I flew to Philadelphia and had a reservation at Hertz airport site. After waiting in a very long line for over 45 minutes I was told that I had to go to another building across a large dark parking lot. When I got there there was another long line. This time the clerk told me they had no cars but may have one in about an hour, and that I should wait. It was after 10pm by this time. I told them to cancel the reservation, and that I would get a taxi. She refused to cancel and sent me back to the original building where they also refused to cancel the reservation. I got a taxi anyway and tried repeatedly to call the phone number I was given to cancel the reservation. It was an endless loop with no way to cancel.. Then they charged me over $100 on my credit card as a no show. After more than a dozen calls to Hertz customer service when I received the bill, there was no answer, or they give you another phone number which no one answers. I have been a Hertz customer for over 20 years, but no more. Us them at your own risk!

Not all Hertz rental offices are the same. There are three rental locations is the Quad Cities area. The office in Davenport is great. The office in East Moline 61244 is horrible. The first rental was ok. On the second rental, after driving only 10 miles the windshield wiper on the driver's side flew off the car during heavy rain and wind. After hours of repeated phone calls and promises, the Hertz rental office told me to go to a auto parts store, purchase wipers, and Hertz would reimburse me. Instead, I waited for the rain so slacken up, drove back to the rental office and demanded a refund. After much back and forth with Hertz, I finally had to protest the transaction through the credit card company. The next time I made a reservation with with the Hertz East Moline office, I made a reservation two days in advance. But when I arrived on time to pick up the car, I was told that a car would not be available for another 4 hours. So I just cancelled the reservation and made a new reservation with the Hertz office in Davenport for the following week. Even worse, the office manager remembered me from the previous incident and used his cell phone to show me the negative review I put on Social Media. What did he expect? A negative rating for service in that office is more appropriate! Fortunately the reason I needed the rental could be postponed. But I don't own a car. I have to use Uber to get to and from the rental office. That money was wasted.

I got my vehicle, dirty outside and inside. I left my work cell phone in the vehicle. I tried to call the location and realized that getting a hold of a person was not going to happen. I filed a lost and found complaint per their recorded phone instructions only to receive an email letting me know that they did not find my item. Thankfully, I kept calling my work cell phone and the current renter answered to let me know that she got the vehicle dirty, and my cell phone was in plain sight. I called their customer service line as well as the corporate headquarters only to be transferred to call centers outside the US and told that I am not able to speak to a person to file a complaint that I must do it online I called six separate times and spent over an hour on the phone trying to get a hold of the location manager only to be transferred to a number that has been disconnected and then when you call the local number and select the option to speak to a store representative, it tells you that the option is not available and hangs up on you. I’m not sure how they’re in business especially given the fact that we still have things like Covid and numerous other sicknesses going around so passing out vehicles that have not been cleaned is disgusting. Thankfully the current renter is a good human and willing to send me my work cell phone even though it’s not her responsibility which is why I was trying to get a hold of The Company to begin with. I most certainly will not be utilizing Hertz ever again, and will ensure that my company does not use Hertz ever again. I will go as far as I have to to make sure that something is done.

I rented a vehicle from hertz 5/26-6/03-2023. My initial cost was 564.00 I received my credit card statement & noticed my card was maxed out because they charged me an extra 500.00 for outside cleaning fee. As you would imagine I am livid. I contacted them to see what they h they were talking about & they gave me a email contact. I told them the car was cleaned before I dropped it off & sent them a receipt stating that. I've never heard of ANY car wash for 500 dollars. This company is a fraud & they're scamming people. I want my money sent back to my credit card immediately. I'm contacting an attorney & they will be sued if that doesn't happen within a few days this is ridiculous. The vehicle was clean inside & out as a matter of fact it was cleaner on return than when I picked it up they owe me. I'm expecting someone to contact me within 24hrs with the results I need.

Do yourself a favor and do not rent at Hertz. Do not prepay any car rental service from them. They will charge you twice. Expect rude customer service representatives who will yell at you. Expect Hertz to charge you the full amount you prepaid because you decide to get a toll pass. Expect to receive a car that is way below the standard of what you usually drive. My reservation was pre-paid via PayPal a week before arrival. Once at the airport, the Hertz counter did not have power or internet service. I waited in line for an hour, in part because the customer service representative I was waiting on decided it was justified and necessary to have a 30 minute banter session with the client just before me. It was so bad people behind me in line were suggesting they should "exchange phone numbers" and "get a room." When it was finally my turn and I asked her why $249.80 were going to be charged to my credit card, because the reservation had been pre-paid through PayPal, she yelled at me to "settle down, because if she said so, I would not get a car." She then proceeded to ask if I would get a SunPass for the vehicle, and I said yes. You should know that according to Hertz, getting a SunPass or any other type of toll feature is considered an "additional service" and they will charge your credit card the full amount of the rental on top of what you prepaid. Then, prepare for a less than stellar experience with the car itself. I rented a compact vehicle that had a broken air conditioner, so I spent four days in a sauna thanks to the low quality of the Hertz fleet. When I tried to open an investigation as to why I was being charged twice, I found out that "purchasing additional services" triggers your credit card to be charged. They will not refund your money. So, spare yourself from doing business with Hertz. It is not worth it, and they should be driven out of business for their unsavory profiteering practices.

I prepaid for rental car at Hertz at Minneapolis/St Paul Airport. When we arrived, we immediately knew there was a problem. People told us that they had been waiting for a car for four hours. People also were told that they could not leave the area to get food. If they left the area and a car became available, it would be given to the next person, they would have to start all over. Only one person was working the desk for Hertz and it's other brands. I asked where her manager was. She told me up on the 4th floor and that he would not come down to speak with me. She said I could go up there. However, I heard from others that they went to the 4th floor, and no manager was there. I was there for 90 minutes by the time it was my turn at the counter. By then it was 7 pm, and not one person waiting for over 4 hours had been had been given a car. Rental agreements lined the counter. I was told that it would be at least 4 hours to get a car. Realizing that the chance of me getting a car that evening was little to none, I went to the Alamo counter and was able to secure one of their last cars. The price was higher, but I had no choice. I immediately called Hertz customer service. The representative told me she would cancel the reservation at no charge. We will see if that actually happens. If I had rented through a third party, I could not have received a refund from Hertz. In researching this problem, it seems there is little the consumer can do if a car company does not honor even a prepaid reservation. It also seems that Hertz is frequently in the situation of having no cars. From this experience, I learned not to rent from Hertz or it's subsidiaries and do not prepay, even if it saves you a little money. ANA'S discount is with Hertz. I will also be contacting AAA about this problem, as it seems to be a consistent problem with Hertz. I will be teaching out to Hertz to ser if there is any monetary reimbursement for the difference in price.

Terrible service and policies. I rented a car in Ireland and paid for the full insurance almost 50 Euro daily which per sales person covered the tires. We had a flat tire in middle of no where with no spare or jack in the car. After an hour in a narrow road finally someone helped us to call road assistance and they brought a tire and change it which cost us 309 euro but when we returned the car they paid 127 euro which was the cost of tire but not for taxes or the labor. So it seems they expected the tire would drop from sky and get changed without any equipment. They also charged us for tolls which we had paid every time we passed the toll both. Total robbe

On May 20th 2023, I rented a car for 7 days in Massachusetts, first it took me one hour in line and another hour to get to the rental. The service rep told me for the tolls, don't let the box open up, or don't open it, they will charge a lot more money. When I was traveling in the city, the meter box kept opening for no reasons so I tape the box close. Before heading to Springfield Mass on tolls road, $2.50 down $2.50 up and for returning the car on 90 turnpike towards the airport is another $3. I heard. When I got home and check my account, Hertz charge me $56.36 for plate pass, this is unacceptable over charging customers, I will not rent from Hertz again and I need a credit back. I return the rental with the tape on the box with an explanation, I believed they charge me for driving in the city for tolls because of Hertz broken pass/toll box that continue to open when driven in the city.

Tried to rent at Seattle Burien location. Booked on their website, called to double check a car would be available. Got there on the day, was told that they had over 20 reservations but only 5 cars so they would be reserving those for their "platinum" members and gave some lame excuse that Expedia reservations somehow messed up their own. It's 2023, we can fly spaceships but can't coordinate car rentals? Avoid this location; you'll waste your time hoping to save a few dozen bucks. Try Turo, Gig or another carshare app.
