Made an appointment for window replacement. In the process, I added a tub area to be remodeled. When the measurer came out, I was told 5 of my windows had to be "special" which would have cost me more than I wanted. When I told the salesperson I wanted to think about it, I was told I had to had to pay $3500 for them to come out. I said I thought this was a free quote. Because they had started the process, I had to pay that fee. I went through the process to include 5 more windows that were not included in the initial quote. With that, my bill increased to more than $16,000. To confirm with the sales person, ****, who has not return my texts or calls, that those specialty windows cost me approximately $5000 to include the larger window shutters for them. He said yes. I bit the bullet and continue. Upon installation, it was determined that I didn't need the "special" windows after all. Now the company wants to credit me only $1400 for the mistake they made not to include the window shutters. I was told I could use them for whatever. I told them, but I didn't order them. If I do not sign the new finance papers, the other windows that were installed will not be under warranty. Utterly ridiculous!! I should have done my due diligence and contacted the BBB before calling them out.Business Response

We purchased a kitchen agreement. This included cabinet refacing, new cabinet doors and drawers, new countertops, new countertop height, new sink and refacing of the built-in area upon entering the home.We had issues the whole way stemming from the salesman who sold us, the measuring guy who measured most things wrong, the workers who took our old cabinets (never returned them-in fact, was told the projhect manager took them to his home) and were unable to leave us in a functioning kitchen. We also had some issues with the managers and I can provide further notes on that too. To summarize, Mad City told us they were almost done when we asked to them leave but in fact: 1. We have no cabinet drawers (those are going to be weeks out), you (and by you I mean your field manager took them to his house, according to the contractors) took our old doors and drawers. You cant promise me when the new ones will be measured, ordered and installed.2. The countertops all have to be remeasured and then cut and later installed.3. The sink has to be installed.4. They havent even started on the built in (which I was ok with but, again, you took our doors and drawers to it too)5. The cabinets have countless imperfections.6. The laminate looks terrible.7. You took out a cabinet we didnt want taken out.8. You have 14 drawers to still install as well as the lazy *****.I would love to get the money I paid them back as we no longer have their product in our home.Business Response

Regarding this complaint. Mad City Legal was in communication with the Customers attorney. We submitted a response to the customers attorney on 5/17/24 asking for resolution. The customers attorney has not responded to date. A back story from ********'s perspective. There were multiple mismeasured items in the kitchen that typically take 2-3 days turnaround to reorder and receive for installation. The customer asked us to leave the home leaving work uncomplete. Some materials were left on site and other materials (which were reordered due to the initial mismeasure) are at the warehouse in ******. The customer and/or the customers attorney have not allowed us to gain entry to complete or make repairs to the project in question. Once we receive contact from the customers attorney, we would be happy to continue the project or negotiate the cancel of this project to cover our non-refundable expenses if they would not allow us back in the home to complete the project.
In response to Mad City taking materials that were removed from the home. Anything that is deemed demolition/ or to be removed to install new materials is to be discarded in a dumpster. I cannot speak to what happens to the materials after they are removed and brought back to our dumpster unless it is requested on contract to save the material for the homeowner. This was not requested on contract.
We will reach back out to the customers attorney via our attorney in hopes of gaining a response.

The sales dates was Nov 22 2023 In total $29,000 I paid for a good qualitty window I expected to get good quality windows installed as that was what I paid for.I was told they would be much better insulated window than the windows I had that were almost 30 years old. When I agreed to buy the windows August of 23. I think they told me they would be installed in abut 6-8 weeks. When they called me to install the windows in November they were all the wrong size and had to be reordered. At that time I added 4 more windows to the new order. They installed a poor quality window. The windows had a lot of condensation on them and had to be wiped down 2 or 3 times a day and the water off the windows damaged the window ***** that then needed to be ***laced. The condensation on the windows then froze on the inside of the house.I never had ice on the inside with my old windows that I had and also have pictures of old window same day as some of the pictures of new windows.I called them out to check the windows and there *** that came out used a thermal gun and said there was problems with the windows and they would take care of it.He also said that the humidity should be 20-25%. I said that is to low and if you look online what I fould is they recomened 40 to %50 or 40 to 60%.My house was at 40% when they came to check it.When they came back to fix the problem all they did was remove the sill and trim insulate what they missed the first time and put on new sill and trim. Some of the windows were not insulated well and some were. The worst window that froze over the worst did not need any more insulation.Business Response

Customer had filed a complaint with the Attorney General of Minnesota prior to this submission. Our response, which is attached, discussed our involvement with the situation, and there have also been multiple conversations with the customer around humidity levels and condensation. We indeed had service appointments to rectify all deficiencies, which were accomplished. Upon our most recent visit, it was discovered that all windows were installed and finished correctly. Humidity levels were reading between 42-45% in varying parts of the house with outside temps being just at or below freezing. Industry standard is 30-35% indoor relative humidity (Meaning as temperatures decrease so should humidity inside the home) to prevent condensation, and readings had been up to 10% higher than the recommended levels. ******** was educated at that point that condensation would transpire and was provided with condensation information sheets supplied direct from the manufacturer. Additionally, with temps being at or below freezing at the time of that visit, it was further discussed that condensation would begin to ice over. Customer said they would not be reducing their humidity levels because that was not comfortable for them, and based on their own research, was not healthy. It was educated that the recommended levels could be diverted from, however, they would, in turn, see condensation build up that would need to be addressed to prevent any damage or mold. Additionally, it was recommended using a fan in any or all affected rooms creating additional air flow that would help reduce condensation build up.Customer Answer

I do not agree with mad city. I never had ice form on my the inside of my home with old windows. The new windows let in more cold then the old ones ever did.
The first time they came out here when it was still cold out side and they used the thermal gun the person from mad city said there was problem and they would fix it.
I have many pictures to show how bad the windows are. Is there an email I can send them to. Sorry I am not good with computers and do not know how to attach them.

My wife and I attempted to cancel window installations one day after our initial purchase. The cancellation was due to budget issues. We were informed in the initial consolation that, per NYS law, we had three business days to cancel the order and get our money back without penalty. Day one after the purchase, we called and asked to initiate the cancellation process. We were told a field manager would come to our house the next day at 6:30 pm to have us sign the paper work needed to complete the request. The next day (day two) the manager never showed up, though he did call from a number marked "spam", and left a gargled voicemail that neither of us could understand. After two hours of waiting, we called Mad City and were told that the manager had been overbooked and needed to cancel. We set up a new time for the following day, and confirmed the company had our correct phone numbers on file. The next day, (the last day in the cancellation window), the manager again did not show. We called an hour after the scheduled time, and were told, again, that the manager had been overbooked and called us to let us know. We did not receive any call from any manager. Finally, after another hour of waiting and more attempts to contact the company, we were told the cancelation department would call us the next day to process our request. I asked if being outside the three day cancellation window would impact our ability to receive a refund. The guy on the phone said it "should" be fine. My wife and I then drove 40 minutes to the Mad City Rochester office, which, according to their website, was open ******************************************* person. The offices were closed. At this point, it feels like the company is purposefully complicating and mishandling our requests for cancellation in order to "run out the clock" on the three day cancellation window. As of now, we still have not been able to successfully complete a cancellation request that was initiated three days ago.Business Response

Had them install a walk in bathtub. Have asked regional manager to call by leaving a voicemail at the number given to me on a sheet of paper at the end of the job. This paper also states I will get a f/u call. There are some minor things that need to be completed, and I was promised they would come back and do, but they have NOT been done, nor have I received a call to talk about it. three deep scratches are in the bathtub (I assume from install), caulking not done, final hand rail not installed, toilet not attached to floor. This makes me think that the lifetime guarentee that I knew I was paying a premium for is essentially going to be worthless as they do not call you back. Filled out online form on a social media site and they harrassed me with nearly 20 phone calls from at least 11 different phone numbers in less than an hour. I had to start blocking them. I shouldn't have to contact the BBB to be moved to a DNC list. Since I first contacted the BBB, Mad City has spam called me in total 39 times from 25 different numbers in 5 days. They left no messages, just relentless calling. I am contacting a lawyer about this harassment.

When my husband and I decided we wanted to get our shower redone, we had multiple companies come out to give us quotes. We decided in the end to go with Mad City Windows and Bath, and have regretted it ever since! Sitting in my kitchen they claimed to have the best product on the market! Only needs to be cleaned once every two weeks the caulk is supposed to be antimicrobial. I can say it is far from that! I clean this bathroom religiously with the recommended product and we have had constant mold growth. They have been out 4 times to recaulk this shower and it keeps coming back. They reasons they gave me were the installers hands must be dirty, or they smoked cigarettes before install. Also said something about the smoke/nicotine on their fingers putting carcinogens in our shower. GROSS! Now they are supposed to come out tomorrow to recaulk again, and they just called to reschedule. Now I have rearranged my schedule again for them to come out and now I have to do it again! This is unacceptable. I cant keep doing this every 6-10 months (which is what its been). They even told me on the phone I am not alone they have to do this for tons of customers! To which I said, then dont you think its time to get a new caulk provider??? At this point I just want to rip this whole shower out and do it ourselves. Mold is unacceptable in a brand new $10,000 shower.Business Response
Date: 08/07/2024
In response to the homeowners complaint, we have been out 2 times since November 2022 to recaulk the shower. We had a 3rd visit scheduled for 8/6/24, but the service technician called in sick and we had to reschedule the appointment to 8/9/24. In conversations with the homeowner we have given them the reasons/causes of caulk molding or yellowing in the hopes to mitigate future caulk related issues. The caulk is covered under our lifetime warranty and has been replaced at no additional cost to the homeowner whenever an issue has arose. Mad City will continue to honor that warranty at no additional cost to the homeowner. There are only so many causes to have caulk mold within 6 monthes like this homeowner keeps experiencing, the most likely being the products being used in the shower (shampoo, conditioner and soaps). Mad City does not see caulk issues of this frequency, and every location uses the same caulk as our manufacturer has specific caulk we need to use to honor the lifetime warranty. Warranty claims do not warrant a refund, so I will be contacting the homeowner to try and pinpoint what is the root cause in the hopes to rectify the issue completely.Customer Answer

The only cleaning products I use are the ones recommended by the company. Their employee is the one that said many customers have to have their caulk replaced those were not my words. I was told by their employee they rescheduled my repair because an important issue came up and they had to address that first. As if mold isnt an important issue. I highly doubt my shampoo and conditioner is causing mold as I have used this for years and never had an issue. I asked if we could replace the caulk ourselves and was told it voids the entire warranty. So you are telling me ** stuck having to have this bathroom recaulked twice a year? Unacceptable.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.I am getting different responses one employee to the next, and I truly find their reasoning and explanations to be false. It is not my shampoo causing the mold. Slapping a bandaid on it and recaulking every 6-10 months isnt the answer. I have child with serious allergies to mold and this is unacceptable to me and my family.

I have spoken with both of the homeowners, and they were offered the option to choose any caulk they approved of after doing their own research. I explained that utilizing their warranty doesnt warrant compensation or a refund. My offer of allowing the homeowners the option to pick out a different brand of caulk, and having Mad City remove and apply the caulk that they chose still stands.Initial Complaint

I was told by salesman that it would cost 60-80000 $ for a kitchen remodel. They quoted 28000$ for cabinet refacing so I thought well its cheaper than a full remodel. By the way they have only a 3 day cancellation policy. They ask you and tell you over and over how much you need and want to do that. The total with financing is 47000$ . I looked on computer and it told me that a kitchen remodel ****************** 15000-2000. So I figure he gave me a price for a 600000$ price home because it is definitely a lie how much kitchen remodel cost. Horrible business practicesBusiness Response
Date: 08/05/2024
Our prices are based on items chosen and number of openings to create the price. The financing is based on your credit and current rates. You are able to secure your own financing the finance companies we offer are not part of Mad City and yes when you need financing the final price is based on the qualifying rate and term you chose. There is never a charge for early payoff in ***
The reason there is only a 3 day right to cancel is because that is the state requirement. Customer's often want a speed install date, to do this we need to speed up the measure and odering personal. We do not want to invest the time and cost of the measure and ordering personal if your contract is not final.
I will contact you regarding your kitchen contract today.

I had kitchen cabinets installed back in January 2024. I was told that the company was 100% guaranteed and that they had been in business doing kitchens for years. We we were also told that they would be in and out within a week which still today here in July 2024, I am still having issues with my kitchen. It started off first by them ordering the incorrect drawers, then the cabinets. Once they installed the cabinets , i was told that the cabinets did not come with edges and that was extra , but later " they came with edges". My lazy ***** door fell off within 2 weeks, they did an horrible touch up job with the caulking. Still today i have 2 edges that have fallen off the cabinets and screws that have been screwed in to far and have cosmetic issues. I have text messages and pictures where i have been trying to communicate with the field manager. They are are very poor to respond to your issues. I finally received a response from the field manager 2 weeks after me reaching out a month or two ago. I have also been informed by two current employees including their own manager that my kitchen was the first kitchen they have ever did cabinets on. I was very upset and felt that the sells rep should had been upfront with me. They are charging me $50.000 for this renovation and i definitly think it is not worth that. When they finally completed the job, the clean up was awful, there was saw dust eveywhere. They caused me days at work because me having to be home for them to come out and fix their mess. I am very displeased with their services. I would not recommend them for your kitchen. I feel i am being over charged and the quality of the content is nothing fancy and it is not $50.000 worth. I have tried to be patient with the company but this is unprofessional. I have messages from the manger telling me that i was mishandled and for one of their own to say that speaks alot about the company and how myself and my family has been treated...Business Response
