I am filing this complaint regarding an unfair and inaccurate debt collection being pursued in relation to ****************** 2020, I began SmileDirectClub treatment but was not satisfied with the results and stopped using their services. I did not complete treatment, and I disputed any further obligation at that time.*************** filed for bankruptcy in 2023 and ceased operations. Despite this, a collections account connected to them has been reported to my credit file in 2025, which has significantly harmed my credit score. This account is inaccurate and invalid for the following reasons:1.The debt is disputed I did not receive satisfactory services and stopped treatment years ago.2.SmileDirectClub is bankrupt they filed Chapter 11 in 2023 and no longer operate, raising questions about whether this debt is legally enforceable.3.The collector has not provided validation I have requested proof under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, but none has been ***************** reporting harm this unverified account is being reported to Equifax, Experian, and **********, damaging my creditworthiness.Resolution Requested:Immediate removal of the collection account from my credit reports.Written confirmation that no further collection activity will take place.Assurance that this matter is fully resolved.I am extremely dissatisfied with the handling of this matter and the negative impact it is having on my credit and financial standing.Business Response

A debt collector claiming to be from Mediation Recovery Center is attempting to collect a debt for a 2019 medical device from ************************, a company I have confirmed is permanently closed and was prosecuted for billing fraud. In our initial call, the debt collector was verbally abusive and hung up on me when I asked him to speak in a professional manner. The debt collector has since sent me a PDF of a ***** document claiming to be a shipping receipt for the product, along with an image of my driver's license. The email signature claims it is from *** *****, but the message was sent from a generic ******************************************************** of a verified work email associated with *** *****. When I told him I never received a written notice for this debt, he offered two excuses: first, that ********************, the company he claimed sold them the debt, must have mailed it my old address. Second, he claimed he couldn't send me an email notice because my name was misspelled in their records. A written debt validation notice/letter was never provided. Regardless of these data errors, Im aware that the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) requires debt collectors to provide a written validation notice within five days of their initial contact. This company failed to meet that legal obligation. The most recent call from this debt collector (yesterday) stated I had until this Friday to pay the debt, offering to "cut me a discount on the total" before threatening to report the account to credit agencies if I dont pay by Friday.Business Response

I received a letter dated August 2025 from MRCI about monies owed to SmileDirectClub in the amount of $1012.26 .saying debt obligation is significantly past due and offered a one time payment. Im not saying I dont owe the money , but not saying that I do either! I am requesting the MRCI to provide proof of this so-called debt with my signature of any loan as PROOF OF OWING ANY DEBT!. Within 10 days to help resolve this matter ,without proof from said SmileDirectClub ONLY! I would have to say I dont owe this money I need proof. and would not be able to pay such payment amount every month, if and only if proof is provided I will be requesting much lower amounts! And requesting this Company not to contact except through physical address but not in a harassing manner! So BBB please help me to resolve this matter in getting the proof that I need with dates of service if any and response from said company NOT third party only! I'd also like to note that I've never done business with SmileDirectClub and I have traditional braces provided by ***************** which I pay for monthly.Business Response

I have been receiving harassing phone calls daily from Mediation Recovery Center claiming I owe money from National Durable Medical. After contacting my surgeon's office, I was told I was never to have been charged for this device. National Durable Medical was sold and eventually Mediation Recovery received my personal information, despite HIPPA laws, and are attempting to collect money that was never owed. National Durable Medical never contacted me, as the device was provided to my surgeon's office, and no bill was ever to be sent to myself nor my insurance company per my surgeon's office. This is a complete scam, using personal information they shouldn't even have.Business Response

It seems that I, like many others, am a victim of the National Durable Medical scam. I have no reason the believe this debt is mine or even real. I have never done any business or received any communication from this company and believe the letter I received from Mediation Recover Center does not provide me with necessary validation information. There is no itemization of the current amount of the debt. There is no tear-off form that you can send back to the debt collector to dispute the debt or take other actions, which is required according to the **** website. There is no end date for a 30-day period when you can dispute the debt. I have sent a dispute letter and do not wish to be harassed by phone regarding this.Business Response

I am being hassled by a collection agency for a bill that doesn't exist. 7/10/25 ****** ******* from Mediation Recovery Center (MRC) contacted my husband on his work phone, assertively demanding $3495 payment for an account in collections in my name. His claim was that in 2018, National Durable Medical provided me with a limb compression device dispensed thru my podiatrist, Dr. ******* and that *********************** denied the claim, that I received multiple letters in the mail regarding this unpaid account and it remains unpaid. At the time I received it, the doctor was sending all patients home with one like a promotion - six others ahead of me in the checkout line received the device. I informed Mr. ******* I have never received a bill, letter or notice regarding this until now and still have the device in its wrapper which I will gladly return to them. They want payment, not the device. Shortly after, I received a letter(attached) in the mail offering a discount if I pay $2796 by 8/25/25. I have contacted my doctor and acquired my records. ****** at ****************** states National Durable medical never billed for this, and she is aware there are other patients being hassled by a collection company for this same reason. I also contacted my insurance carrier (which was also NOT Highmark, as the collector claimed) and have my claims history dating back to 2017 from Dr. ******** PA Foot and Ankle and they have verified there were/are no claims submitted to this effect, outstanding or otherwise. Based on the information which I have acquired, this collection claim is false and I wish for *** to cease contact.Business Response
