I am writing because every term, I have issues with the financial aid department and their lack of communication with me in regard to my student loans. I am aware of their deadline, and I am aware that I am not the only student having issues with Strayer's financial aid department disbursing our loans in a timely manner and accurately. I have always had issues with their financial aid department and find myself doing their jobs for them every term. I always make sure that I have everything in order on my end before the terms start so that there are no issues with my aid amount or delays in disbursement, but yet and still every term I encounter these same issues, and they always try to justify or make up excuses for the lack of effort and incompetence! I am mentally exhausted to the point that I am considering transferring to complete my last degree program. All I want is for them to get it right and organized for once!!! Some of us students rely on these funds to be disbursed on the scheduled dates because we need them to support our educational journey, and some of us are unemployed to focus on our education! My funds were supposed to disburse yesterday, and they still haven't.Customer Answer

I am filing this complaint because I have not gotten a response about my previous complaint. I still have not received my GRAD LOAN disbursement to pay for my Fall 2025 tuition. It should not take this long when the school already has the funds.Customer Answer

SU200145395 Good morning! I took all necessary steps on my end months ago to ensure that there would be no delay in the processing and disbursement of my Grad loan every quarter, and yet it has never been disbursed on the specific dates provided by the student aid site. I'm fully aware of the workload around this time and of the many students who attend Strayer, but every single term, I have an issue with my aid, and it's not because of me. It's inconvenient that I have to go through this every single term now that I am in ************ my loans would always disburse on said dates listed on the disclosure statement previously. I made great grades and have a 3.9 GPA, and on the ****** list! It's not just about money but I need these funds for educational and living purposes.Business Response

Fraudulent charges by Strayer UniversityCustomer Answer

Classes were very expensive compared to other universities and for no reason at that. I think the curriculum Is trash. Not much learning going on when professors are using the same exact assignments every semester with answers that are easily found by using ******. Literally for every assignment. They don't offer too many good programs. Strayer lures you in via false advertisements and a false sense of support but you don't realize it's too late until you interact with fellow Strayer students and see how dismayed they truly are. The list of negative experiences is never ending. I am in tremendous debt from going to Strayer University. They were not upfront and honest about what I would need to pay back. Now my tuition bill is 3 times higher than what I borrowed. That is crazy for a working person to pay back. Strayer needs to be more upfront about the cost. Would not recommend them to anyone due to the cost. My mom had to co-sign all of my student loans because my credit was not good enough. Now she is deceased and I am stuck with over *******, including interest worth of student loan debt that I cant possibly pay back because of Strayer University being greedy and taking advantage of elderly people and innocent people just for financial gain. I need these loans forgiven because I am not going to be able to afford to pay them. I went to a school that scammed me out of thousands of dollars and I was too full to see it, and my co-signer, who is now deceased. This debt has been a heavy weight on my shoulders for many years because I never found a job that honored my degrees. I am barely surviving.Customer Answer

I am a student at Strayer University, and I am filing this complaint due to an ongoing issue with my financial aid refund not being disbursed within the legally required timeframe.Timeline of ************************* aid posted to my account.Shortly after, it was inadvertently returned by Strayer, citing a status change. My status did NOT change.7/22 The aid reposted to my ********** of today (insert date), no refund has been issued.Strayers own website states that refunds are processed within 59 business days once posted. Last semester, the same type of adjustment took only 2 days. This delay is unreasonable and inconsistent with their policy.Furthermore, per Department of Education regulation (34 CFR 668.164(e)), schools are required to disburse Title IV credit balances within 14 calendar days of the balance being created. Strayer is now beyond that limit, which raises concerns of federal non-compliance and possible mismanagement of funds.I have contacted financial aid multiple times, the phone line hangs up after being on hold over an hour. escalated to student services, and received vague responses such as were waiting for adjustments. No one can provide a timeline or resolution.Impact:This delay has caused financial hardship and stress. I rely on these funds for living expenses, and the lack of transparency is unacceptable. What I Am Requesting:Immediate release of my refund to Heartland ECSI (their refund processor).Written confirmation of compliance with federal regulations.Business Response

I am a student at Strayer University. I have reached out via email and phone for two weeks straight trying to figure out why my student loans have not posted to my account, and have received zero response. The school will not communicate with students regarding what is going on with our funds, our tuition remains unpaid, even though we have been approved for the loans, have accepted the loans, and have completed all requirements needed for the loans. Strayer University will not respond to regarding any of this chaos. Something is going on. Accreditation should be reevaluated if this is how they treat their students who pay a large amount of tuition to even attend the school.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: the school failed to communicate through the process, failed to respond to emails with direct answers to questions, failed to keep students up to date about their financial aid, and failed to explain what they were doing with our funds. Process changes need to be made. Accountability needs to be taken. What steps will be taken in the future to prevent this from occurring again?

I am reaching out yet again because I am tired of having to do everything and check to see if the financial aid department at this university does their job every single term/quarter. It's always an issue when it comes to our financial aid documents, disbursements and refunds. I have exhausted all of my resources, when I reach out to people from the university, they all give me the run-around and no clarity on what is going on/details. I have to deal with this every single term, and I am mentally exhausted! Most of us are between jobs and I only have my veterans benefits to live off of, so I rely on these funds to live! I make exceptional grades in every program that I have completed, and I am obligated to inquire about my funds because I am the one that has to repay these loans. I call financial aid to wait hours and when they pick up, they either hang up or give me an attitude as if I am bothering them. I am fed up with their unprofessionalism and their lack of organization. They have until the 25th to disburse loans I realize this but every term the drag their feet and ignore our inquiries! I reached out a month ago to ensure that these issues didn't arise and here we are yet again,Business Response

Complaint Description:I am a veteran and enrolled at Strayer Universitys online program after being assured by their staff that my Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits were active and would fully cover my tuition. Before enrolling, I informed the university that I believed my GI Bill eligibility had expired. I stated clearly that I would not attend unless everything was covered and I would not be responsible for any charges.Strayer staff told me their system showed my benefits were valid and that everything was all good. Based on this information, I enrolled. I have now received a bill for $1,375.00 and was informed by email on June 3, 2025, that my account would be sent to collections if I did not pay.I have attempted to contact the university multiple times to resolve the issue:On June 4, 2025, I called their billing line and was on hold for over 12 minutes before being disconnected to a full voicemail box.On June 5, 2025, I called again and spoke with a VA Coach named ***, who referred me to a student advisor but transferred me to another VA Coach instead. That coach, Fin, told me I needed to contact ************************** and gave me a number that did not provide a way to speak to ********* date, no one at Strayer has provided a clear explanation, nor have they taken responsibility for the misinformation that led to this billing error. I have been misled, redirected, and ignored, despite acting in good faith. I am now being threatened with damage to my credit due to charges I should not owe.Resolution Sought:Removal of the $1,375 charge from my account.Written confirmation that my account is cleared and will not be sent to collections.Correction of any reporting that may have been sent to credit bureaus.Strayer should implement a policy that verifies veterans education benefit eligibility before enrollment when students raise concerns.Business Response

More Information...To the BBB Dispute Resolution Team,
Thank you for forwarding Strayer Universitys response.
I confirm that I have been contacted by a representative from Strayer University (**** *******-***** from the Office of Student Affairs), and that an internal investigation is underway regarding my complaint. I was informed that my account would be excluded from collections while they investigate, which I appreciate.
However, as of today, I have not yet received a resolution, nor a formal update on the outcome of the investigation. I am willing to wait a short time for them to complete their internal process, but I would like to keep this complaint open with the BBB until the matter is resolved and the $1,375 charge is addressed.
If necessary, I will consider submitting a FERPA release form to allow more detailed communication through the BBB at a later stage.
Thank you for your time and assistance in helping monitor this matter.

I have submitted several documents to this school regarding my federal financial aid. I have a 4.0 GPA and an A in all of my class yet my financial aid hasn't been approved. The dates set to release financial aid funding were April 16- April 25th 2025, today is April 28th and my funding still hasn't been approved. They have asked me to provide my social security card for verification and I did that. They asked for my marriage license and I provided that they asked for my W2 and wage transcripts and I submitted those as well.Business Response

I started school back in January at Strayer University for the winter semester that ended in March. However I had two different occasions one when I was hospitalized and then on March 5th until March 26th I was incarcerated. So I was withdrawn and failed when I couldn't properly withdraw myself. So they never told me I had a balance when I've been talking to financial aid for the last month. On April 23rd my financial aid dispersed and all of a sudden the 1500 balance appeared on my account in my $1,300 refund was taken and applied to the balance. I've been telling straight a university I need financial help for over 4 weeks I've told them I was homeless and they had no means of anything for their students. Earlier that week they informed me several times that I will be getting a refund when Strayer University knew that in there system they had a $1,500 balance ready to debit my account. And I believe the reason they didn't tell me is because several times I asked him for financial help and they probably felt as if I knew about the balance I probably with withdraw and they wouldn't get their funds. I'm asking for my financial aid refund to be returned to me immediately I am in a financial crisis and there's no way I can continue School bouncing from hotel to house to here to there. I'm trying to get the documents showing that I was incarcerated I have documentation showing me talking to the financial aid office where they couldn't informed me of any debts before my financial aid was dispersed and and two of my loans and Pell ***** were dispersed on April 15th and they didn't inform meBusiness Response

BBB Business Profiles are provided solely to assist you in exercising your own best judgment. BBB asks third parties who publish complaints, reviews and/or responses on this website to affirm that the information provided is accurate. However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.
When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.
BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.
