TrueAccord contacted me via email on Dec. 2, 2024 regarding an alleged outstanding debt of $792.92 owed to **** ******* *** from the original creditor ******* ***., dating from March 5, 2018.
I do not have any responsibility for the debt they trying to collect.
I have never conducted any business with ******* ***. and the address provided on file for me (**** **** **, Harrisburg, PA 17014-2135) is not and never has been my address.
I emailed their customer support from their website since the email I received appeared to be a phishing scam and asked if they could confirm the legitimacy of the original email (especially since the contact phone number in the email was NOT the same as on their website. Customer service responded 10 days later asking for my address to send documentation but did not address my concerns regarding phishing, which reinforced my sense this was a scam.
In addition to having NOT any responsibility for this debt, the Pennsylvania Statute of Limitations on debt is four years, which further invalidates this claim (42. Pa. C.S. 5525(a)) from 2018.
I request that TrueAccord stop all other communication with me and with this email address, and record that I dispute having any obligation for this debt. If they stop their collection of this debt, and forward or return it to another company, please indicate to them that it is disputed. If they report it to a credit bureau (or have already done so), also report that the debt is disputed.Business Response

I received an email Monday January 27, 2025 about an account that I do not have. The email stated the following, this is the exact email. (This is TrueAccord Corp., reaching out about your balance with **** ******* *** (current creditor of your original **** ** ******** ****** ***** account) of $395.12). I have never had an account with the **** ** ******** nor have I ever been to Missouri. I do not want to be responsible for this on being my credit report, especially if I have never had an account with this company. I have also been receiving calls from the debt collectors about this account as well. I do not know how you got my information but I want all of my information removed from this debt collection company. If someone has used my information to open this account I will be pressing charges because this is fraud.Business Response

I received an email from TrueAccord on 24JAN2025. The email was about a debt owed to Citi Bank. The problem here is that the debt in question is named under my Great Grandmother who passed away years ago. After talking to my Grandfather, who handled her finances, he said she NEVER banked with Citi Bank. TrueAccord even has her middle name wrong in the email. Even if this debt is real, is it professional to send personal and sensitive information to other people? That is a big breach in privacy that should have TrueAccord penalized and shut down!Business Response

I always had an excellent credit score. Earlier this week, my scores suddenly dropped 75 points. It turns out that this was due to a filing from the debt collection agency True Accord Corporation that I had an unpaid debt of $1246.00. They were extremely vague as to whom I owed this money and for what. Or when the debt was incurred.
The bottom line is that this is a scam prompting me to simply send in a check for the $1246.00 payable, of course, to True Accord. According to my online research, this is a typical ongoing scam with this company.
I do not owe this money to any legitimate company. It is simply a scam by True Accord. Naturally, I cannot reach anyone at True Accord for an explanation.
It is imperative that I get this claim expunged from my credit report and have my regular score back in place.
Thank You,

I received a letter from TrueAccord requesting debt collection that is owed to ******* ***. The amount is for $957.99. Letter is dated December 30, 2024. On January 15, 2025, TrueAccord Corp. received the BBB complaint filed by ******** *****n (“the consumer”). TrueAccord has not heard from the consumer prior to this complaint. We take every complaint seriously and appreciate the opportunity to address the consumer’s concerns.
TrueAccord is a third party debt collection company established to reimagine the debt collection experience for consumers. Founded in 2013, TrueAccord communicates primarily via email and offers an inbound customer service center in the event a consumer prefers to call in and speak with a live agent. One of our guiding principles is treating our consumer-customers with dignity and respect. We are a licensed and bonded agency and registered with the CFPB. We maintain a full-time internal compliance department that established our policies and procedures to meet the requirements of the state, federal and local laws and regulations governing collections. Our in-house training program instructs our agents on these policies, including annual refresher courses.
TrueAccord does not report to any of the credit bureaus for this creditor. If the consumer has questions regarding credit reporting, we suggest they reach out directly to the current creditor or the credit reporting agencies.
TrueAccord does not own the account in question. The current creditor placed the account, including the consumer’s contact information, with us and we loaded it into our system on November 15, 2024.
On November 19, 2024, TrueAccord sent the consumer an initial email/letter detailing the creditor, an itemization of the amount due, how the debt could be disputed, and the option to unsubscribe. It also included a link to the CFPB website **********************-collection) for the consumer to learn more information about their federal rights.
TrueAccord has processed this complaint as a dispute. TrueAccord notified our client, the current creditor, of the consumer’s dispute and the client has subsequently pulled the account from our system on January 15, 2025. Therefore, TrueAccord is no longer servicing the consumer’s account. Further, our client has advised us that to resolve this matter they are terminating any further collection efforts on the account. If the consumer has any further questions about the account, we suggest the consumer contact the current creditor directly.
