    Complaint: 23608302

I am rejecting this response because:

I appreciate Sequium's response; however, it fails to address the core issues of my original complaint.
    1. Sequium Asset Solutions is not licensed to collect debt in the *****************. Under the ************************** Act (225 ILCS 425), it is unlawful to collect debts from Illinois residents without a valid license. ********************** is attempting to collect from an Illinois resident despite not being registered with the ************************************************************ (*****). This is a direct violation of Illinois law, and any attempt to collect or communicate about this debt is invalid and unlawful.
    2. Sequium is attempting to validate the debt without sufficient documentation. Despite claiming that a Model Validation Notice was sent on July 4, 2025, I did not receive verifiable documentation of the alleged ******* Wireless debt such as a signed contract, billing history, or itemized statements. Under FDCPA 809(b), I have a right to receive actual validation, not just a form notice.
    3. Conflicting ownership claims render this debt unverified. **************** has provided contradictory statements about the status of this account. At one point, *********************** (***) was claimed to be the owner. Now, Sequium claims to be a third-party collector acting on behalf of *******. This inconsistency violates **** requirements and raises serious doubts about the validity and chain of custody of the alleged debt.
    4. Sequium admits they do not furnish data to credit bureaus yet ********** and other **** continue to verify the account based on unlicensed and unverified sources. This indicates systemic misrepresentation under both the **** and FDCPA.

In light of these facts, I am renewing my demand that Sequium immediately cease all collection activity, acknowledge the illegality of their attempts to collect in ********, and confirm that no further communication will be made regarding this alleged account.

    Sincerely,

    ******* ********

    Complaint: 23608302

I am rejecting this response because:

    To Whom It May Concern,

I have received information indicating that Sequium Asset Solutions claims to hold a valid license to collect debts in the State of ********. However, after independently verifying this information through the ************************************************************ (*****), I found that this claim is not supported by public records.

A search of the ****** official website reveals that Sequium Asset Solutions does not currently hold a valid debt collection license in ********. The only licenses associated with the company are tied to three different out-of-state locations, none of which are registered or authorized to operate in ********. As per Illinois law, any debt collector engaging with Illinois residents must be licensed in-state to legally collect or attempt to collect debts.

Therefore, if Sequium is acting as a debt collector on behalf of ******* or any other party in this matter, they may be doing so in violation of Illinois state law. This raises additional concerns about the legitimacy and legality of Verizons placement of this account, and further undermines their position regarding ownership and enforcement of this alleged debt.

I request that this issue be taken seriously and that ******* provide clear, verifiable documentation of all third parties theyve authorized to collect on this account, including proof of compliance with Illinois licensing requirements. Until then, I maintain that any collection efforts from Sequium regarding this account are unauthorized and potentially unlawful under state regulations.

    Sincerely,

    Good day,

Sequium Asset Solutions, LLC acknowledges receipt of your rejection of our response to your Better Business Bureau (BBB) complaint.

Sequium is licensed in the state of ******** to collect. The license number provided to you in the original response was written incorrectly. We apologize for the error. Enclosed is a copy of our Illinois license.

Again, ********************** has neither purchased the debt in question nor received it through a transfer of ownership. Customer Answer

    Date: 08/01/2025

    Complaint: 23608302

I am rejecting this response because:

I am responding to Sequiums demand that I set up a payment plan for a debt I do not owe. I have never had a contract or agreement with Sequium Asset Solutions, and this is my first time hearing about them as a collector in relation to this alleged ******* account.

********************** does not disclose the states they are licensed to operate in on their IDFPR license record, unlike other debt collectors. This raises concern about your authority to collect in *********

Sequium claims they are authorized to collect on behalf of *******, but I have received direct communication from ******* on July 9, 2025, confirming that TSI (not Sequium) is the agency that owns the account. However, in this BBB response, Sequium claims ******* assigned the account to them on July 3, 2025, which presents a clear conflict in ownership and chain of custody.

Furthermore, the documentation Sequium provided (such as billing statements) is not a valid method of debt verification under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) or Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Billing statements only show someone owes ******* not that I owe Sequium. A proper validation would include

A bill of sale or chain of assignment proving Sequium has legal ownership or collection rights to this debt
Proof that I had a direct contractual relationship with Sequium, which I never have

Additionally, the contract ******* provided previously was not signed, and the only other version I received contained a forged signature, which further discredits the legitimacy of this alleged debt.

Until valid and legally acceptable documentation is provided showing that:
1.This debt belongs to me, and
2.Sequium has the legal right to collect it,

I will not be making any payments. Continuing to attempt collection without proper documentation may constitute a violation of the FDCPA. Further, the balance Sequium is attempting to collect does not match the balance ******* claims is allegedly owed. This inconsistency in the amount being pursued is concerning and may constitute a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which prohibits deceptive or misleading representations of a debt.  Since you have failed to provide sufficient documentation validating that this debt is mine and that you have the legal right to collect it, I am now formally requesting that you cease all further communication with me under my rights granted by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), 15 U.S.C.  1692c(c).

Any further attempts to contact me regarding this alleged debt, including phone calls, emails, or mailed notices, will be considered harassment and a direct violation of federal law.

    Sincerely,

I am filing a formal complaint against SEQUIUM ASSET SOLUTION regarding collection account #********, which was reported to the credit bureaus without prior notice or debt validation as required by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This account has caused serious financial harm, including damage to my credit score, loss of housing opportunities, and denial of essential benefits.I was never notified about this alleged debt, nor given the 30-day period to respond or dispute it, as required under 15 U.S.C. 1692g(a). No written validation was provided outlining the original creditor, amount owed, or my right to dispute (15 U.S.C. 1692g(b)). The debt was reported prematurely, violating federal guidelines, and no itemized accounting or chain of assignment has been provided despite multiple requests.I also requested a signed contract proving I agreed to this debt, proof of SEQUIUMs legal authority to collect, and documentation confirming the debts legitimacy. None of this has been provided, and the account remains on my credit report, inaccurately impacting my financial standing.I am requesting the immediate deletion of this account from all credit bureaus and a full waiver of the debt. If this matter is not resolved promptly, I will escalate the issue to the ************************************ (****), the ***, and my state Attorney General. Please respond in writing with confirmation that this account has been removed.

I am writing to request my collection for $5713 be removed from my credit report and that the collection agency cease to communicate with me regarding this debt. I paid off my monthly rent of $915 for my apartment with The Hedge Apartments for every month that I was a resident before ending my lease early with The Hedge Apartments. My uncollected security deposit covered the early termination fee. There was no damage to the apartment and it was fully emptied of all furniture and other objects at the time of my move-out. It is impossible to me to have been charged with such an absurd debt and that my credit score should be depleted for it. This debt charge is for over 6 months of unpaid rent in that studio apartment and I do not see how it is possible for me to have ever incurred it.
