Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention and we appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns in a timely fashion.
CarShield  requested that the Administrator of your Vehicle Service Contract, ********************, examine your claim based on the review you have provided. The claim was reviewed by the Legal Claims Director for ***, an ASE-Certified Master Mechanic, and the results of this investigation have concluded that  your claim was adjudicated correctly in accordance with the terms and exclusions of the Vehicle Service Contract ("VSC").

Upon review of your file, it was discovered that your vehicle was brought in with several smaller repairs. However, upon review of your vehicle's information and records, it was found that the inception miles provided by you from time of sale was incorrect by over 100K miles.

As stated within your contract, The administrator may immediately cancel this contract for misrepresentation by you when purchasing this contract. After finding the correct miles for time of sale it was determined that your vehicle was ineligible for new coverage of this type due to the miles and your VSC was cancelled. Following Cancellation, you have charged back over four monthly payments as a refund. As your previous claim authorizations, and chargebacks far exceed what has been paid into your contract, there will be no refund due.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 05/12/2025

I am rejecting the business response because:

they were still taking money out of my checking account without me knowing that my car would not get repaired. They took out $209.98 a month for coverage for the past 8 months.  All I want is my refund.

    Business Response

    Date: 05/13/2025

As stated in our previous response, following Cancellation, you have charged back over four monthly payments as a refund. As your previous claim authorizations equate to over $2500, and your chargebacks far exceed what has been paid into your contract, there will be no refund due.

Engine failure due to bad oil pump no engine light came on to alert driver of condition they denied claim saying we are only covering $2049.00 not ***** which is cost of engine after oil pump stopped working they are only looking at what they want to deny claims not the truth !

CarShield  requested that the Administrator of your Vehicle Service Contract examine your claim based on the review you have provided. The claim was reviewed by the Legal Claims Director for ***, an ASE-Certified Master Mechanic, and the results of this investigation have concluded that  your claim was adjudicated correctly in accordance with the terms and exclusions of the Vehicle Service Contract ("VSC").

Upon review of your file, it was discovered that your vehicle was towed into the repair facility with an active check engine light. Upon inspection, it was found that Diagnostic Trouble Codes were stored for internal failure to the oil pump and metal debris was found with in the engine and filter. This indicates catastrophic failure sending metal debris through out the system. Freeze frame data was pulled to show that the check engine like had been on for over 400 miles prior to being towed into the repair facility indicating continued operation.

As stated within your contract, you are to take immediate action to prevent further damage to your vehicle. This contract will not cover repairs for damage caused by continued operation after a breakdown has occurred. Your claim for engine replacement has been denied in accordance with the clause of continued operation within your VSC.

******************** has authorized $2447.07 to your repair facility toward your claim. This authorization will stand. However, due to the combination of both your claim authorization and previous claims paid exceeding what has been paid into your contract, there will be no further refund due.

I took my car in for repairs and a claim was filed by ******* ********** on 4/3/2025. The claim was immediately denied because no failure code could be provided even though my car shot warnings of overheating and had to be towed into the shop. I requested a rental car due to the extended time and back and forth calls as that is something covered on my policy. I was denied a car and told that a claim had to be approved before a rental car could be arranged.
After numerous attempts to be connected to a supervisor (who never called) I filed an appeal. I called to get a status on that appeal and was told "sorry, there is no appeal on file." I got in contact with an adjuster with the car shop on the phone. The adjuster stated that they would have to do a "tear down" to prove that the thermostat needed to be replaced. Per those demands, ******* went ahead and did just that. Day of, they sent the photos of the damage and requested approval for a part that is covered under my policy. Instead of an approval, they denied my claim, AGAIN. Now stating that because the thermostat was removed from the vehicle, they wouldn't cover the part. ******* followed the exact instructions that the adjuster gave over the phone, on a recorded line, with both myself and the car shop on the line.
I again requested a call back because the claim was with escalations. I was contacted by ****** who was able to get me a rental car for a week while my case was reviewed by escalations. I have had the car for 6 days as of today.
******* and myself called Carshield again and spent hours of our time on hold and speaking with an adjuster who reviewed the case from beginning to end and stated "oh yeah, we dropped the ball." The claim was FINALLY approved - this is for a COVERED PART on my policy. A month of back and forth and inappropriate denials. Now that the claim is approved after being inappropriately denied and ignored, the shop can start to work on the repairs. I called and requested an extension of the rental car while the repairs are being done and was denied that too. When speaking to "customer service" I am read the same line like a parrot. I request to speak to a supervisor or someone like ****** that can review my case and see that Carshield is responsible for the delays and distress and no one provides any assistance. I am completely fed up with this company and their lack of abiding by a contract that I have with them. I am requesting to be contacted. No customer should have to go to this extreme for a part that is covered by the policy. I pay every month along with a deductible for this coverage and they have not followed the policy.
I am requesting my deductible for this service to be covered 100%. I am requesting an extension or reimbursement for my rental car. I am requesting a refund of this month's premium.

CarShield  requested that the Administrator of your Vehicle Service Contract examine your claim based on the review you have provided. The claim was reviewed by the Legal Claims Director for AAS, an ASE-Certified Master Mechanic, and the results of this investigation have concluded that  your claim was adjudicated correctly in accordance with the terms and exclusions of the Vehicle Service Contract ("VSC").

As stated within your contract, your VSC does not provide coverage nor compensation for loss of time or convenience.
Upon reivew of your file it was discovered that your initial claim was originally submitted for an AC compressor and a line on 2/10/25 and was authorized the same day. On 4/3, your repair facility advised of a new potential failure, and were informed that the water inlet housing was not a component listed for coverage.  On 4/8, the repair facility called once more now looking for coverage on the thermostat with no trouble codes present. The repair facility did not provide a cause of failure. As stated within your coverage, your VSC does not provide coverage for recommended components for replacement. The claim was correctly denied.

Following the denial, your repair facility submitted photo's of the thermostat to prove cause of failure a week and a half later and your claim was then authorized upon the review of the images. Per the terms and conditions of your VSC, your rental was authorized to the maximum amount allowed within your VSC. A more extensive list of terms and exclusions may be located within your VSC.

CarShield has no contractual obligation to refund you for loss of time due to your repair facility being unable to present a cause of failure in a timely fashion. As your contract has paid out over $5500.00, far exceeding what has been paid into your contract, there will be no refund due.

    Complaint: ********

I have reviewed the business' response and am rejecting it because: they have provided no resolution. It should not take myself and my mechanic a month and hours on the phone trying to speak to someone. The adjuster required pictures of the thermostat which did show failure and the mechanic provided those photos within one day. Due to this failure that was declined, the water inlet system was damaged and was also denied. It is very poor business and lack of customer service to take over a month to approve a claim for an APPROVED part with proof of failure. I do not need someone to parrot the exact same story to me. I’ve spent hours on the phone for that. Additionally, I was told to file and appeal for the denial, which I did as instructed. I received zero response and when I called to follow up, conveniently, they had no record of it. I was told a supervisor would call within 24-48 hours on numerous occasions with zero call back. I have never worked with a company that is so incompetent or neglectful. A month of time and frustration for a $430 repair that is within my contract.

    Sincerely,

Carshield and your administrator, American Auto Shield, are open to and willing to work with any repair facility that you select.  However, each repair facility is able to determine who they
wish to do business with as well. Unfortunately, your preferred dealership has not chosen to accept your coverage. Upon review of your file, it was found on 4/23/25, you were informed of several repair facility's that are willing to do business with your coverage, and are apart of the ShieldRepair Network. BBB Business Profiles are provided solely to assist you in exercising your own best judgment. BBB asks third parties who publish complaints, reviews and/or responses on this website to affirm that the information provided is accurate. However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.

BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.

As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
