My daughter signed up for online tutoring for one month for $579.00 using my **************** Credit Card. I was charged for that month and when her tutoring was up Varsity Tutors kept charging me monthly. On her account page it shows the following after I recently cancelled: All-Inclusive Learning Program Grades 6+ 8 Tutoring Hours/Month $579/month *Hours expire monthly Membership TermSep 2023 - Oct 2023 Varsity Tutors kept charging me until I caught is this morning, called and informed them to cancel our account. We received no mailing receipts, email receipts depicting we were in fact paying each month. There were no hours used from OCT 23 to AUG 24. Transaction date July 5th $276 which is the billing date . Beware of this company. I purchased a 4 session package for $369 over the phone with a representative from this company. I told them I dont want any contract, and I want the 4 session package for one month ONLY. I specifically mentioned I am not engaging in any contracts or recurring billing. He assured me I would only be charged for one month and there is no contract. I paid them for that month. When I finished that month, I checked my bank statement and noticed I was charged again for the next month. Absolutely unacceptable for any business to scam their customers like that. I called ********************** and they said they cant refund it because their package is recurring, but on the phone they said it wasnt!! I also had a tutor who disconnected and it told me theyd reconnect, I ended up waiting for the tutor for over 10 mins and they never showed up. They used this to keep charging me for the time wasted!! How frustrating. I was going to use them again in the future, but now I never will. If they cant value customer service, that shows you the kind of company they are. They are stealing money from your pockets. Never will trust a ***** with these guys again. I have people who were willing to sign up with varsity tutoring, I will tell them my story and Ill also get the people who are receiving tutoring to get their services elsewhere. This company deserves nothing. Bunch of crooks. If they dont refund me my money, I will be taking legal action against them. I am already in the process. My time at Varsity Tutors was a harrowing one. They allow you to be a tutor with no knowledge or tutorial of the platform. The instant red flag was they offer you a base amount but offer you client or client groups that pay lower than that amount. My base was $20. For most of my clients, they paid me $15/an hour.Next they do not pay you for your time doing ****** planning and mine usually took me 4-5 hours to do each week especially when I had 32 hours of classes.I took the job because a chronic pain issue left me virtually disabled and unable to work my regular job.My schedule was S-F with no class on Saturday.They forces me multiple times to change my hours of availability to meet their business needs.My time u2at Varsity ended in April when they sent me a termination email stating I was terminated from Varsity Tutors for Schools opportunitys which means they began taking my classes away one by one until I was left with only 2 clients. From here during my last month in June, they locked my account and I was working for free. In that month, I was due over $700 and they wouldn't release my money.From here and because I work for an in person tutoring company, I started my own tutoring business with the same model as varsity Tutors but convient for me and my scheduling needs around doctor ************ and the like.Business Response

Varsity Tutors was misleading that made it easier for them to elicit the collection of money for the service in advance before the the terms of the contract was made available and without knowing other conditions to the contract and nothing was said in the conversation about a contract document that was included before they demanded payment with a credit card over the phone before the contract was sent by email later. It was deceptive by Varsity Tutor agent by keeping the information about a contract that had to be signed before the collection of credit card payment. They collected my credit card information and processed it long before the contract was sent for me to be familiar. Secondly, the process for registering online for the tutoring session was impossible. I was unable to log on for the tutoring session after several attempts. I originally paid $819.00 for just 8 hours and I was not aware of a contract to consent to a subscription plan. I was not notified about any confirmation for tutoring session also I'm tutors dont work on weekends. Before the next billing cycle I tried to remove my credit card however the company did not let me and required me to contact the Bank. When i saw they billed $1,433 on my credit card account, I called the bank and they settled the dispute in my favor and they removed the charge, weeks later they reposted the amount because the company said this charge was valid. I only consented for 8 hours of tutoring and not 14 hours. This company is a thug criminal money stealing company.Business Response

I still have not gotten back my refund of ***** which I was not aware of, i only paid ****** just one time for 8hours, I was not aware of any contract signed nor was I aware of the fact that I was unable to pull my card out of the account since they took my card and took advantage of me. I will only accept this settlement only if they are willing to refund me the *****. Also I never received such confirmation or correspondence of any advanced notice before the billing.

You can do everything through their online platform except to cancel a subscription plan. They require you to call and talk to a person. My options when i logged into my account were to pay for 500 dollars, 800 dollars or keep my 9.99 subscription for access to online learning on their platform. When I called I waited over 30 minutes for the phone to pick up, I got on the chat system and the person said I see you waiting on the phone. it would help if you kept waiting on the phone. When they picked up, they asked if i was canceling due to a bad tutor so that they could take money away from them. I said the tutor was great, but i canceled needing them over 6 months ago. I am submitting this formal complaint against Varsity Tutors for unresolved issues regarding service dissatisfaction and unauthorized charges. My eighth-grade daughter enrolled in Varsity Tutors' services in September 2023, but the experience significantly failed to meet our expectations. Due to unsatisfactory interactions with the tutors and the teaching format, she used the service only twice before we decided to discontinue it.I instructed my daughter to cancel the subscription immediately, which she confirmed was completed. However, upon reviewing my bank statements, I discovered that I have been continuously charged for eight months, from October 2023 through June 2024, despite not using their services.When I contacted Varsity Tutors to address this issue, I was simply directed to the terms and conditions and was refused a refund. Their only offer was to roll over one hour of unused time, which is inadequate and unacceptable given the situation. This has led me to believe that continuing to charge customers after they have attempted to cancel could be part of the companys business model.Given these circumstances, I request the BBBs assistance in obtaining a full refund for the charges made after the supposed cancellation of our service. This matter raises serious concerns about Varsity Tutors billing practices and customer service quality.Thank you for your attention to this matter.
