      Our company launched web sales and needed a way to track sales tax in multiple states and jurisdictions. Avalara was suggested by our accountant. We signed up and had nothing but trouble from the beginning. The first month they filed sales tax for us, 20 of the 22 numbers on the tax return - pulled directly from their records - were incorrect. We requested cancellation and full refund of almost $2000 they had charged us, as they never provided a single service. It took a month to get the cancellation and refund approved and now an additional two months have passed - no refund. Our experience with Avalara has been utterly frustrating, to put it mildly. Bottom line, they did not provide a single service they promised. It is also worthy to note that anytime you call, you will be talking to someone from REMOVED. No blame to those folks but communication is extremely difficult and they have no knowledge of the service which this company claims to provide.

      I purchased AvaTax for my small business. I was promised that AvaTax integrates well with REMOVEDInvoice. Unfortunately, I found out that using AvaTax removes shipping fees from my invoices. I worked with their support team and they couldnt come up with a solution.I asked to cancel my one year subscription and Avalara refused to refund me. Now they are charging me every month for a service that I dont use and wasted a lot of time try to integrate. I do not recommend this company to anybody.

      My company encountered several challenges while setting up Avalara, which led us to contact their support team multiple times. We were repeatedly assured we would not be billed until these issues were resolved. However, that turned out not to be the case. After contacting support again, we were promised a refund but have yet to receive it. Additionally, our account was automatically upgraded without our consent because our numerous support interactions exceeded the allowed limit. All of these problems originated during the initial setup period, when we were told we would not be charged. The company claimed the upgrade was automatic and non-refundable, even though their training video said we could opt out, which I pointed out to them. Their reply was to direct us to our account manager, Pranava step that seems likely to result in more charges and no resolution.

      If we could use negative stars we would. Avalara has horrendous customer support. They don't care about their customers. They sell you on services that aren't necessary. We are a very small business and charged us an exorbitant fee! I would never recommend their services to anyone.

      If I could give them a zero, I would. You start out with a small cost and then you get hit many times with outrageous amounts. Don't think you will get your subscription canceled easily. Even when you show proof of cancellation emails - they continue to bill you. I am beyond unhappy. If you contact the company number and you hit 4 for "other" which is one of the choices, it simply sends you back to listen the the original recording. Unbelievable poor service!

      This is absolutely the worst company. I used them with an automatic renewal for my small business that barely sells any items. In 2025, they claim they sent me a renewal notice (not an invoice) that had a price jump to $940 (I was paying very little prior). They withdrew the money from my bank account even though I had not used their service in almost a year and refused to refund it even after I called, emailed and cancelled the service. If you choose to use them I would not recommend linking your bank details as they will not refund any money they take. On top of this, they emailed me back with the wrong name which tells me that this is probably the response to many people who ask for a refund and they just copy and paste the "we're sorry but it's company policy" schtick.

      This is the worst company I have ever done business with. They have taken over $20,000.00 from my company and their services have never worked. They just renewed us for another $10,000.00 after I emailed them that I did not want to renew before the renewal period.Avoid this company at all costs.

      They are not educated - i have been signed up for 4 months and this still doesn't work. no one responds or will set it up for us and we are still doing our taxes manually

      Do not use them for your business. They have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I received a $1,000 bill for ? nothing. I asked them to tell me what it was for and they never responded, then I went ahead and emailed them telling them I couldn't believe the horrible service I was receiving, in return, I get an automated message back saying my message went to an unmonitored mailbox when I emailed my "service manager" directly. They will cut you off and make it impossible to find a solution for the problems they caused. They set up my sales and tax integration incorrectly and now I have a report I can't use. REMOVED. I will make sure, I leave a review in every single platform I find to make people aware of your horrible service.

      Avalara provides no way to cancel your "subscription" online creating an unnecessary obstacle. They switched our billing from month-to-month to Annual without my knowledge or consent. They have increased our pricing from $170 to $245 per month within 2 years with no added states, no additional revenue, no additional complexities. They just decided on top of the service charge to charge just for connecting to our big commerce store and for connecting to our re-billing App. When I requested to cancel my account to our REMOVEDManager Feb 14, 2025 as well as opening a case on Avalara's website to cancel my "subscription" immediately I was ignored until after the renewal date of Feb 16th. Feb 17th they told me I have to fill out a form to cancel via an email to my personal email that I don't check as often. When I called on Feb 18th to see why I haven't heard anything and confirm that my account was closed, they notified me of the Feb 17th email to my personal email with the form link to fill out. I filled out the form to cancel and was notified that the request has been processed and they will close my account August 17th, 2025 (IN 6 MONTHS). Then two days later they invoice me the monthly invoice on top of the annual invoice they already pulled from my account (double billing me - the second time I have been double billed by Avalara). I'm already starting communication with our legal team and am blown away how terrible the customer service has been. They may be violating Utah law (HB 174) on top of just being a terrible company to work with. I have had other issues with their sales tax reports and rates being inaccurate and improperly setup and it took months to resolve just so I could pull an accurate sales tax report and charge everyone that should be charged sales tax and report the correct amount (We only collect in 2 states). It has been nothing short of a nightmare working with Avalara.
