I've been purchasing books for my family from this store, and I wish that before ordering, there had been a note that the item was not in stock. For my last purchase, I wanted to exchange the books I received. I called several times to ensure I'd get an exchange, not a refund. I also stated in their form that I wanted an exchange. The day I called to confirm they received my return, I said again that I wanted an exchange and asked if it could be mailed out with another order I had placed. The same day, I got an email saying I was getting a refund. When I made the original purchase, it wasn't with my card. Now I have to wait for the refund, and I don't know if the person who let me borrow her card will give me the money back. I don't have $100 to buy the curriculum. The only thing they said was that they were sorry. What good does that do?Business Response

Thank you for alerting us to our oversight in processing the return for your order. We are sorry that the return credit was done rather than the exchange order that you requested. We are emailing you a Christianbook gift card for the refund amount of $100.68 so that you can use it to place the exchange order. Please accept our apologies once again for the error and the inconvenience it has caused you.

My wife purchased some books for my kids for Easter 2024. She made the purchase in February of 2024 and somehow got signed up for their Christian book subscription service for $15. We discovered it today (August 11th) She didnt opt into the program, I dont care what they report. Unfortunately we were taken for hundreds of dollars. How unfortunate they are a Christian representing company and are sneakily taking advantage of people.Business Response

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback about our Christianbook Rewards program. We genuinely apologize for any confusion regarding the Christianbook Rewards program and that it wasn't clear to your wife that she had opted to enroll in the 30-day free trial after completing your purchase. It's important to us that our offerings are clear and beneficial for our customers so we send periodic emails every month about your membership status so that you're aware of your active enrollment--we're sorry you missed those. Additionally, you should have received a couple of postcards that we mailed to members regarding their membership status.
Our Christianbook Rewards program is not an auto-enrollment program, which means that members have to opt into the program. When she placed her order with us, we presented an offer to receive a rebate on your order. It asked for her to provide your email address, check a box stating that she agreed to the automatic billing and renewal details, and click on the join button and explained that after the 30-day free trial there is a monthly fee for Christianbook Rewards.
I've confirmed that your account has been cancelled and will ensure that you're refunded for any charges that were posted to your account for your ********************** Rewards membership.
Please know that your concerns will be shared with the right team for further evaluation. We deeply appreciate your trust in us, and we are committed to ensuring a better experience for you in the future.Initial Complaint

On 4/21/2025 I ordered one time from ****************** and was automatically charged $16,95 per month for a subscription after a 30-day trial period. I have been charged a total of $50.95 for the Months of May, June, and July of 2025. I did not ask for the service, nor was I notified that I was being charged for the service that I did not want. I just want the charges stopped and a refund for the three months paid up to this point.Business Response

Hello, Unfortunately, my husband and I just noticed that we have been billed the membership fee since March of 2024...18 payments. This is our error for not noticing as he is the one who looks at the credit card account and he just assumed I was buying books or something and so he didnt think much of it. But I honestly did not intend to become a member...again my error for not reading carefully or something but this is quite ridiculous to be enrolled into a membership while not being aware that I did so in the first place. I certainly dont recall wanting to be a member by any means. I have not taken advantage of being a member as I didn't even know I was one! Of course I desire a refund for all the payment that was taken for a membership that I didnt intended to partake in nor did I take advantage of. I hope customer service can understand this frustration and be of help. I've read that others have had the same problem as I am having so it seems like something needs to be changed and written more clearly so that customers aren't making this mistake. It shouldn't be too "simple" or easy to become a member...it should be intentional and clearly directed if someone wants to be a member. I dont use this site regularly enough to benifit from such a membership. Emails from these sites clutter inboxes and go directly to spam, further proving my point that it is not clear or easy to notice unless one is looking for such emails which most people arent especially when they are not aware that they are members.Business Response

I purchased a book online back in June of 2024. They said that I signed up for there Christian **** Rewards program by checking a box on the order. Like many other individuals who have filed a complaint against this company for the exact same reason, I did not elect to join the Rewards Program. It is obvious from the number of complaints that this company has had that there is some deception involved or perhaps there software automatically signs a certain number of people up for the program. There is also multiple complaints about this same issue on multiple websites across the internet. I would like a refund of my $220.35 that I have been overcharged.Business Response

Placed a one time purchase with this company in Dec 2023. Though I have zero recollection of signing up for a rewards program, hen contacting the company to inquire on charges, the company states that I enrolled in a rewards program for $16.95 a month starting in January 2024.Looking back through emails, no receipts, billing statements, account registration, or any other form of communication was made until Feb 2025. When I go to the website, it sends password reset information, but once logged in, states I do not have an active membership. When I asked customer support about this, they stated I must have never setup an account. So my complaint is that they have been falsely charging the card used to make a one time purchase for 17 months.I cancelled the account over the phone, and never received confirmation that the account was cancelled. I am contacting my bank's fraud department unless I receive a full refund.Business Response

I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does satisfy my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint #********, provided they follow through with a full refund for all charges to the Christian **** Rewards, totaling $305.10 from charges accrued from January 2024 to June 2025, as implied in the email. I understand that by choosing to accept the business response that my complaint will be closed as resolved.

I bought a couple of books from Christianbook.com within this year. One book I never received. I have an account for the website, but it won't let me in, and even when I try to reset the password, it says that it sent me an email, but the email never arrives. Then, worst of all, I am being charged ***** a month for a rewards thing that I did not sign up for. I know I SPECIFICALLY OPTED OUT of it because I rarely use that site. I would like my money back for the book and the charges that were charged to my card, and to be taken off of any type of listings that they would have for me.Business Response

I opened up a rewards account when purchasing a book as there were shipping benefits. Since I dont use this website regularly, I promptly canceled my account. I have a confirmation email from 9/25/24. I have been repeatedly charged a membership fee even though I have a cancellation email. They accused me of opening up a new account an hour after I canceled.Business Response

Ordered some books from the website and, like many others here, discovered that I had somehow "opted-in" to a "rewards program" where the only reward appears to be $16.95 deducted from my account every month. It would seem to me that if this many people are not aware they are "opting-in" to this fantastic rewards program, maybe the business would make it more clear that you are agreeing to perpetual charges for "rewards" or something; or, even better, stop charging this fee since it might be confused with something nefarious.Business Response
