their customer support and they proved to be useless. I would advise against renting from Avis. I have rented many cars before and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had.Avis Rent A Car

If a car is returned to us with trash, dirt, mud, or other soilage residue that a customer leaves behind, a location will bill up to $450.00 to clean the car so that it can be rented again. This is the expense associated with restoring the car for continued rental use.
We apologize, but we did not find a record of any pre-existing conditions from the time you picked up the vehicle. However, we do confirm that our **************** team has stopped the charges.

1 starBooked online with pickup at ***** Cruise port shuttle to downtown ***** Avis. Avis said that shuttle busses go there every 20 minutes. This was a lie! The shuttle was to take us to the downtown ***** Avis at ********************************************************************************************. We had to get private transportation to this Avis location. Once arrived, the wait time for only 2 customers ahead of me was over 1.5 hrs. There was only one attendant with very limited resources. This building had no restroom, a very musty odor of mold. Other customers also experience issues.Then, the car I had requested was not available, and they set me up on an SUV with only 1/8 tank of gas, and with dings everywhere. Not knowing the gas consumption, I filled the tank, and was left with 3/4 tank at arrival at drop-off location. The attendant at the *****************, my drop-off location was not able to reimburse for 5/8 extra gas. She told me I had to call the Avis customer service to get reimbursed.Additionally, when I went to pay for a botched reservation, the attendant said I could not use a Debit Card! The booking had to be changed to my wife to use her credit card. This is INSANE!I have used Avis many years ago, and was even a Preferred member. Avis has changed for the worse. Shuttle buses for the ***** port typically run every ***** minutes depending on traffic as well as the number of ships in port and are for arrivals only; the last shuttle is sheduled for 1:30pm although if there is only one ship, then the last shuttle is based on passenger expectancy.
We are sorry to hear that the experience at the Downtown ***** (M6I) location did not meet our typical standards. Please be assured that the responsible manager has been contacted to investigate further.
We are fully aware that providing good service is a major factor in separating us from the competition. To learn that we have failed to provide you with the level of service you would expect from us was perhaps as disappointing for us as it was for you.
From review of your case, we do confirm that our **************** team has made considerations to your concerns and have issued an adjustment to void the rental charges.

1 star"Cleaning fee" is an outright scam. I was charged $450 an entire month after the vehicle was returned. This is after an attendant looked at the vehicle and said everything looked good.Customer representative told me it was due to excessive dirt but refused to provide any photos. I reviewed the policy stating that up to $450 fee may be assessed if it is excessively dirty, smoke odor detected, or animal hair. I do not smoke or brought any pets, which means that any amount of dirt was deemed 'excessive' and apparently warrant the maximum fee. This is beyond reasonable and an outright scam.I have rented vehicles from other companies for ski trips and other outdoor activities and never had any issues with 'cleaning fees'. Somehow, the vehicle I rented out from Avis for a business trip had more dirt than ones used for outdoor activities, very questionable.Avis Rent A Car

If dirt, grass, and sand are left in the vehicle, the expense of removing the vehicle from service to clean it for future use is billed to the responsible renter. Return the vehicle seven days later got an additional charge for cleaning. Avis states that I had an animal hair in there, I did not have an animal vehicle called and complained. 1 starWorst car rental agency. Very time I try to use them there is a problem and they just dont care. Yesterday I had a reservation and when I got there they only had electric cars. They did not mention that on the phone and I couldnt use an electric car because of my distance and no charging stations. So I went to another one after calling them and got there to find no one there for 10 minutes. Ran my CREDIT card and he said you need a pin. My credit card does not require a pin. It then cancelled my reservation and he said basically too bad and we are closing. NEVER use them again!Avis Rent A Car

1 starThey deserve negative stars. First off the line was a ***** minute wait. The employees rush you through the process and overcharge/upsell for coverage you don't need. There is no Wifi so there is no way to check what you have already paid for in advance. When returning the car, I basically get a "too bad" when I informed then that I were misled and after checking my initial reservation in a place with wifi I realized I was overcharged more than $300 for a car for 4 days. **************** is also a dead end... another "too bad" . If you read other reviews, there are many customers being misled and overcharged. It would have been cheaper to get Ubers during my stay in *********.DO NOT USE AVIS!!!!!Avis Rent A Car

Rental charges are based on the rental parameters provided in the reservation or based on any changes made by the customer at the time the contract is created at the rental counter. These contracts are signed by the customer at the time of ********************** so that by signing the rental agreement contract, the customer agrees to all of the ********************** charges and any potential costs associated with changes in your rental parameters. The costs associated with any changes in the rental parameters are also outlined on the written contract. If a customer does not agree with the contract details presented at time of rental, it is the due responsibility of the renter to request clarification and correction prior to departing the location with the rental agreement and vehicle.
We are disappointed that you feel you were manipulated into signing for additional services. From review of the checkout interaction with the rental location, it was determined that service was offered and was accepted. The rental agreement was signed and the additional services were provided by Avis. In the event of an accident, damage to the rental car, third party property, etc., your financial responsibility would have been greatly reduced if not voided completely. Because of this we are unable to remove the cost of these options.

1 starRented a car for 2 days. Returned it in perfect condition after driving maybe 50 miles total in it. I received a letter saying I returned the car with tire damage. I immediately called to ask about it, understanding that if there was truly damage I would happily pay. I didnt recall anything out of the ordinary when I returned it. When I asked about what it meant I was basically yelled at by the representative. I asked at least for pictures of the damage and he said they werent loading. I later found out no pictures are taken at all for tire damage. Finally received an invoice after being billed and calling to ask again what it was for. The invoice states a flat tire. There was no flat tire on that car and they again refused to show me any evidence of the damage before proceeding to attempt to bill me $269 to replace 1 tire. Finally got reimbursed after pressing the representative for evidence of my damage and he could not provide any. Overall my experience was extremely unprofessional at best, with some glaring hints of scam behavior in both the way they spoke to me and in their business practices. 1 starOn March 30, 2024, I rented a one-way rental from AVIS *** to Imperial County. I was coming back from outside of the Country. I was tired, AVIS took long to give me my rental. But, when they finally did I was happy with the rental. They gave me a Challenger. I drove to Imperial County and turned in my rental. I thought that was it. On Monday April 8, 2024, I received an email from AVIS stating that my credit card was going to be charged $450, for cleaning. Supposedly their was a smoke smell in the car. I could not believe this. I do not smoke. I spent the rest of my Monday April 8, driving to AVIS in Imperial County, and talking to AVIS customer service. I was then told there was no attachments, or evidence and that I would be refunded the money. I asked for proof, and I was told that I would receive and email within 1 hour. I never did. I also asked to speak with a supervisor and the escalation department and I was told I would receive a call within 48 hours. To this day I have not heard from anyone. I checked my credit card statement only to find that AVIS had, fraudulently, done 2 other transactions, besides the $450, and the prepayed amount for the rental of $132. They had taken $308, and $250. I will NEVER do business with AVIS again. They took out a total of over $1000 from my credit card. I'm still waiting for the refunds. I also had to change my credit card, because of AVIS's fraudulent activity. This is completely unacceptable. This company should be thoroughly looked at. 1 starSCAM Alert!Protect yourself at the *** Avis rental car (recently moved to ****************************************************). I recently rented a vehicle and two weeks later received a notice for a $250 cleaning fee. The email customer service claimed that my reservation records had been "carefully reviewed". After multiple back and forth emails, I asked for photo documentation which showed all kinds of trash that was not mine. Fortunately, the pictures provided also showed the odometer reading which was 2000 miles above where I returned the car (shown on my receipt). Until I pointed this out (despite the "careful review" of my records), the Avis customer service was no help in getting these fraudulent charges removed. Apparently this is becoming a trend with Avis (see links below).
