On August 15, 2023, BBB requested that Legacy Pest Control substantiate, modify, or discontinue advertising claims which were made on various pages of their website: https://legacypestcontrolut.com/
Superiority Claim:
The business’s website claims “Legacy Pest Control outperforms the competition,” and similar claims. According to BBB’s Code of Advertising, deceptively or falsely disparaging advertising of a competitor’s products or services must not be used. Comparisons should fairly reflect all aspects of the products or services equally.
Objective Superlative:
The business’s website asserts “Utah’s #1 pest control company,” and similarly made assertions. According to BBB’s Code of Advertising, claims that relate to tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service can be used when the advertiser has substantiation. An example of a claim requiring substantiation would be "#1 car sales in the city.”
Environmental Benefit:
The business states “our all-natural, green pest control products for Utah lawns… Eco-Friendly,” and similar statements. According to BBB’s Code of Advertising, advertisers should not make broad, unqualified general environmental benefit claims like “green” or “eco-friendly.”
As of October 13, 2023, the business hasn’t fulfilled BBB’s requests to substantiate, modify, or discontinue these claims.
