1 starCharged me for multiple things that I did not ask for- charged me for a full tank of gas when I had returned the gas tank full. I talked to the service agent and they refused to help or erase charges that were false. The fact that they are completely unaccountable for their poor business practices is abhorent.Avis Rent A Car

Dear Mr./****************,
In regards to the aforementioned BBB complaint, thank you for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns.
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter has caused.
We have checked our records and show that our **************** Team has already removed the fuel charge from your rental. A credit of $151.32 was issued on August 28th, 2024, to the **** card ending in 3146. The only additional charge we show on your rental was the unlimited toll service (TOL) that you accepted at the start of the rental to prevent being charged for each toll individually, along with the daily convivence fee.
Thank you for allowing us to assist you.
Sincerely,
Avis Budget Group

1 starAvis Misc Charge for Pet Hair I am a preferred Avis member and have been renting exclusively from them for my job for four years. Dozens of rentals. I know not to have a pet in their vehicles or any rental vehicle, and I've never had one in a vehicle. I returned a vehicle on Friday, August 23rd to the downtown ********* branch, with nothing being said to me about any pet hair I would be charged for, and then on Monday, August 26th I saw an email receipt with a $300 misc charge. I called the branch to discuss, and let the woman know I did not have a pet in my vehicle. I ended up getting hung up on. The worst customer service I can remember.I called the corporate number after that, and I was told by a customer service representative that the $300 charge would be waived - that it would be reimbursed to my credit card and I would get an email confirmation of that. I did not get that confirmation, so I called back on Tuesday, August 27th. At which, I was told that reimbursement did not go through - that the charge was made at the branch and only they could get rid of the charge. More bad customer service.I was then transferred to a territory manager. Her response was that there is "no way" that the hair she saw in the vehicle could have come from my luggage and things packed into the car. My response is that even if there is a pet hair policy - which there was pet hair - that to just charge me $300 without telling me is wrong. It would have cost me $120 to keep the car another day - I could have easily vacuumed up the little bit of pet hair. To just charge that much money to a long time customer with no warning is egregious. To insinuate that I'm lying, when I have never had any misc. charge for damage, pet hair, etc. for four years, is wrong. To not work with me at all on what isn't cut and dry is wrong - pets shed and hair sticks to clothing, bags, etc. I never had a shot at getting anything refunded. Very disappointing customer service overall.Avis Rent A Car

Dear Mr./****************,
In regards to the aforementioned BBB complaint, thank you for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns.
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter has caused.
We have reviewed the pictures provided by the rental counter which do show animal hair in the vehicle at the time of return. Additionally, the counter did take a picture of the odometer to support what rental this was from. The mileage does match the mileage at the time of your return. Based on this we do find the cleaning fee to be a valid charge.
Thank you for allowing us to assist you.

1 starOn Saturday August 24, 2024, I went to pick up a prepaid vehicle at the AVIS Rental ********** located at the ******************************. To my complete disbelief, the vehicle was not only dirty but also had an empty fuel tank with a blinking yellow light. Thinking that it was an oversight by a lazy and careless employee, I ran back to the office to complain to the young Hispanic agent in the front desk. To my surprise, she confessed to me that her location does not have access to credit card nor a gas station to fuel the vehicles. Therefore, she suggested to me, I should fuel the vehicle myself and return it with an empty tank. Unbelievable!!!!After more than one hour of back and forth and waiting, she finally replaced the vehicle by another one with a quarter fuel tank or so.I chose AVIS because it is a reputable company with more than 78 years of existence. A company that operates in *************, *************, ******, *****, *********, ***********, and ************. With this lengthy experience, of course I expected better. Anyone would have been fooled by it. This is so disappointing that experience no longer means anything. Greed and selfishness are the current norm. **************** is the least of big companies concerns. Hidden fees and poor customer service are the way to go now.Since I travel a lot, its hard for me to say that I would never use this company. But I would think twice anytime I have the opportunity to do so.Respectfully,******* #********US1Avis Rent A Car

We understand that you are a first time Avis Preferred member and apologize that our prepay policies were overlooked at the time of your booking.

1 starI am a military member moving back to the states from overseas, I have no choice but to rent a car for several weeks so I can get around while I wait for my car to be shipped from overseas. This is the first and only time I will use Avis, I have not used them in the past, but because I was able to prepay for the 3 weeks I needed the car- I chose them. I did not get the toll package in the begining of the rental because I was not travelling outside of ******. When my car arrived, I visited an Avis office to add a toll e pass for ONE DAY, so that I could travel down to ********** to get my car- ONE DAY of travelling through tolls. When I received my bill, they charged me $239.00 EXTRA charging me for each day of my 21 day rental. I called to try and get this resolved, it would have been cheaper to not pay for the epass and wait for a bill of only $16.00 total going through tolls. I prepaid $1675, they hit me with other charges that totaled $2709. Why do you prepay with a contract ?? when they are going to charge you extra anyway. It is very frustrating. Next time I will make sure I use another company to rent a car when I have to.Avis Rent A Car

Dear Mr./****************,
In regards to the aforementioned BBB complaint, thank you for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns.
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter has caused.
The only **** service you can purchase is our Unlimited **** Pass (***) which is $14.99 per day or $74.95 per week and maxes out at $299.80 per month. As your rental was for 22 days you were billed $239.84 for this service. Our records show that our **************** Team did discount the *** package by 30% as a gesture of **************** which resulted in a refund of $85.53. In the future if you do not want the unlimited toll package you have the option to either pay for tolls as you go thru them or to let the Highway **** Authority bill you for the tolls after the fact. Please note if you choose to be billed at a later date there is a daily convenience fee that applies as well.
Thank you for allowing us to assist you, please note you can also contact our **************** Team directly at ************ for assistance.

1 starAfter being up since 3:30am to catch a redeye flight and traveling with my elderly parents, we waited in line at the Budget/Avis counter at the ****************** for over an hour! At times there were over 30 people in line, and of the 7 ***** stations only 2 at the most we ever manned. We got hopeful when a 3rd ***** arrived only to have 2 *****s leave 5 minutes after she came on shift! Really ridiculous & inexcusable. Will not rent from Avis again! We usually rent from Enterprise or Hertz. Rented from Avis this time because ***************** offered flight miles to rent Avis. 1 starI rented a car from Avis using my employee discount at the ************************ with the total being $38. When I returned, I parked the vehicle in the return lot, I grabbed my bag from the trunk and made my way to the counter where I handed the keys and contract to the lady and told her that I parked it in return lot. When I received my e-statement, I nearly had a heart attack as I saw a charge for $338! I call the ******** location only for my call to be transferred to a call center which they didn't have anything to help me. I sent a text to my supervisor and he said that he will get ahold of them and fix this ASAP. I can't believe that after 8 years of loyalty to Avis, I can't believe that I am getting scammed.Avis Rent A Car

1 starHorrible experience renting from Avis ... arrived from a delayed flight at 1:30am and the Avis counter was one of the few still open. As I completed my car rental the agents were closing the counter. Went out to the car and it REEKED of cigarette smoke. Figured if I rolled the windows down it would get better. It actually got worse. Drove to my destination and parked it. Bought a can of Ozium hoping to get rid of the stench. Nowhere near strong enough. Finally called Avis and sat on hold for 20min to see if I could swap the car for another one and they said 'no problem' and directed me to a local Avis and said they had contacted the local office and would have a car ready for me. Spent another 30min driving there and waiting in line before being told "they didn't have a car for me". Meaning they had cars but they didn't want to take a stinky, cigarette-reeking vehicle off my hands so there was nothing available for me. Other customers were having no problem getting their cars. Went to another Avis location -- same story. No cars for me. Ended up driving the stinky Avis car back to the airport in 103-degree heat with the windows down, sweating buckets and breathing from what was basically a 4-seat ashtray, before finally dropping off the car at the airport. WILL NEVER RENT FROM AVIS AGAIN. AVOID AVOID AVOID.Avis Rent A Car

1 starDO NOT RESERVE VEHICLES IN ADVANCE FROM AVIS. I reserved a vehicle from *********** Sunport for Aug 8, 2024. Day of, I called Avis to explain my flight may be delayed. He said he would add my flight info to my file so the local Avis would know. The weather was worse than expected and my flight arrived after midnight, now into Aug 9. Upon arrival, I went straight to the Avis desk but nobody was there (actually, it's worse: a shuttle bus driver saw I wanted Avis and told me that a car in the parking lot belonged to the Avis person; the shuttle driver then waved at the car to indicate their help was needed, the car driver paused, looked, then drove off w/o helping me) So, I took a taxi to my hotel and later that morning took a taxi back to the airport's Avis. The friendly employee said they didn't have anything in the vehicle class I'd reserved, and even a similar class would require me to wait. I asked what she had immediately and took that. If that was all then I would have grumbled at the inconveniences (and taxi costs), but wouldn't have complained. What prompted this complaint is this: when I checked out the vehicle I was told what the cost would be, and when I returned the vehicle I was told what my total cost would be, but that is NOT what Avis is trying to take from me. The cost that I was told and the value of actual services received was $374.98. But instead, because I reserved in advance, they are claiming an additional $115.79 of my money, the difference presumably being for the extra day where they DIDN'T rent me a vehicle - where I tried to obtain a vehicle and they left me hanging at an empty desk. If this was truly a 'reservation' where my money had actually been reserving something then they would have had my requested vehicle class. But, remember, they didn't. My "reservation" had reserved nothing, yet they are keeping my money as if it had. So, DON'T RESERVE IN ADVANCE: if you must use Avis, just do it when you arrive.Avis Rent A Car

We apologize that the counter did not stay open for your arrival, we have shared your feedback with ***************** so that this can immediately and appropriately be addressed with the locations staff and Management. Additionally, our records show that you reservation was booked for 4 days and you ended up keeping the vehicle for 3 days and 9 hours, as we bill in 24 hour periods this would still be considered a 4 days rental so there would be no refund for unused time.
Thank you for allowing us to assist you.

1 starWe had to drop our kid off at an out-of-state college on 08/10/24, so we booked a midsize *** on 07/19/2024. Our Avis reservation #********US3.. I did early check-in on the day of the pickup and went to the location to pickup the rental ***. I have not seen this kind of worst customer service in my entire life. They told me that they have no cars. I had booked the *** almost 3 weeks before, and still they did not honor it. They could have called, texted, or emailed me; I would have made alternate arrangements. The customer service supervisors can be reached only via phone. So I called the supervisor; he asked me to go to another location, which was further away, and obviously the price was double. I cancelled my reservation and had to do a last-minute alternative arrangement.Avis rental is unethical, cheap, and fraud. I would request other customers to avoid it.Avis Rent A Car

Dear Mr./********************,
In regards to the aforementioned BBB complaint, thank you for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns.
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter has caused.
Reservations are booked based on our expected availability, however when vehicles are returned back late or returned damaged it can cause us to not have the availability we had expected. In these cases we will try to find a vehicle from another location, if we are not able to we would have to refer you to rent with a competitor. In the event you did rent with a competitor and your rental costed more than your expected charges with us we are happy to review for your charges for possible reimbursement of the extra charges.
Thank you for allowing us to assist you.
