1 starOn June 22, I booked a car to pick up in ********, ** at 2:30pm with a 5:30 pm return. The interior of the vehicle was covered with stains, smudges, crumbs, dirt and who knows whatever else on the seats and floors, both front and back. It was disgusting. Im pretty sure the car has NEVER been sanitized, let alone cleaned. Close to 5:00pm, I opted to extend the rental by 30 minutes due to traffic. There happened to be an event at the Hockey area and after waiting in line to park, I had to explain to the lot attendant that I would not pay the $20 event parking free since I was returning a car share to its parking space. That took **** minutes. Once I pulled into the actual parking space, I double checked that I had all my personal belongings and took the required 6 exterior pictures, which took 3-5 minutes. After returning to my hotel, I see I was charged a late fee of $50. When I called customer service to ask about the $50 they just repeated the line that it was a huge inconvenience to the next customer when people return cars late. I explained that the car was at the gate to the lot by 6:00pm and in the parking space by 6:10pm. The representative asked why I did not call them at that very moment to inform them of what happened. After waiting in line and arguing with the parking attendant, the last thing I thought about doing was calling Zipcar for being **** minutes late. GPS would have confirmed that the car was at the lot by the return time. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was just transferred to another representative and had to go through the whole situation again. He told me there could be nothing done to return the $50 free and there was no one else I could talk to that could do anything for me. No attempt was made to address the issue of the car being parked in a lot that was not easily accessible. Terrible experience. I immediately canceled my membership. I would have been better off paying the the $20 event parking fee.Zipcar, Inc.

1 starI have had too many negative encounters with ***. This time was unbearable. I arrived to a vehicle yesterday morning (6/21/23)with my newborn to a car with a flat tire. They reassure me there's another vehicle nearby. Also, their rep assured me I would receive a full refund and no charge for the new vehicle due to this major inconvenience. I check my bank account just because and I see another charge from them for a HIGHER amount. I TRULY HATE BEING LIED TO. I would not have an issue if I was told I would be paying for a new ride. I confirmed multiple times with their rep about the refund and about the payment of the new trip. I was informed my refund would take 3-5 business days and NO I would NOT be paying for the new trip. Those were my specific questions. Why LIE? So I call back to speak again with a rep that say they will refund me the difference! The difference?!?! I was astounded at their incredulous behavior. She was unwavering so I asked to speak to someone who could refund me my money back. At this point, the rental has only been out for a few hours. I informed them it could be returned in that moment because I wanted my money back. They tell me that's not a possibility of getting my money back. They can't just give out free rides. But could offer me credit. CREDIT?!? THEIR IDEA OF CREDIT IS EVEN MORE HILARIOUS THAN THEIR HELP. Zipcar should be dismantled.! The reservation prior to this one was even more crazy. The car was literally not there!! Yet they were able to to track it and tell me it was the down the street. Something needs to be down about this. They don't offer nearly enough in credit to accommodate the inconveniences these lousy rentals cause. How can you not know a vehicle was not returned? How can you have it available for someone to rent and you KNOW it's not been returned. How can you rent a car with a f****** flat!! How?!? The rep heard my newborn crying in the back and still no compensation for loyal customers. It's horrendous and sad.Review fromPrasenjit C

1 starI recently had a truly unpleasant experience with Zipcar and feel compelled to share my frustration. The company's claim of providing convenient car-sharing services seemed promising, but my encounter with them quickly turned into a regretful affair.First and foremost, Zipcar's deceptive practices are exemplified by their exorbitant $25 non-refundable application fee. This fee, already steep for a mere application, felt like nothing short of a money-making scheme. I was under the impression that it would be utilized for legitimate screening purposes. However, my experience suggests otherwise. After diligently filling out the application and submitting the required documentation, it rejected my application without any valid explanation, leaving me perplexed and frustrated. Their only intention it seems is to collect the $25 application fee. If a non-** license is invalid, it should have been mentioned. After entering my license details, the system should not have allowed me to activate my membership. This experience left me feeling cheated and used. It's evident that they prioritize profit over customer satisfaction and do not value the trust placed on them by prospective members. In light of this disappointing encounter, I strongly advise potential users to exercise caution before engaging with Zipcar. The company's practices not only appear to be spam-like but also demonstrate a disregard for customer service and ethical conduct. There is a good reason that TrueCaller has listed Zipcar's customer care number as "Spam". Save yourself the frustration and explore other car-sharing options that prioritize honesty and genuine customer engagement.Zipcar, Inc.

1 starThis company will rip you off, it happened once before and I regretfully reactivated my membership for them to rip me off again. I rented the car with intent to keep for 24 hours but for personal reasons I had to extend hourly with hopes the car stays available. After 9 hours and $130 my card keeps declining as I was trying to extend for the final amount to keep the car for 24 hours. I called the bank, no issues there, positive balance and no holds, call zipcar they say its a banking issue. Pretty much didnt want to hear nothing I had to say and was ready to come tow it, I simply called because I wanted them to take the money I needed the car. I had to return the car after I spent my last $130 with them to have a car for a job that I ended up not being able to do because I had to return the car. Youd think they offer me some type of credit or usage of the car after $130 especially when they say they offer you the best rate after so many hours. Feels like they just robbed me Im so sick.Zipcar, Inc.

1 starOn June 3, I booked an SUV to pick up in Manhattan at 11:30 am on June 10th to attend my daughters one and only high school graduation at 12:30 pm in Brooklyn. When I arrived at the pickup location, the car was not there. I called Zipcar and was on hold for 40 minutes. The woman representative said a manager was unavailable to respond for 24 - 48 hours. When I demanded to speak to a manager, she connected me with ********************** and the first representative said that he would not tell me how close the car I reserved was, nor would he contact the member. Then I was told to pick up another car five miles away, to which I had to take a Uber. I emailed Zipcar; the receipt. I reminded the apathetic ******* that because of Zipcar's negligence, I would be late for my daughters graduation. ******* said he would credit me $18 dollars, which was not sufficient. Because instead of changing the new reservation to 12:15 pm or 12:30 pm, I was billed before I could reach the new car. Nor did he extend the reservation beyond the 3:00 pm original return time to 4:00 pm. I was being billed while I was still in the Uber car. Plus I was charged a $50.00 late fee. I never agreed to shorten my reservation time. It was done because of Zipcar's failures.*******, the manager, also said he did not know the name of Zipcars CEO, *********************, who never ever replies to any communication.Tonight I spoke with manager *******, who never apologized or accepted responsibility for Zipcar's failure to have my reserved car. Plus, he refused to pay for my Uber $12.00 charge I had to pay because of Zipcars failures. The emotional distress I had to experience for missing my daughter crossing the stage for her high school graduation is unacceptable.I demand that the fraudulent $50.00 charge must be refunded and my $12.91 Uber charge be reimbursed.Zipcar, Inc.

1 starThis is a horrible company by way of customer service. They have zero integrity. I rented a vehicle on 4/21/23 and they charged me on 4/30/23 and stated that I have a ticket. I have proof that I not only rented the car on April 21st, but I also spoke to a representative who had to manually log into my account to change my drop off location because the location I rented from was not empty when I returned. I had to return to another location. They don't have any higher *** to discuss this issue with. Someone should be controlling these calls higher up.Zipcar, Inc.

1 starI received the difficult news that a family member was in critical condition, and I needed to find a car at the last minute so I could rush out to the hospital (located about an hour and a half outside the city) and say goodbye. Id recently heard about Zipcar and figured Id give them a shot. After submitting my application, I realized Id entered the wrong card information. No biggie, I figured I could resubmit with the correct card details once my application had been rejected.Well, evidently not.According to the individual from Zipcars application team I spoke with, if your application is rejected for any reason, you cannot submit a new one and you will never be able to use Zipcar. Harsh. And given the devastating news Id received that day, this compounded the stress I was under.I ended up using Turo and had a wonderful experience. Turo actually ended up being significantly cheaper because it didnt make me pay an application fee or sign up for a membership. $54 for an 8-hour rental with Turo versus the $153 it wouldve been with Zipcar. If Zipcar doesnt want my money, thats fine by me. There are much better services out there.Zipcar, Inc.

1 starZipcar has a known risk in which cars deactivate if taken outside cell service. This risk is not disclosed to members/drivers, putting them in unsafe situations. I experienced this on May 27th, while hiking in the Lakes Region, **, something I do often with the car I own and with Zipcars historically. After my hike, the car would not start and I had no way to contact help. A gracious stranger brought me to a market, where I endured a 10 hour saga with terrible support from Zipcar, who remained focused on the car, not my safety.Zipcar, Inc.

1 starI've been a member for years and have experienced many issues with this company. When there's a problem, IT IS A PROBLEM. I've dealt with smelly and dirty cars, (I rented a car recently that smelled like fresh body odor. The odor was from the day before. I rented a car previously that had a pair of boxers in the trunk), missing fuel cards and having to reach out several times to get a refund when I had to spend my own money to fill the gas tank, rented a car that another member "had" but it was parked at the pick up location with a flat tire, and the list goes on. It can be very frustrating renting cars from this company.I rented a car in advance for today and faced a new level of issues.1) My extension wouldn't go through after trying 4 times on the app and website. The issue is unrelated to me.2) Initially, the website wouldn't allow me to log in. I changed my password, got in, tried to log in again and now my password is unrecognizable, so I no longer have access to my ********** A supervisor named ******** tried to blame me for not having enough time with the car. A courtesy extension couldn't be granted because another member reserved it at some point during this mess. My plans were completely ruined because of this. I wasted almost an hour on the phone trying to resolve the issue. The issue hasn't been resolved.4) ******** was unwilling to issue me a refund for just an hour which would've been for the time wasted on the phone with them.5) I was far from the return location and informed them I couldn't guarantee that I would be able to return on time, a $50 late fee was still mentioned. Given the situation, it's unacceptable to charge for a late fee when I had absolutely no control over the issue that Zipcar is clearly experiencing. I don't recommend this company at all.Zipcar, Inc.

1 starI was charged a $25.94 application fee even though I never rented a vehicle and canceled the subscription within an hour of applying. When I called about the charge I was told the fee was mentioned at the end of the membership form. I should have received a copy of that form and the Zipcar contact I spoke with would not send it to me. I would never use this company and I don't believe I should have to pay any money.
