Carshield lies about covering repairs on major car parts. All the pretty commercials could not be further from the truth. Their contract is not transparent. They have a secret list of parts they will cover and keep this list concealed from the customer. Even if you request the covered parts list, they deny you access. Even when your part is covered, the name of the part must match the name Carshield calls the part on their approved list of parts. If the repair shop does not submit that exact name (even if it is the SAME PART), Carshield will DENY, DENY and DENY AGAIN until you give up. After 3 repairs that I had to fight with Carshield EACH AND EVERY TIME, even having to send them photos of the parts and diagrams to prove to them they were covered. I recently had enough and decided to cancel their coverage when I found out they also give the car repair shops the same or worse runaround and actually NEVER PAID MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP FOR THE LAST REPAIR THAT WAS APPROVED! In fact, I can no longer find a local repair shop that will take the Carshield warranty, because they tell me Carshield doesnt pay them and if they do, it takes months of fighting with them and jumping through hoops to finally get paid. What this company is doing is criminal! How in the world can they maintain an AAA rating from the BBB? Something is wrong here. If something stinks this bad, there is always a 4-day old carp somewhere in the room!Seniors who have to count their pennies are being taken advantage of by dishonest companies like Carshield, who use high pressure and promises they never intend to keep. When you call to cancel, they put you on 30 minute holds and demand to know why you are cancelling over and over again, then transfer you to a higher pressure salesperson who grills you with the same we wont take no for an answer questions, until you scream at them to confirm cancellation. If you are considering Carshield, turn around and run! Dont look back!!

    Ms. ******,
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention and we appreciate the opportunity to respond.
CarShield  requested that the Administrator of your Vehicle Service Contract examine your claim based on the correspondence you have provided. The claim was reviewed by the Legal Claims Director for ***, an ASE-Certified Master Mechanic, and the results of this investigation have concluded that  your claim was adjudicated correctly in accordance with the terms and exclusions of the Vehicle Service Contract ("VSC").

CarShield provides a wide variety of coverage for many of your vehicle service contract repair needs. However, your *** does not provide coverage for repair facility part and labor pricing mark **** taxes, shop supplies, and components that are excluded/not listed for coverage within your contract. A more extensive list of terms and exclusions may be located within your contract within the "GENERAL EXCLUSIONS" Section.

Upon review of your file, it was discovered that your Administrator, ********************, authorized a one time payment to you in the amount of $437.66 as a courtesy to help alleviate some out of pocket cost's associated with claim 2507343. This claim was denied due to the concern being a component not listed for coverage. This one time payment was made to you on 8/19/24. Furthermore, ******************** has authorized over $2500.00 in claims toward your vehicle's repairs within the duration of contract MRF4839722. As the  the claim payout exceeds what has been paid into your contract, there will be no refund due.

    Complaint: 23426788

I have reviewed the business' response and am rejecting it because:

The Carshield ***resentative that I spoke with earlier, confirmed that my repair shop in 2024 was never paid their share of the repair because "they did not complete the required paperwork in order to be paid".  This is why we cannot find ***utable repair shops that will accept the Carshield warranty service.  They refuse, citing the hoops they must jump through to receive payment, if payment is ever given.

On paper, Carshield paid my claim, but not after hours of back and forth arguments about the COVERED TRANSMISSION PART.  Then, they did not pay the shop.

I have had to argue my case with this company EACH AND EVERY TIME I have had a repair done.  This must stop.

The list of covered parts Carshield speaks about in their answer (which they state is in my contract), is a short, vague list.  I want transparency.  I want a list of each and every part covered by your service and what name you are calling it.   I am tired of the repair shop calling in a claim and having the phone *** "check the list" and deny coverage based on a part that I do not see as uncovered on my contract.

Carshield cannot deny my coverage based on what they may have paid out (on paper) in their system.  I already know the repair shop did not get paid what they were supposed to (and were approved to) get paid.

I stand firm on my initial comments about the warranty service.  Carshield has offered $10 off my future monthly payments to reinstate my contract.  I have accepted their offer and will give them one more try.

    Sincerely,

    ****** ******

Your coverage was not determined based on how much ******************** has paid in claims. Our previous response stated their was no REFUND due to the amount paid in previous claims.  Meaning ******************** has paid more in claims that you have paid into the contract so there is refund.

We see that your contract was cancelled at your request on June 2, 2025. We are sorry to lose you as a customer.

As American Auto Shield (aka Carshield) confirmed in their response, and I quote, "their was no REFUND due to the amount paid in previous claims.  Meaning ******************** has paid more in claims that you have paid into the contract so there is refund."

I was not asking for a refund, but thanks.

I have had this coverage now for many years.  I suppose if this would have been my first claim, it may have been approved on your "parts list".  This game you are playing is like a slot machine.  However, your payout does not come from the random individual customer, but from the millions of customers who also play the game by buying into your television ads stating that you cover the major repairs, when you really don't cover them completely.  That is need to know information.

American Auto Shield's confirmed response also explains the strategy used by their ***** who are taught to DENY most, if not all, items in every claim.  For example, when my water pump went out, the pump froze up causing the belt to snap.  They covered only the water pump, but not the belt (among other small incidental parts) that completed the repair.  They advertise that they cover transmission repairs, however, the parts encompassing the "transmission" are NOT ALL COVERED.  They will nit pick through the claim leaving you owing the $200 deductible, plus most of the parts that hold the transmission together, which could be thousands.  How, in anyone's mind, is this honest and proper?

AND, this doesn't even account for having to call a tow truck.  There are listed amounts the customer is allowed on the "Contract" for a tow, which apparently do not come close to covering a tow anywhere.  When you call for a tow, the American Auto Shield operator will come back on the line and ask, "are you willing to pay an additional $75-$150 for the tow because I cannot find anyone to do it for our price."  The cheaper you choose, the longer you wait.  At that point, do you have a choice?  I had this happen to me in a hot, Texas parking lot during the summer.

I remain a CarShield contract customer hoping to make a change in their overly strict and "discreet covered parts list" policy.  I don't normally get this bent out of shape, but when my button is pushed, I will let you know how I feel.  Car Shield, keep your money, just approve the covered repair - all of it.

    Sincerely,
    ****** ******

As a side note, I have no record of receiving a courtesy payment from American Auto Shield of $437.66, as they state.

After posting this last piece of information, this case may be closed as long as my concerns are made available for public view.

I have had multiple contracts with Car Shield and I have been trying to get them to repair my vehicle correctly for over four months. The mechanic shop gave their estimate with recommended repairs. I had to call multiple times to even get someone to review and call me back. They were dishonest in their initial inspection and recommendation. They have refused to do the repairs as recommended by the repair shop. They basicily said that I had no recourse. All I want is for them to repair the vehicle correctly.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/06/2025

CarShield  requested that the Administrator of your Vehicle Service Contract examine your claim(s) based on the correspondence you have provided. The claim was reviewed by the Legal Claims Director for ***, an ASE-Certified Master Mechanic, and the results of this investigation have concluded that claim(s) 2639242 and 2639231 were adjudicated correctly in accordance with the terms and exclusions of the Vehicle Service Contract ("VSC").

Upon review of your file, it was discovered that several items submitted for coverage were shown by inspection to have not been failed or are components not listed for coverage within your VSC. As stated within your contract, any part that has not broken or failed, even if a repair facility has recommended repair or replacement are deemed excluded from coverage. Upon inspection, the engine mount(s) concerns were not found to have failed, and would not be eligible for coverage as your VSC does not provide coverage for "betterment" of components without a verification of failure. Additionally, several components were found to not be listed for coverage that were submitted for review, including but not limited to: fog lamp bulbs, a cracked air cleaner box, and both front struts.

On May 27th, CarShield took car to *********** for a transmission service. They told me they don&#**; t work on transmissions. I paid $137.67 to have a tow truck send the car to another auto shop. That ****** Auto they also said that they don&#**;t work on transmissions. I paid a tow truck again $127 to have them tow the vehicle back to my residence. I had paid $700 on a rental car since May 26th. CarShield even told me that I wouldn&#**;t receive another rental car unless a diagnostic is run on the vehicle, but the auto shops they sent my car could not perform the services I needed. I feel that CarShield is not taking care of the service of my car.

In April 2024 I purchased extended warranty coverage for my 2016 **** F150. I was sent a packet which included my contract and all endorsements to that contract. The information sent to me is original from April of 2024 and I have the original mailing envelope which is postmarked 4/17/2024. My truck recently broke down and I need a turbo-charger replaced. I took my booklet to my mechanic as per the instructions provided, when he called them to initiate a claim Carshield advised him that my coverage was "Silver" and many items would not be covered in my claim. We both have contested that the contract I have in my possession does in fact state that I have the coverage plan "Monthly Powertrain". This contract also states that, "This DIAMOND COVERAGE CONTRACT encompasses the Repair of Replacement of ALL ****************** of YOUR VEHICLE Except for the Items Listed in the Breakdown Coverage Endorsement of this CONTRACT. The contract continues on to list a "SMALL SAMPLE" of some of the parts covered in this contract. Included is, "TURBO-CHARGER: All internally lubricated parts of the vehicle manufacturer installed turbo-charger or supercharger. The housing is covered ONLY if damaged by the failure of a lubricated internal part." Carshield refuses to honor the DIAMOND COVERAGE I was lead to believe that I had purchased which is clearly outlined in this contract. I have made several attempts to contact them and have escalated those calls to include speaking to a supervisor. They refuse to allow me to speak to a supervisor immediately, stating their policy is to put my name on a call-back list to be contacted in ***** hours. There has been no resolution as of now and I am forced to pay to have my truck repaired with the coverage "THEY" will allow. I would like the DIAMOND COVERAGE honored and the repair paid for as the contract reads.

Consistently finding ways to not cover your car. Sorry to tell you build up on engines happen. If I take my car in for regular service then I should be covered no matter the reason the engine went bad especially if I can prove that I keep up with my car and the oil changes. This the second time theyve denied me the first time my car was messed up due to electrical issues and they said well because we think it was caused by this we cant cover it. They do not provide any picture proof damages nor do they even call the client about status of claim. You have to call them everyday just to get an answer. Ive paid over ***** for a car that was only suppose to be ***** and I cant even get REAL warranty coverage. They promote fast reliable service but dont cover the majority of damages that actually can happen. Claim was initially denied because they said it was an old engine give them new receipt then they say we waiting on this person when theres a whole shop of techs. Then basically have to do their job for them. Not only have they denied my claim but also my fathers over some BS excuse and he had to pay $900 for a transmission. Also a lot of body shops are not taking car shield because they are using old/used parts instead of new parts.

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention and for the opportunity to respond. American Auto Shield ("AAS") administers repair claims brought under vehicle service contracts (contract) sold by CarShield.

The claim at issue related to your complaint was reviewed by an AAS Senior Legal Claims Specialist (Specialist), who is an ASE-Certified Master Mechanic.  Based upon all available information we have been informed your claim decision is currently pending inspection review and estimate from repair facility.  Per the Inspection review there is a hole in the engine block with associated low oil level and lack of maintenance shown with oil in poor condition and run low condition due to long term oil leaks and continued operation with lack of necessary amounts of required oil would be directly related to the rod bearing failure shown and would all be exclusions to coverage.

As there is no decision made at this time, your claim will follow normal claims process for adjudication with claim noted for movement.  If you have any additional questions regarding your claim, please contact AAS directly at ************. As the contract administrator and obligated party under the contract, they will be happy to answer any additional claim questions you may have.

No help at all, delaying repairs for longer than youre willing to cover for a rental or rideshare services, then sending used and rebuilt or used items for the clients vehicle. Which that in itself is problematic because why do you want your clients riding around with potential hazards because your company wants to be cheap and not logical. There is no excuse for the lack luster I continue to receive in regards to my means of making money and supporting my day to day life which has been affected. I just paid $1000 for this car and its STILL NOT FIXED. Yall have no excuse and at this point I want my car fixed for free because Im losing $1000 of dollars by the day due to not being able to go to my clients when they need me because of your NEGLIGENCE. For the past two years, I have received persistent and unwanted marketing emails from Car Shield Company. These emails occur multiple times per day and have accumulated into several thousand messages, despite my repeated efforts to unsubscribe and block them.Details of the Issue:Car Shield ompany appears to use deceptive practices to continue spamming customers. Specifically, they frequently change the sending email address, making it impossible to effectively block or filter the messages. This behavior suggests a deliberate attempt to bypass spam filters and avoid consumer control over email communications.I have never consented to receive this volume of communication, and my attempts to unsubscribe have had no impact. The relentless email spamming has been disruptive, frustrating, and is clearly not aligned with ethical marketing practices.Resolution Sought:I am requesting that Car Shield Company immediately cease all email communication with me, including any messages sent from alternate or rotating email addresses. I also ask that they provide confirmation that my contact information has been removed from all of their mailing lists and databases.Additionally, I would like the BBB to investigate this business for potential violations of consumer protection or email marketing laws.?Let me know if youd like to include screenshots, specific dates, or email addresses involved these details can help strengthen your complaint.

On a notice dated 5/15/2025, CarShield indicates that I have not contacted them to extend the warranty on a vehicle which I do not now, nor have I ever owned. This is false and forceful advertising, as most people would feel compelled to contact this company for clarification, since they are being asked about a vehicle that they do not own. This company has horrible reviews due to thier horrendous business practices so it appears that predatory advertising is what they have turned to. Companies such as this should not be allowed to operate.

CarShield refused to cover a repair on my vehicle even though the part in question is clearly listed as covered in my contract. Both I and the repair shop pointed this out to them, and the shop even explained the issue in detail. Despite this, CarShield argued with both of us and still denied the claim without a valid reason. This was for a different car than any prior issues Ive had. Their handling of the situation was unprofessional, dismissive, and completely ignored the terms of the agreement I signed. I am filing this complaint to report that CarShield is not honoring their contract, and I believe this is unfair and deceptive to customers.I am asking the ******************** to investigate this matter and help resolve it.

Upon review of your file, it was discovered that inspection photos and repair facility provided photo shows there was extreme intermix of engine oil and coolant in the crankcase as it appeared on the dipstick. Your repair facility also advised that the head gasket failed and caused the head or block to warp or crack. Your claim was correctly and partially authorized for repair to the head gasket due to damage of the cylinder head and engine block not being caused by a lubricated moving component of the engine. Based on the complete mixture of coolant and engine oil, there was likely continued operation after the headgasket failed. Inspection also showed the coolant level to be full and the coolant reservoir showed no signs of intermix. This would be an indicator that the coolant was refilled at some point after the initial breakdown. As stated within your contract, you VSC does not provide coverage the the Engine Block, Cylinder Heads, and Oil Pan unless damaged by a moving covered part of the Engine. A more extensive list of terms and exclusions may be located within your VSC.

Your Administrator, ********************, has authorized $1,076.32 toward your claim, and this has been paid to your repair facility. However, due to the number of claims that have been paid versus what has been paid into your contract, there will be no refund due.

I have a silver agreement with this company and I had insufficient funds in my account. They keep tryna charge me for the agreement but its for a lesser amount than agreed. My banking institution is letting the charge go through without penalty but the merchant is putting in the incorrect information to settle the debt to keep charging me for something they could have been paid for already. I know its them because they mentioned that what they do. This occurred between 2025-05-28 and 2025-05-30
