Important information

  • Government Actions:
Government Action: BBB reports on known government actions involving business’ marketplace conduct:
United States of America Federal Trade Commission v DoNotPay Inc.
On January 14, 2025, DoNotPay Inc. entered into a consent agreement (Docket No C-4812) due to allegations brought against the company by the Federal Trade Commission.

The settlement stems from the September 2024 complaint that alleges DoNotPay advertised “the world’s first robot lawyer” representing that its AI service operated like a human lawyer. According to allegations, the “robot lawyer” was never tested to establish it operated at the level of a human lawyer. Subscribers complained that the service neglected to ask for relevant information, failed to consider important legal issues, and generated legal documents that were not fit for use.

Without admitting or denying the allegations, DoNotPay is ordered to pay $193,000.00 in momentary relief and to notify consumers who subscribed to the service between 2021 and 2023 informing them of the settlement. DoNotPay is also prohibited from advertising that its service performs like a real lawyer unless supported by evidence.
