I have been receiving notifications and calls from Unifin for the past few months, most recently on Jan. 15, ****, on which I received a call from Unifin and called back only to be denied any information about the reason for the call. On two occasions at least, I have called back the number, been told that the call may be recorded, and asked if I am *****************************. I tell them that my name is ***************************, and they tell me they can provide no further information. The text messages simply say, "This is Unifin a debt collector Contact us about ref#********** @********** or [url that I am not going to retype here]." The reason this is of particular concern is because I had identifying information stolen from me from a man named *************************, and I had to erase false aliases on my credit report, including the name ***************************** and other variations of mine and his name. I have had a fraud alert on my profile for some time now, and I would like to stop receiving these messages unless there is an issue related to me (*************************** or *********************************). I am rejecting this response because:
I would information about why this debt was attached to my name. I was the victim of identity fraud, and I am worried that there might be future issues. I appreciate Unifin discontinuing efforts to collect the debt. I am not sure that Unifin is able to provide further information about a case that is not connected to me, but I would appreciate assurance that I will not be contacted again for others' debt.

Received a call from a **** ************** attempting to contact my husband. When I told her I am his wife she just kept on insisting it is a personal matter that she needs to discuss w/ him and hang up. This person is rude and very evasive. Never disclosed the company she represents nor state the nature of her call. I called her number a few minutes after and found out it is "Unison" thru the phone recording and was connected to her. I advised her you don't call somebody without identifying yourself nor state your business as it is not only rude but against any business ethics. She said she will be happy disclose the information if I can verify my husband's SS# (last 4 digits)??? I put my husband on the phone and she wants him to verify his SS#. Really...with all these identity thefts. Is this company preying on people and/or running a scam??? This company and this employee need to be reproved for their misleading and unethical business practice(s). I feel for the seniors that are being victimized with such scrupulous scheme.Business Response

Thank you for helping fix the email notification. Confirming receipt of this email below.
However, this complaint is not directed at Unison. I was unable to find any consumer with this name, we have no employee named ****, the conduct does not sound like something like we do, and perhaps most importantly, I called the number at ************ given by the consumer (and after great difficulty) confirmed the company is Unifin, **** not Unison. I can somewhat see why the consumer might have confused the name with ours because I had to repeatedly ask the company to provide their name and they said it quickly.
Since this is the wrong company, is there a way to administratively clear it from our file in lieu of responding to the consumer? I see the second sentance of the notification says to contact BBB if we believe this notice was sent in error.

An account under the name ************************* was placed with our office by our client, ****************************** to make collection efforts on their behalf. Due to the sensitive nature of the account, **********************'s employee attempted to verify that they were speaking to the correct person before disclosing that the call was in connection with the collection of a debt. Unifin was unable to complete the verification process with *********************** which prevented Unifins employees from being able to disclose any more detailed information to her. Upon speaking with *************************, and completing the verification process, Unifin determined that ****** and ************************* received a call intended for another individual and immediately ceased all communications to ****** and *************************** phone number. Unifin forwarded a copy of the subject complaint to its client along with notice of the incorrect phone number.

I am rejecting this response because: No other person is in any way connected to my phone number. The contact attempt from Unifin to me appears to be a phishing expedition to try and extract funds from me that are not owed by me in any capacity. Casting a broad net and including innocent SENIOR citizens to satisfy someone else's debt is unethical and potentially actionable. It is emotionally upsetting at a minimum. At it's worst a more vulnerable senior than me might fell legally compelled to comply.Any future news articles I hear about Unifin's questionable practices will result in my filing a complaint on this matter with my State Attorney General.

Unifin **** collector solicitation (Scam). The past reviews and responses from the company state that they sent it to the "wrong" phone number. I received the same text and will not provide information because it sounds like a scam.
