I am receiving emails from TrueAccord that state they are a collection agency and they are writing in regards to an account with Credit One Bank. Whatever account they are trying to collect in, it isn't/wasn't mine. These feel like phishing scams to me, though if they are real, they are fraudulent.

Thank you for forwarding ******* ****** BBB complaint to TrueAccord. We have searched our system for the limited contact information that the complainant provided and could not locate an account. Specifically, we have no account in our system for an individual with a complainant's name, phone number, or email address. It would assist us in locating the account if they could send us some more information, such as their TrueAccord account number, their Charter account number, any alternate names they may have (e.g. maiden or married names), or any other alternate contact information. Thank you.

I have received emails from TrueAccord on multiple occasions, most recently January 11, 2025, seeking to collect on a debt I do not hold. The amount is $145.60, with Jefferson Capitol, for Verizon Wireless, at an address I have never lived at. I do not have any responsibility for the debt they are trying to collect. Further, there is no record of it on my credit reports.
I would like TrueAccord to cease contacting me about this.

On January 14, 2025, TrueAccord Corp. received the BBB complaint filed by **** ******* (“consumer”). TrueAccord has not heard from the consumer prior to this complaint. We take every complaint seriously and appreciate the opportunity to address their concerns.

TrueAccord does not own the account in question. The current creditor placed the account, including the consumer’s contact information, with us and we loaded it into our system on January 10, 2025.  On January 11, 2025, TrueAccord sent the consumer an initial email detailing the creditor, an itemization of the amount due, how the debt could be disputed, and the option to unsubscribe. It also included a link to the CFPB website (********************************) for the consumer to learn more information about their federal rights.

TrueAccord notified our client, the current creditor, of the consumer’s dispute and the client has subsequently pulled the account from our system on January 14, 2025.  Therefore, TrueAccord is no longer servicing the consumer’s account. Further, our client has advised us that  to resolve this matter they are terminating any further collection efforts on the account.  If the consumer has any further questions about the account, we suggest the consumer contact the current creditor directly. Thank you.

I am rejecting this response because:
Because True accord only discharged the account because bill is trying to avoid following through on his word, I still have numerous complaints on how the agents from True accord conduct themselves, they refuse to answer simple yes or no questions instead opting to dodge questions and making the situation even more muddled and confusing, I would also like to have on record that since True Accord will no longer be handling the account after hastily discharging it to avoid consequence that i have requested multiple times that any of my information be purged from their servers but have yet to do so.  After I didnsoke research and discovered True accord has a history of being unprofessional as well as attempting to illegally collect debts i just don't feel safe knowing they have my information despite having no business with me.

    Sincerely,

    Business Response

    Date: 01/31/2025

On January 23, 2025, TrueAccord Corp. received your reply to our response filed on January 21, 2025.  We take every complaint seriously and appreciate the opportunity to again address your concerns.

We have re-reviewed the call you referenced where you spoke with the agent that caused the retraction of the account by our creditor. On the outset, we recognize that the call was not the best experience for everyone involved, and for our part the agent on the call will be coached. However, after listening to the call, it is clear that the manager offered a 40% discount, which would have required a payment by you of 60% of the balance. When the manager recognized that you misunderstood the offer by thinking this meant a 60% discount (rather than paying 60% of the balance), the manager clarified on multiple occasions that the lowest discount TrueAccord was authorized to offer was 40% off of the balance. Since you declined the lowest offer that TrueAccord was allowed to provide and indicated several times that you wouldn’t pay it, TrueAccord had a legal obligation under the FDCPA to treat that as a refusal to pay. Due to this, the account was immediately closed following that call and retracted by the creditor due to the refusal to pay. Once an account is retracted, we no longer have authorization to work it which is why we could not assist you in future calls.

Regarding your personal information, TrueAccord’s privacy policy is available at ****************************************** and outlines a consumer's rights related to their personal data. TrueAccord has legal and regulatory requirements to retain certain data, such requirements are established by federal and state laws and regulations.

As a final note, we would like to assure you that TrueAccord is a legitimate business. We are registered with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and are a licensed debt collector in all states that require such license.

If you have any more questions about the account, we suggest you contact the current creditor directly.

I received a text message on 1/3/2025 from TrueAccord, a debt collector, telling me that my account has been placed with them. It says I can view my account summary by clicking a link.
This looked suspicious, as I have no debts and never received anything in the mail.
My wife sent an email to ********************** requesting detailed information about this matter, but received no reply, not even an acknowledgment.
Today (1/6/2025) I received another text message from them, again with a link. There was an option to reply STOP in order to stop getting messages. I did that.
Again, I have no debts and there is nothing adverse in my credit report.
I think this is fraudulent, especially seeing so many other complaints about this company.

I received an email today, December 31st, 2024, from True Accord that I owe a debt to Capital One Platinum Mastercard from 6/25/2018. I never had this card. This card has never been in my credit report because I never had it. Please submit all documents that you have submitted to consumer reporting agencies you used to create this tradeline on my credit report. I have reason to believe that you unlawfully obtained my personal identification information. I believe you have used my name and any other personal identifiable information such as a social security card, driver license, or my address without my consent or a signed agreement between me and your agency expressing mutual assent from both parties. Before this escalates further and causes more damage and more hours of my time investigating how you or your originator obtained false information, or an investigation into penalties for identity theft (under 18 USC 1028A) is pursued, I asked that you remove this as soon as possible.

    Customer Answer

I am very sorry for using wording similar to another complaint. I certainly did not mean to mislead anyone. What happened is that I initially did a web search about consumers experiencing fraudulent activity and had complaints against capital one. I wanted to see if my experience was common, and found that it indeed is common. That is actually how I came to the BBB website.  I found that on the BBB site, there were consumers with complaints about the exact type of problem with ******* ***. That's how I realized I could send my complaint through BBB, which I had not known before, and is how I came across some of the terminology and wording I used in my own complaint. Again, I do apologize.  I will amend the information and clarify everything as soon as possible thank you.

These scammers emailed me out of nowhere about some fictitious debt they claim I owe and demanded payment. Given that I regularly get emails meant for other people with my last name, they clearly did not do their due dilligence before sending this and are either illegally giving me private information about someone else's debt or are commiting fraud in hopes that I might be frightened into paying them.

On August 9, 2024, TrueAccord sent you an initial letter detailing the creditor, an itemization of the amount due, how the debt could be disputed, and the option to unsubscribe. It also included a link to the CFPB website ********************************** for you to learn more information about your federal rights.

On December 13, 2024, TrueAccord received your dispute request via the credit bureau.  We processed this dispute, paused collection activity, and requested debt verification from the current creditor. TrueAccord has not and will not resume collections until after the debt verification has been sent to the address on file.

As a result of this dispute, TrueAccord submitted a request on December 15, 2024 for the tradeline to be removed from your credit report. It typically takes around 45 days for the credit report to be updated by the credit bureaus. If you have additional questions regarding credit reporting, we suggest you reach out directly to the credit reporting agencies.

If you have any more questions, you can contact us via email at ********************** or by phone at ***** ********* Thank you.
