1 starAbsolutely furious. I rented a car from Avis at this location. I had the vehicle for 19 days. a week after I returned the vehicle I received a letter from them indicating they were charging me $250.00 for a cleaning fee. I called Avis and asked why and they told me that they were charging me because there was sand in the vehicle. Not surprising as this was a rental in ******. We rinsed and bagged all of our snorkel gear every time we left the beach, and I cleaned the vehicle out when I returned it and made sure there was no garbage or debris in it. I did not notice an abnormal amount of sand in the car, so I asked a few more questions and was told I should have washed and vacuumed the vehicle before I returned it as the rental agreement specifies that the vehicle is to be returned in the same condition it was received in. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was promised a call back which I never received. I contested the charges on my credit card but Avis asserted that they were within their contractual rights to charge me. I finally received pictures which show small amounts of sand in the drivers and passengers foot ***** and a small amount of sand in the rear passenger area; about what you would expect from foot traffic in and out of the vehicle. I would be surprised if they spent 10 minutes with a vacuum cleaning this up which means they are charging me $1500.00 per hour for the cleaning. I would be extremely reluctant to rent from them again.Avis Rent A Car

Dear Mr./************,
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter has caused.
From the photos provided by the location of the sand and grass in the floor space of the front and back of the vehicle as well as the luggage space, we do find the cleaning charges to be sufficient for the condition the vehicle was returned in. If a car is returned to us with trash, dirt, sand, or other soilage residue that a customer leaves behind, a location will bill up to $450.00 to clean the car so that it can be rented again. We understand you may not agree with this policy, but this is the expense associated with restoring the car after your use.
We apologize that there was not a more favorable outcome.
Sincerely,

1 starMy spouse is an employee at this company, and he's had some car issues lately as well as I have had an injury and have a 5 year old Non Verbal Autistic Child to care for, so it makes it hard for me to move around and care for her, so he's had to call in to help me out because I can't physically walk to care for our child. Well the Boss *****, decided to take it up on herself and treat my spouse like a pile of dirt over this. She's racist and doesn't care who she talks to anyway that she wants to. If you aren't Mexican, she puts her nose up at you and treats you like garbage. This is unacceptable behavior and it's not tolerated. My spouse is ready to walk away from this job already and he just started working there. ***** needs an attitude check really quick before we decide to take legal action against her, things happen that are uncontrollable. The least she could do is be more understanding instead of being an ungrateful brat to white people. I'm fed up. This isn't the first time my spouse has had issues with her.Avis Rent A Car

1 starHello,My name is ************ and I picked up a vehicle for Uber on March 26 at location ***** ************ and unfortunately the car had bad brakes, bad battery, issues with the tires, improper headlights etc. *** associates at **** helped me get in touch with customer service to inform them of issues with the car and that no vehicle was available for exchange. I sought additional options, so the associates and I asked to initiate a refund on my behalf and discounts to compensate until the car is fixed or exchanged (customer service stated I should not have been put in the car, nor the car available to be rented out due to bad faulty battery) on March 28 and also scheduled appointments to service the issues with the vehicle. I went to the ************* location and sat there w/o being helped then told the location does not help with Uber cars, therefore I sat there all day for no valid reason. I was sent there to test if the battery was bad before they helped me however the car had fell completely dead and also jumped several times after. I had to return to that same location after a proper appointment was set to test if the battery was bad and that was already obvious. *** battery tested bad and I still had to return twice after the test for the battery to be replaced. On April 30, I went to pay on the vehicle and the associates informed me that my account is behind and no credits or anything were put on my accounts regarding the issues a month earlier. I called customer service while sitting in the *********** and customer service stated, "We have no record of your issues or calling roadside and because the first agent did not put any notes....nothing could be done to honor the error despite the issues still occurring". Due to the agent handling the call poorly and several that followed I was then placed on a Do Not Rent list with a repo fee and note placed on my door " you will be arrested, charged and prosecuted. Avis Case: 64433672
Dear Mr./************,
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We are sorry to hear about the difficulties you may have experienced.
Our records show that from your start of Uber rental services in early February, you have had use of 4 different vehicles, the last of which was in your use from March 13th to May 12th. We have recovered one jump-start request made on April 9th to our Emergency Roadside team which was recorded as completed. Unfortunately, we found no other notes for vehicle condition issues for the vehicle while it was in your use.
Regarding the Do Not Rent status, our records indicate multiple events of card decline for weekly renewals and billing was consistently past due. Your final rental was backdated for use for April 16th through April 23rd, but due to card decline, the rental could not be renewed and you were removed from the Uber program and a Letter of Demand for return was issued. Another Letter of ****** was issued on April 30th and when you failed to return our Loss Prevention team became involved with recovery and repossession. The vehicle was physically recovered on May 12th and your rental was billed for late return and recovery expenses. For this reason, you were placed on the Do Not Rent list.
We apologize that there was not a more favorable outcome.
Sincerely,
Avis Budget Group

1 starAfter renting a car for 8 days, I returned it with a small amount of sand on the floor. It was driven in rural ******, not to the beach. I travelled alone, not with a family or pets. Avis elected to charge me $125 USD for "detailing." I wish I could attach photos to this review to show how insane the charge is. There was no damage done to the car, no smoking, no food stains, no pet hair. There was less than 2 tbsp of sand on the floor. Rather than cultivate a lasting client relationship, they would prefer to do a cash grab while they have my CC on file. I'm astounded.Avis Rent A Car

1 starWe rented a car from Avis in **********. The next day, the car stopped operating requiring a tow and taxi to get the car and us back to the Avis rental office. The car, upon repeated attempts, would not start, with blue/gray smoke exiting from the exhaust. We immediately called the number provided by Avis that initiated the tow truck and taxi. It appeared to us that there was major engine damage, although we did nothing to initiate or aggravate the condition. In our opinion, we were rented a defective car from Avis that was not properly serviced by Avis which did not meet the terms of our rental contract. Upon receiving our rental invoice from Avis, we were charged an additional $517.90 for "misc. charges". We have had multiple conversations and emails with both Avis *************************************************** for these additional costs. To date, we have received no details or itemization of the charges. We have since received an email from Avis ********** that we put incorrect fuel in the car. It should be noted that we put NO fuel in the car which can easily be verified by the mileage we drove and the fuel remaining in the tank (we traveled approximately 100 miles with the tank 3/4 full). In addition, we have received a response from Avis US that "the rental was within the terms and conditions of the Avis car rental" and "charges have been respectively processed". However we have yet to find any place in the Avis rental agreement that the customer is responsible for negligent acts of Avis by renting a defective car. We believe we have been intentionally defrauded by AVIS ********** with little support from Avis.Avis Rent A Car

Regretfully, as we did not find a record of any pre-existing conditions from the time you picked up the vehicle, it was determined that damages were incurred to the vehicle ******** while in your use and this is why you were billed for repairs of $442.48, including tax.
We apologize that there was not a more favorable outcome.

1 starAvis will put your family at risk and then make you assume the financial liability for their mistakes. Avis rented our family a car that had almost all service lights on the dash illuminated. We brought this to the attention of the staff and they assured us that the car was safe to drive.Their car broke down on a highway putting our family in extreme danger and completely ruined our trip. After hours and hours of waiting with the police (whom were extremely helpful) for a tow truck, we finally were able to make it to safety. We then were without a rental car for the remainder of our reservation and wasted significant time in dealing with Avis.On a recorded line, an Avis supervisor assured us that since we followed their protocols, we would be reimbursed for the out of pocket tow expense that we incurred. For the inconvenience and the fact that we paid for days of a rental car that we did not get to use, we asked Avis for reimbursement. Avis is now telling us that we are financially responsible to pay the tow fee for their car that broke down and put our family's safety at risk. We have spent hours and hours on the phone, sending the required documentation they asked for, messaged their team via various communication channels only to be told (without any sympathy or understanding) that we are just out the expense for the tow and it's not their problem. What's even more upsetting is the complete lack of empathy, understanding, or critical thinking used in this situation. I know that someone will probably respond saying to reach out to XYZ email but we have already wasted so much of our time, I doubt anyone will actually be able to help us which is why I'm so adamant about sharing our story. Whatever you do, do not rent from Avis, save yourself the time and headache and most importantly, keep your family safe.Avis Rent A Car

Dear Mr./******************,
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. Reports such as yours are most appreciated since they help us target and correct areas of service which might be improved.
This is certainly not an ideal situation and we truly apologize this was your experience during this rental. We are not sure why our roadside team was unable to be of more assistance with the towing issue. Some service requests can take several hours depending on the availability of the service provider who accepts the service request. We have filed a formal complaint with the roadside team so that a better action can be put in place to avoid similar delays in the future.
Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.

1 starI rented a one-way from *********** to ******* on 4/9/24 that included a $200 refundable deposit. I was literally in the car for no more than 5 hours. Here it is over a month later and I have not yet received my refund. I called Avis customer service, gave her the information and she pulled the rental information. She next told me she needed a fax number. Here is how that conversation went: A fax number? F-A-X? For who? Her answer, the credit card company. She said they would send the credit card company a fax and tell them to release the money to me. So I said, you are telling me you credited them? Yes. When? 4/10. Do you have a transaction number? Yes. Can you give it to me? 0089. You are kidding me! You have an 11 digit rental number, probably a twelve digit credit card transaction number, and you are telling me you have a credit number with only 4 digits, 0089? Yes. She never said another word after that. Unbelievable!!!! Either a very lazy customer service person, or an absolutely horrendous AVIS policy for returning deposits. I has set up an account and was considering using AVIS for my future rentals. Avis Rental 43812084US1. NEW CUSTOMER's first encounter.Avis Rent A Car

In regards to the aforementioned BBB complaint case# ********, thank you for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns.
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter has caused.
The $200.00 is captured as a pending hold until the vehicle has been returned. Once the vehicle is returned we release the hold and only bill the cost of the rental. Our records show that the rental charges were $438.94, if you are seeing the $438.94 plus the hold please provide a copy of your credit/debit card statement for our review. If the $438.94 is the only amount on your account than the hold was released.
Thank you for allowing us to assist you.

1 starCHARGED 250% ABOVE ADVERTISED PRICE. It is far too risky to rent from AVIS, due to opaque fees, upsells, and either unknowledgeable or intentionally deceitful service reps.We booked an 8-day car rental from the *************** for $438 and were later blown away when we saw a CHARGE FOR OVER $1100. I assumed there was a credit authorization hold, but it turned out we'd been taken for a ride. 1) Our selected car was not available. The rep assured us multiple times that we would not be charged for taking a different car. We later learned we were. 2) We scrutinized the fees and taxes at checkout. We were explicit that we did not want any add'l services or charges. Nor any E-toll service. The rep assured us there were no add'l services being applied. 'Inflation in the cost was the credit card hold (would be removed) and sales tax incl on the hold (which couldn't be helped).' We were absolutely gouged with 'optional services' against our knowledge. Note - We accepted the gas service, as this was required by booking through Alaska Airlines(?). The person at the counter was personable and obviously working a difficult job. Yet, given our CLEAR requests, I can only presume it was her intent to deceive and upsell us. After the trip, I called customer service. After 6 holds and explaining the situation, the representative was profoundly unhelpful, repeatedly telling me "you have no proof." I shouldn't have to have the service rep **** an affidavit nor should I have to record our conversation. The responsibility of this debacle falls on Avis. I flew my small family across the ** to visit family. Paid for a nice accommodation near the coast. This all came out to $600. How are you going to say that driving 700 miles on a car costs $1100? UNREAL. I have had the worst Saturday trying to work through this mess that could've been handled up front. Advertised Price: $438 ****** **** Tax Price: $680 (if you accept *****% sales tax and bogus concession fees).Actual: $1104Avis Rent A Car
