AARP continues to lay senior citizens vulnerable to the false advertisements of Consumer Cellular. Having supported false advertising that Consumer Cellular offers 1 gb of service at $19.00. The company then adds $5.00 whether you opt in or out for autopay. They then add another $4.08 making the total payment for that minimal package $29.08! AARP needs to cease that false advertisement by supporting this cell phone company.

It should be known that AARP and UnitedHealthCare are one and the same company. They promote each other and this is misleading. Furthermore all other programs AARP supports - through reward programs, life and other insurances, medications/prescriptions, etc,,,) are all producing prices ABOVE market value. Since they cater to seniors - some of them not so internet savvy - are made to believe this organization is covering their backs. Seniors are mislead to believe they can trust "big" AARP to present them with the best deals without having to do price checking. Nothing is further from the truth. It's membership is totally useless except if you have money to waste...

I have no problem with UnitedHealthCare per se since I am not a subscriber. But I do have concerns with AARP as an organization as stipulated in my message.
I have been a member for +20 years and NEVER has it been possible for me to find an AARP endorsed product and/or service that was priced below standard market value/price so I could save money. On the contrary. Consequently, the whole organization looses credibility and I will no longer subscribe to these non-existing price savings promises. I was mislead and taken advantage off. No longer, though.

Signing my husband and myself up for AARP was the biggest mistake we could have ever made. The amount of junk mail, spam calls and texts to our phones within the first week was beyond what we could have ever expected! We have no idea how to even fix this, it is a mess. It seems like it is impossible to cancel. For now we cancelled our credit card and phone numbers and removed and doctored all of our information in our account profile to stop the bleeding.

My biggest concern is how this impacts the older community who tend to fall pray to scams at a higher rate. My husband and I are still young enough to know better.

This organization is said to assist and offer a positive experience for seniors, it is quite the opposite, it does nothing but put them in harms way. Stay as far away from the group as possible.

      Dear Ms. M*********,
Thank you for your active AARP membership.
Apologies that you've had a difficult time controlling your AARP communications preferences. I didn't see any calls or chats on your membership profile requesting some assistance. There was just a chat from May 2, that was unrelated to this issue.
Members and others can always visit the AARP Help Center at: https://help.aarp.org/ or speak with an AARP Representative at (888) 687-2277 for assistance.
AARP has a long history, dating to our founding over 60 years ago, of fighting fraud targeting older Americans. You can find information about AARP Fraud Watch Network at: https://www.aarp.org/money/scams-fraud/about-fraud-watch-network/.
Thank you for your feedback. We hope the following months as members will be more pleasurable and rewarding.
      Sincerely,

Once you sign up for auto-renew, they make it near impossible to cancel. Thus they are participating in the kind of financial abuse of elders that they should be protecting us from.

      Avoid at all costs.

      Dear Mr. B********,
I see that you chatted online with us on May 20 to cancel your account. Unfortunately, as mentioned in the chat, you are listed as the secondary member on the account. For security purposes, we need the primary member to authorize cancellation.
The membership has been cancelled and your refund processed as of June 5.
We are sorry to see you go and hope to see you back with us in the future.
      Sincerely,
      Bruce

I’m writing on behalf of my elderly mother. Worst customer service ever. She tried to call with assistance to book hotel and car reservations. Was connected to someone foreign, the issue with that is the accent was so thick neither parent could understand stand him and he was giving out wrong information. If you’re going to outsource to foreign countries to assist the US they NEED to be able to communicate especially with customers who are already hard of hearing and not tech savvy.

Beware of AARP Awards. On May 22, 2023, purchased four Princess Cruise Line gift cards from AARP for $1800. Three if the four cards worked/were redeemed but one had a zero balance and read insufficient funds. I contacted them immediately and they had been "working on it" ever since. Meanwhile, I'm out $450.

SCAM while posing as my best friend. But just think couples, you can buy one get one free on the membership. What a deal -- unless you're single and you can buy one pay for two. Excuse me?

      Dear Bobbie,
Thank you for your many years as an active AARP member and for your comment.
AARP membership provides for a secondary membership for another individual in a household (living at the same address) at no additional charge. This can be a spouse, partner, other family member, friend, caregiver, etc. In many instances, we have mother/daughter, siblings and those caring for (or in the care of) another taking advantage of this added benefit. That said, there is still only one copy of AARP publications sent to a particular address under a membership.
We appreciate your past and continued support.
      Sincerely,
      Bruce

      Dear Mr. H*****,
Thank you for your active AARP membership and for your comments.
I see that you spoke with an AARP representative on April 27. The agent processed your request to suppress solicitations/mailings from AARP and our affiliated service providers. As some of these mailings are prepared ahead of their distribution date, it may take up to 12 weeks for this request to filter through our database and those of our service providers. We appreciate your patience and understanding --- as well as your past and continued support.
      Sincerely,

I get trash spam mail by the bucketload every darn week from businesses that AARP SOLD MY INFORMATION TO!!! I tried to cancel my membership, but you have to phone in to do this. In the meantime, my inbox is full of AARP trash, my mailbox is full of AARP trash, and I want nothing to do with it.....but I will TELL EVERY PERSON I MEET TO AVOID SCAMMING SPAM AARP AND NEVER EVER JOIN, NOR LET YOUR ELDERLY PARENTS JOIN. Dear Ms. F*******,
AARP provides members the ability to control their communication preferences. This is easily accomplished on the "My Account" section of our website, www.aarp.org.
I see that you successfully cancelled your AARP membership on May 6, and a full refund was processed. I have ensured that the email address we have on file is opted-out from receiving future emails and I have suppressed your name and address from receiving mailings sent to you from AARP and our affiliated service providers. As some of these mailings are prepared ahead of their distribution date, this request may take up to 12 weeks.
We are sorry to see you go and hope that you will reconsider the benefits of AARP membership in the future.
      Sincerely,,
      Bruce

Why AARP is a not-for-profit organization is beyond belief. They receive hundreds of millions of dollars in kickbacks from insurance companies. I’m contacting my elected Federal officials to urge them to investigate.
