      I booked a rental for a funeral on 5/2/23 at the Avis Car Rental at the **************************** in ******* for a funeral on 5/3/23. The return date was scheduled for 5/3/23 as I returned it back to the location on that date. I got certified letter to my home in ******** on 5/9/23 stating that the car has not been turned in to the location. The rental agreement number is. This is stress and to say that, there is no way of speaking to anyone at the ************** location at all. They also partner with Budget Car Rental, I'm not sure what's going on but this is very concerning. How can the BBB assist in this matter? Thanks,

      We can certainly understand your frustration and concerns. Although exceedingly rare, we may occasionally come across a situation where the vehicle is not properly checked in. Unfortunately, this is what appears to have happened in your case as we do not have record of a return for the vehicle assigned to your rental. 

      To further assist the investigation please log onto ************************************************************** and provide any of, but not limited to, the following documents:
      -Boarding pass with date and time
      -Parking validation with date and time
      -Taxi/Ride share receipts showing station address(es)
      -Fuel receipt from the actual gas station (no longer than 1 hr. prior to the return/drop off time/date)
      -Return slip from the location

      In the meantime, we have forwarded a report to our MDW location so that we can make the local management team aware for their attention and handling. When the vehicle has been accounted for and the rental contract closed, a copy of the receipt will be made available to you. 

      We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this matter as quickly as possible.

      I rented a car from Avis in ******* for a day on a work trip. A week after returning it I got charged and extra $125 for a cleaning fee. Upon further investigation with customer service, this was due to leaving a water bottle, some papers and a bag of ********* in the car. The agent who checked the car back in said nothing about this or else I would have thrown it out but was otherwise in a hurry. The car was acceptable to the agent who checked me back in and there was no mention of an additional fee if some minor items were left on the seat. I have never seen any charge like this at any other rental company and this feels predatory that they are sticking customers with extra charges hoping they won't fight them.I rented at the *************** on Jan 24, 2024.

      All renters are expected to return the vehicle in the condition it was received in. If a car is returned to us with trash, dirt, stains, or other soilage residue that a customer leaves behind, a location will bill up to $450.00 to clean the car so that it can be rented again. We understand you may not agree with this policy, but this is the expense associated with restoring the car after your use. 

      From the photos provided by the location, we do recognize the cleaning charges to be valid for the condition the vehicle was returned in after your use. However, we do confirm that our **************** team has issued a one-time courtesy refund of the cleaning fee in the amount of $125.00 on May 11th.

      Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.

      I rented a car from Avis, but my flight got canceled and the only available flight was from a different airport. Although I needed to change my reservation, the Avis representative at the counter didn't inform me and charged a $500 one-way fee without making it clear. This fee seems exorbitant, and I felt they tried to sneak it in. I'm disappointed with this experience and have decided not to use Avis again. Thank you, Enterprise, for taking care of me afterwards.

      As detailed on the rental contract and within our terms of use, renters are expected to return their vehicle to the agreed location. If a change is made during the rental, additional fees and rate changes may apply. This most commonly occurs when a rental is scheduled to be round trip and is changed to one way use. We understand that you may not agree with this policy, however these changes are in place due to the inventory issues caused by vehicle use being extended, not returned on time or as agreed, or returned to a different location that affect our expected availability for other customers. 

      Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.

      We rented a car in April 2024. Two weeks after the return, we received a letter from Avis stating the the car was returned with "excessive exterior dirt", and that $125 would be charged to our card. A "customer care" agent stated the the car was "covered with mud". This statement is false, as we did not return the car in that condition. The agent we spoke to was unhelpful, and our request to speak to his supervisor appears to have been ignored, as we received no phone call. We feel like victims of fraud. Though we have been loyal customers of Avis, we will not rent a car from them again.

      I rented a car and found a gas station .3 miles from the drop off location. I filled the tank until the pump auto stopped (so the tank 100% full) - I drove .3 miles (literally could have walked) and yet was charged for almost $8 worth of gas 'because there was less than when I rented'. I called and explained it was full when I returned it and that I wasn't going to 'top it off' after pump shut off - so how could I be charged for additional gas charge?! **************** told me she would take off charge. Was email receipt today and the additional charge it on there still. It is not a a lot of money but it is the point I followed directions and returned with a completely full tank and they still uncharged me. will never rent from them again.

      As noted in the terms provided on the rental receipt and check-out paperwork, renters are requested to return with the same fuel level as the vehicle is checked out with and to present a copy of their refueling receipts upon return; the receipt must show a fuel purchase, number of gallons, as well of the cost in relation to the return date and time. 

      Our records indicate an after check-in fuel audit was performed and the vehicle was showing returned with 0.7 gallons less than checked out with and a refueling fee was applied for this reason. However, we do confirm that our **************** team issued a refund of the $7.68 fuel charge on May 9th and this adjustment may take up to 5 business days to process.

      The lost and found in Avis is a joke. I forgot to take my sunglass when I returned my car at *********************. I called the phone number for that site many times. When I choose Lost and Found, it just disconnects calls. I tried to call Avis customer service. They gave me the web ************************************** to fill a form. But you cannot find the ************* Airport location in the field (even you choose ****** but no response to States). The web site told me if I cannot find the location there, call the location phone. I did it again to call the Avis phone at ******* but this time, if I choose Lost and Found in the phone menu, the same thing. I had to choose different option to get someone to talk. She pointed me back to that website. Basically, it is a dead loop.

      I am a Preferred Plus member and had a horrible experience with Avis in *************************. I rented a car (minivan) and had my entire family with me. A week after I returned the car (and the payment processed), Avis sent me a notice saying there was "dirt" in the van and would be charging me $125 for the cleaning. We stayed in the middle of the city - a concrete jungle with no dirt or soil to find. And after a week they found dirt - who knows who rented this after me. The charge was absolutely ridiculous and I have 6 witnesses that all said there was zero dirt in the van - we even cleared out the trash, cups and any debris in the car. Looks like a money making scam that doesn't deserve your business.

      Was the worst experience with renting a car. It took them over an hour to get us a car. Called spoke with a gentleman on customer service and was told I would get a day back since their delay caused us to miss multiple events we were to attend. He did say he was unable to help at the location and that we would need to talk with a manager at the place. Finally able to locate a manager and got told a different spot in the garage to go with issues on that one he told us to try another vehicle. Returned car and called back to ask for refund only told that it was a coupon and since we weren't traveling for a length of time that he wasn't able to help and hung up. Only bad things to say about this company.

      We rented from Avis on October 30 from SDF and returned the car to ******************** on May 1. Almost a week later I received a letter stating the car was returned with "heavy smoke smell" and plan to charge my credit card $450. This is impossible as I don't smoke and neither does my son. In fact he has severe allergies, takes medication and sees an ENT regularly. I spoke with customer service and offered to have them contact our health care providers and life insurance company to prove we don't smoke. Avis is committing fraud. Avis lied about the "smell" and then sent photos with specks of dust claiming these were "ashes." They are charging my credit card based on false accusations and fabricated evidence. I will do everything in my power to dispute this fraudulent charge and warn others about Avis via social media.

      If a car is returned to us with evidence of smoking or cigarette residue that a customer leaves behind, a location will bill up to $450.00 to clean the car so that it can be rented again. As no record was found of pre-existing conditions from the time you picked up the vehicle, we do find that this charge is valid. 

      At your convenience, please log on to ************************************************************** and provide your copy of the vehicle inspection slip provided by the *** location for the condition of the car at the time of pick up for further review.

      I typically rent from Avis with no issues however, I went to modify a reservation picking it up 1 day after intended (fewer days with the car). The price went up ~$62. When I looked up the same search requirements without it being a modification from my original reservation then it was cheaper. Something needs to be done about these companies that completely take advantage of people. This isn't a cancellation, just a modification of one day less. So, essentially, I am being charged more than my original reservation for renting the car less, or they're just trying to charge a fee for having to modify my reservation.
