1 starI rented a vehicle for a small vehicle, the vehicle was not ready for pick up, Avis recommended another vehicle that was ready to be driven however it was a mid-size bigger vehicle. There was no questions about any form of higher rates, any form of penalties nothing, I took the vehicle and gave them my credit card for the hold of $200.00 deposit. They said the deposit would be removed once the vehicle has been returned accordingly. I returned the vehicle to the same place (airport) and low and behold I still have a $200.00 balance on my credit card for this "deposit". I have sent letters to Avis and no return or any form of communication I am deeply dissatisfied and expect my credit card to be paid and have my monies returned this is strictly theft! I am a preferred customer and I always hire ********************** cars even when overseas, I have NEVER had any issues but I cannot allow for a company to hold $200.00 for no explanation and I am left to pay this bill! Unacceptable, where is my answer?Avis Rent A Car

Dear Mr./************,
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter has caused.
Upon the end of the rental, typically within 72 hours of check-in, Avis will automatically release any unbilled hold amount back to your account. Depending upon the policies of your financial institution, they may take additional time to make the funds once again available for your use. ************************* will return your funds within 15 days after the transaction date. However, some holds may last as long as 30 days, depending on the issuing bank's policy for travel-related transactions.
Unless a rental's charges meet or exceed the value of the hold, Avis doesn't actually receive the total amount of the funds in the hold. As a result, most banks and card providers do not show the return of the unused hold amount as a credit; it will simply be returned to your available balance.
If no pending authorization holds remain, this typically indicates that the unused amount was already allocated back to your balance by your card provider. If you have a record of any unexpected completed or pending transactions, at your convenience, please provide screenshots of the transaction dates, amounts and transaction details for further review at ************************************************************** so we can investigate this matter further.
Thank you for allowing us to assist you.
Sincerely,
Avis Budget Group

1 starSo I rented a car from Avis. When I got in the vehicle and headed towards the exit I noticed the tank wasn't full. They marked it on the contract but not sure why it's my responsibility to fill the tank. No big deal. Later that evening I was pulled over, sent through a roadside sobriety test (I had not been drinking) and placed in the back of a police car. Why? There was no license tag on the back of the vehicle. Not blaming the police - I had out of state license, no insurance card for the vehicle I was driving and the pamphlet that Avis provides is hand written and could pretty easily be faked. I get they had to confirm the vehicle wasn't stolen. I immediately called Avis customer service and was routed to an overseas call center which was zero help and essentially all they kept saying was return the car. They couldn't even connect me to the rental counter to ensure there was another vehicle available much less arrange for it to be ready when I arrived. After traveling 40 minutes back to the airport spending another hour waiting in lines to get a new vehicle and driving 40 minutes back Avis offered to comp ONE RENTAL DAY or about $35. There over 20 rental car companies at the *********************** any of which would be a better choice than Avis.Avis Rent A Car

Dear Mr./****************,
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter has caused.
Avis strives to provide a mechanically sound, well-maintained fleet, and we are sincerely sorry that you were inconvenienced by the registration display and that this was not brought to our attention for correction or exchange at the time you received the vehicle. Most law enforcement agencies recognize that renters are not responsible for the registration upkeep of a vehicle and will issue citations against the rental company that owns the vehicle and not the renter. Regretfully, if a law enforcement officer finds need to pursue additional reasons for citation, Avis would not be responsible for such resolve.
We do confirm that our Escalation team made offers to remove the charges for a rental day or to provide a rental voucher for two free rental days on a future rental to accommodate the registration issue which were rejected.
Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.
Sincerely,

1 starWhy even have reservations the whole lobby of customers with reservations is waiting for you, not a great way to run a rental car business. Been here for over 4 hours, shameful and embarrassing for your C-suite. No wonder their stock price has dropped 60% in a year. They spend more money replying to all these terrible reviews instead of actually doing something to fix this problem. There needs to be some sort of internal audit or inspection they can do when this location is obviously a huge problem to the point where you have a whole social media team pouring tiny insignificant drops of water on this dumpster fire. We finally got a car but it wasnt the one we reserved it was filthy and full of trash and to add insult to injury there were 4 of the car we reserved right there in front of us in the parking lot. I really hope this company folds, never renting from them again. How is this not blatant fraud???Avis Rent A Car

1 starIve used Avis twice and wont ever use them again. The customer service at The ************** location was terrible. The car on that trip was not nice enough - I was fine renting a basic ******, but it was sub par. I was charged an EXORBITANT gas refuel fee when the tank wasnt even close to empty. A couple weeks ago I had To book from them again . There was One toll that didnt accept cash and I had opted out of the expensive ez pass they ********** when I went through that toll I knew Avis would be charging me. They charged me $51 for what was an inexpensive toll. Avis will do whatever they can to get every ***** they can from you.Never again .Avis Rent A Car

Dear Mr./******************,
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience of unexpected charges.
All rentals are subject to audit, if a fuel receipt has been presented at time of vehicle return, and once the vehicle is turned off and restarted it shows a lesser amount of fuel, a fuel service fee will apply. In the case of your rental, the vehicle was returned with 4.5 gallons less than it was checked out with and you were billed as indicated on the rental agreement for refueling.
Regarding toll charges, please understand Avis does not bill you for the toll charges directly. As stated in the terms and conditions of your Avis rental jacket in the section for Rental Charges, by signing the rental agreement, you do allow Avis to submit your own billing information for toll charges based on your use with the rental vehicle.
We understand you may not agree with these findings. However, we do find your rental billing to be correct and no adjustments are warranted for the services billed.
Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.
Sincerely,

1 starThis branch was very horrible. Horrible customer service, would not approve work needed on the car, and extremely short with explanation to questions I had. Upon renting the car they informed me to take it to ******** to have the oil changed and tires rotated. A month into my rental and $1500 spent they would not approve the work and told me to just bring the car back and attempt to get another one. Getting the first car was a hassle that took a week so i definitely was not excited to go through the process again. So I ended up taking the car back early and ending my rental. I was looking at my bank statement and noticed a charge of $437 which seemed weird because my normal charge was $390 for the past month and this was done after I returned the car. After attempting to get clarification from the Avis branch I decided to just file a dispute with my bank because they seemed to know nothing, both at the branch and customer service. Im recommending anyone I know to never use Avis, they do not care about their renters.Avis Rent A Car

Dear Mr./******************,
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter has caused.
We forecast vehicle availability based on how vehicles are scheduled to return. Several circumstances could cause inventory issues such as vehicles being extended, not returned on time or as agreed, returned to a different location, or breakdowns. We do our best to accommodate every rental but sometimes if vehicles aren't returned when they are scheduled, it causes us to be short on vehicles and can limit availability for exchange. Unfortunately, we do not regularly authorize our renters to perform repairs or maintenance to our vehicles and regardless of availability, it may be necessary to return a vehicle that requires service.
As for the additional charge, your rental was billed for return of a less-than-full tank of fuel. However, our **************** team has since issued a courtesy credit for this charge on September 11th and this should reflect on your account within 3-5 days from that date.
Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.
Sincerely,

1 starSo firstly Avis treated me and my family with great disrespect. My dad cracked a joke and asked if there was a senior discount. ******* Davis behind the desk then proceeds to freakout saying and the kicker was when he asked us if we need an interpreter. Now for context my dad has an Indian accent but speaks English well. I have the plainest American accent ever, but brushed it off because I am used to these unsavory and racially charged comments. Ok whatever, so the next day we find out that they issued us a car with no functioning passenger side seat belt. According to Ohio law this is illegal and according to anyone with half a brain cell this should not be rented by a business whose whole business model is renting cars. We attempted to return the car and were not given a replacement. We were then given the option to drive an hour to the airport in a non roadworthy car or come back the next day. We come back 2 days later. Still no car. Any reasonable business would hold a car for a customer who likes cars that meet minimum safety standards. The cherry on top is that I was not given a 100% refund for a car that was not ready to be rented. Overall this is a terrible experience Avis should be cited for their negligent practicesAvis Rent A Car

Dear Mr./**************,
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter has caused.
We are sorry to hear of any inappropriate conduct from any of our employees. We will be submitting the details of your review to the location senior management team so this can be addressed.
Avis strives to provide a mechanically sound, well-maintained fleet, and the condition you described is not typical. We forecast vehicle availability based on how vehicles are scheduled to return. Several circumstances could cause inventory issues such as vehicles being extended, not returned on time or as agreed, returned to a different location, or breakdowns. We do our best to accommodate every rental but sometimes if vehicles aren't returned when they are scheduled, it causes us to be short on vehicles and unable to supply an exchange as a result. We do confirm that the location management was made aware of this situation and a full refund was submitted to the billing team on the 11th of September. Adjustments will typically process within 72 hours of the closure of a rental contract and we apologize that we cannot expedite this process; an updated receipt will be made available to you upon completion.
Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.

1 starI wish I had read the BBB Reviews first. I bought all the insurance. I always do. The car was broken into and I lost everything, including my computer and business clothes. They denied the claim even though I went through the whole process. Though I have to say that their process was a joke. The person handling the claim forgot what company she was working for and answered for a hospital. My appeal was just returned to me. **************** said that they would look into it and get back to me. They never got back to me. Avis is absolutely worthless. I will never ever rent from them again. I am still so angry, nearly a year later.Avis Rent A Car

1 starThe car we just rented blew a tire on the interstate. No owners manual, no spare tire, no can of foam to plug tire. Made it to local tire shop, and both rear tires were completely worn to the point where the threads were exposed. Had to borrow a car and drive 20 miles to pickup 2 new tires to replace. This was a minivan and a clear safety issue. Really negligence on the part of Avis for ever renting a car with tires in this condition. If you have no choice to rent from Avis, check tires before you leave and make sure the car has a spare tire.Avis Rent A Car

1 starNEVER RENT A CAR FROM AVIS! PLEASE! Save yourself the hassle. This company has hands down THE WORST customer service I've ever experienced in my life and that is coming from someone who worked as a manager in customer service for 7+ years!!! We rented a car in ******, staff gave us a car that they even said themselves isn't reliable. It was driven ONCE and broke down on the side of the highway.. LOTS of black smoke and leaking oil.. car was about to BLOW UP. We were stranded on the side of the highway for 5+ HOURS with no water, food or bathroom.. police officers had to help us. Avis sent us the opposite direction to an office that was CLOSED. Missed a train we bought tickets for a month in advance. Currently been fighting Avis for over 2 MONTHS and still NO resolution or refund for this nightmare. Extremely disgusted by this company.Avis Rent A Car

1 starMy nightmare with avis started August 9, 2024. I rented a vehicle for one way from ************ to ********* **. A week later I see charges on my credit card that were not accurate. I called the avis 1800 number and was told the extra charges were because I didn't refuel the vehicle (which I did) and I dropped it off at a different location. (Which I didn't) I was told that I had to get the discrepancy fixed threw the avis in *****. I have called over 100 times and no answer. I called the Boston Avis to see if they can tell me where the vehicle physically was and I was told it was in *****. I reimbursed the fuel charge since I had credit card recipient form Texas. I was told I would have to do my own investigation and show proof of dropping the vehicle off in ***** to get reimbursement of the $150.00 drop off fee. This has been a horrible experience. I have put in a fraud claim on my credit card for the additional charges that are not accurate. Avis has shown me that they really don't care about good customer service and satisfaction.Avis Rent A Car
