I placed an order to Christianbook.com Tue, June 25, 2024 for the amount of $26.48 order number ************ MA. It was posted on my charge card Wed, June 26, 2024. I just recently discovered that I have been charged by this company $16.95 a month for 8 months starting on June 20, 2024. That's a total of $135.60 supposedly for Christianbook rewards that I didn't sign up for. I order very little from this business. I would never sign up for something this ridiculous. I believe this is designed as a scam and would like for the business to refund the full amount that has been taken from my *********** account in a very suspicious and sneaky way. I immediately deactivated my credit card because of this. It's strange to me that my order was placed on June 25, ********************************* the $16.95 on June 20th, 2024. Businesses which pull these kind of underhanded tricks should be held accountable.Business Response

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback about our Christianbook Rewards program. We genuinely apologize for any confusion regarding the Christianbook Rewards program and that it wasn't clear to you that you had opted to enroll in the 30-day free trial after completing your purchase on May 21. This is not an auto-enrollment program.
It's important to us that our offerings are clear and beneficial for our customers so we try to send email periodically about your membership status so that you're aware of your active enrollment--we're sorry you missed those.
When you placed your order with us, on May 21, we presented an offer to receive a rebate on your order. It asked for you to provide your email address and click on the join button and explained that after the 30-day free trial there is a $16.95 monthly fee for Christianbook Rewards.
Since we weren't aware that you were in the program we'll make sure that your account has been cancelled and will ensure that you're refunded for any charges that were posted to your account for your ********************** Rewards membership.
Please know that your concerns will be shared with the right team for further evaluation. We deeply appreciate your trust in us, and we are committed to ensuring a better experience for you in the future.Initial Complaint

Placed an order to Christianbook.com 01/21/24 (order # *********) for some cards. The cards were received as expected. Have just recently found that for the months following this purchase we have been charged ***** each month for christianbook rewards which we did not sign up for. We think this is a scam and would like a refund for these charges. I called them to stop the charges but they did not offer to refund what has been paid in over these months, Feb 2024 to Jan 2025. Total of $203.40.Business Response

I just now have noticed a recurring charge of $16.95 through my card ending in 9864. These began monthly, since January 4, 2024. I did not sign up for, nor do I receive any benefits from a monthly charge through CHRISTIANBOOK.I did, however, order from them for Christmas last December 2023.Business Response

I purchased a book at Christianbooks and paid for it using my credit card So during the purchase not at my request the company slipped in a rewards program which is just a grift for ***** per month where if you dont cancel (which I never asked for or signed up for) you end up paying. We had a death in the family which caused me to not pay attention to charges on the credit card but I finally got back to checking my statement and saw I had been paying this charge for a year to this fine CHRISTIAN company I spoke to them about today and closed the bogus account and stopped my December payment from paying out This is a fraud being perpetrated on unsuspecting families and I am a retired woman who could use the money they were in my mind stealing from me to buy groceries I really need to hopefully get a refund from them so we will seeBusiness Response

Purchased a digital download on 11/21 that was supposedly an instant download. Paid instantly via ****** invoice W239894627 Transaction ID *****************. The advertised digital product is supposed to contain 4 videos, but only one was provided. I can't get anyone to return my call or even answer my simple question "Where is my download?". They are very quick to charge, but very slow to deliver. Very disappointing for a business that uses Christianity's name. The name of the product on the website is "The Case for Christmas: All 4 Video Sessions [Video Download]" which is misleading as you are only getting 1 video session.Business Response

Thanks for leaving us feedback about your experience purchasing digital downloads. Our downloads are made available right away once an order was placed and we see that all four were attempted to be downloaded on November 22 and that after you chatted us on November 23 we were able to reset the downloads for you and our chat agent reported that you were able to successfully download the files so we assumed this issue was resolved.
If you need any additional assistance, please let us know and we'd be glad to help!

I purchased a Bible from Christianbook.com last month. This month, I noticed a $16.95 charge to my credit card from Christianbook.com. When I called, I was told, to my great surprise, that I was enrolled in a $16.95/month rewards program. I asked to be un-enrolled and to be refunded for the $16.95 charge, and the merchant did both. Heres my complaint (apparently shared by other customers who filed complaints with the *********************: whatever mechanism Christianbook.com used to sign us up for these recurrent charges was deceptive. I would never knowingly agree to a $16.95 recurrent monthly charge for a rewards program. Its hard to imagine any individual customer who would. I check my orders carefully. On their website, after the fact, is no way that I can see to easily view this rewards program. Presumably, it pops up in a deceptive and innaparent way only when checking out.Business Response
