I am careful about signing up for any services with a recurring cost and am generally well aware of it when I do. It subscription service should not be a mystery and take as many folks by surprise as indicated within these reviews and which I can corroborate with my own experience. When signing up for this service in December I supplied my credit card information and I expected to do so - how else was I supposed to purchase my desired postage? However, my interaction with the service went little further than that at the time. I saw a charge on my card the following month and knew I had missed something. I had never intended to sign up for a recurring fee or a subscription, so it was immediately obvious that I had missed this.Once I was aware of this, I logged in to correct the mistake and quickly switched myself over to the free plan while grinding my teeth. This is the plan I would have signed up for in the first place - I am not a business nor was I looking to send any more than a single parcel/letter with postage that I didn't have access to. Thinking that I wouldn't have to worry about this anymore I shrugged off the loss and went on my way. A few weeks later I get another charge on my card. I had changed over to the free plan weeks ago though! Of course, of course, they bill at the end of the cycle, and despite me not using the service nor having ever done anything within the website that would warrant a charge, I get to pay the full amount and grind my teeth even more. It seems like an entirely anti-consumer practice though. A charge at the end of a billing cycle is all well and good, but that means anyone who needs to make a change, or has made an accident is on the hook for at least one more cycle at the previous rate for any change to take effect. Given how many people here indicate that they did not know they were signing up for a subscription service, I can only surmise that this too is a way to extract money from people rather than provide service.

    Hi ******,

Thank you for sharing your feedback here, ******. We value feedback such as yours, as it helps us continually improve our processes and address any challenges.

We are writing to inform you that we have issued a credit to you in the amount of $39.98.  This has been issued to the credit card on file.  Please allow 3-5 business days for this credit to be applied to your account.  The credit may not be reflected immediately on an online statement.  Please allow one full billing cycle to pass before it is reflected on a paper statement.

We appreciate your concerns regarding our fee structure.  We always bill at the end of our cycles, so the charges you are seeing are for the previous cycle of service.  When a service plan change takes place, the new billing always goes into effect at the end of your next cycle.

Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we are continuously working to refine our processes and enhance the support experience for every customer. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns.

We apologize for any misunderstanding. We hear your concerns and we fully disclose our fees before any account can be created. We don't advertise or offer a free or pay-as-you-go service, and as disclosed and explained during registration, we do charge a $19.99 monthly fee after the 4-Week Trial Period, which ended on your account on 1/20/25.

The fee we charge gives you access to services of the *********** and the license to print official U.S. postage. Its a flat fee that is not determined by how much postage you print. Stamps.com is a vendor licensed by the ****, and all paid postage goes directly to the ***********. In order to offer our standard service, we do charge a monthly subscription fee,as stated in our Terms of Service:

    www.stamps.com/conditions

We never charge people without their full agreement during our online registration process.  *********** fee is not based on usage or activity.  The monthly subscription service fee that Stamps.com charges is for access of the Stamps.com software, which allows customers to print postage from the comfort of their home or small office using just a PC and a printer.  *********** is a monthly subscription service so its not based on usage of the software, but rather on having access to using it.

We believe in full disclosure, and information about our fees is available on our website, interface, Terms, and FAQs.

If we can help you any further, please let us know.

    Sincerely,

    The Stamps.com Customer Support Team

I am filing this complaint regarding my account with ********************** ([Username: ellefant123!, Customer ID #: *******]). For years, I was unknowingly charged monthly fees totaling $991.44, despite never using the account or even logging in. I only became aware of these charges when the registered payment card expired, and I received an email about a billing issue.Stamps.com never provided regular communication or billing notices during this period, making the subscription charges deceptive and easy to miss. When I attempted to log in to address the issue, I was blocked from accessing the account unless I updated payment details, which raises serious questions: If I am being billed for account usage, why is access restricted? Alternatively, if I cannot access the account, service fees should not apply. This practice appears sneaky and misleading. It aligns with numerous complaints from other users about unclear subscription terms and ongoing charges without their knowledge. For example, on BBB: ****** *. (12/23/24): "They billed me monthly without informing me or sending invoices." ***** *. (11/13/24): "I was signed up for a $20/month subscription without my knowledge, losing over $300." ******* *. (8/26/24): "I was charged $20/month for over a year without knowing I had a membership."The ************************ (***) has guidelines under the Negative Option Rule, requiring companies to clearly disclose subscription terms, obtain consent, and make cancellation easy. Stamps.coms practices violate the spirit of these rules.I request a full refund of $991.44 for unused services, dismissal of the $359.82 balance accrued after the card expired, and immediate closure of my account. I expect a resolution in writing without requiring a phone call to customer support, as that appears to be a delay tactic. This issue is also being shared with **************** and my legal counsel. Stamps.com must address this promptly and fairly.Sincerely,Elle

Very misleading company. I just wanted to print a label and ended up not being able to print a label and charged anyways. Tried canceling but said it would take 4-6 weeks for a refund although they were able to charge immediately. Tried to get someone on the phone but sat on hold for over 30 min. The live agent chat is only automated. Definitely Beware of this company

Absolutely infuriating. I used their service ONCE for a $4 label to send something to get repaired and I was somehow signed up for a $20/mo subscription without my knowledge. I didn't notice until over a year later, meaning I've lost over $300 because of this shady company.
