      Shortly after my heart attack in Sept’2002 we had a representative from Unum come to our house a recommend policies for both my husband and me. Looks now like ambulance chasing to me. We were very vulnerable and signed up. We have paid our increasing premiums since 2,2003 but finally decided to stop.
      Two times we were hoping to get some assistance. When my spouse had a stroke in 2018 and when I experienced trouble with basic self-maintenance due to pain. In each case Unum did everything to deny help.
      Now they are off-loading home care to an external agency and we have to organize any care we might need.
      I called today and wanted to know whether some of that money was still available. They affirmed that fees I paid in 50K+ was available in an escrow type of thing, but not the money my husband has paid. We have no idea why this difference.
      Unum may fulfill its business reporting duties to the government and to BBB, but it is merely a front for those like us it insured.

      Just horrible. While I know that predeterminations are not a guarantee of payment, Unum did not stand behind a predetermination for a dental claim for my husband, despite speaking with the dentist and seeing everything in the charts that clearly indicated the crowns were medically necessary. We appealed it twice, per their process, and they continued to ask if it was medically necessary, which the charts clearly stated by the dentist. They just decided to ignore it and leave us with a bill almost $1,000 which was before covered.

      If I could give a negative star rating I would! This company is the worst! Causes more hardship and aggravation when you need to use the benefits YOU PAY FOR! No one talks to each other, they send emails for every little thing that is pointless, you can never speak with your "representative", a supervisor is NEVER available, they read off script, they don't want to help you, they want to frustrate you so that you give up! Last year filed a claim due to a car accident - filed in January didn't get payment until April!!! There is no accountability whatsoever! I wish my company would go elsewhere for insurance!

      Worst company ever, after weeks of waiting, calling to check, and resubmitting paperwork, i was told on the phone by a representative that the specialist reviewing my paperwork just “did not review or process any of the paperwork within our turnaround time” waiting on 70 hours of pay for weeks

      I was in a car accident in December 04,2024
      My company were I work do everything to help me with the std
      Since December of 2024 I’m waiting on n then to have a payment
      But they just keep sending it to me more and more paper or form to fill out but nothing about receiving money
      They are not doctors or nobody to certify any documents
      And if you said something
      They will report you to the company you work
      But they don’t pay the std
      That’s the only thing they need to do

      Literally the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. Was So rude to my mother.. all she was trying to do was understand why her claim got denied. Whoever “Mackenzie” is needs to be fired with that bad attitude that she has. Do Better.

      Made a short term disability claim online. "Heather" called and left a message that they need some questions answered. Gave me a number to call. Was not the correct number. Called they're main number and "Dylan" wink wink could not help and said he'd have Heather call me again so we can go on playing this game forever EVEN though Heather said she was leaving notes with the call center that they would be able to help. BAD BAD BAD company.

      This company makes getting disability payouts next to impossible! In September, I was approved for 12 weeks of short term disability from 10/17/24 through 1/9/25 due to an extensive spinal fusion surgery. Didn’t receive any payments until November after several phone calls to them where their customer service people could not tell me why I wasn’t approved on their side. Their website constantly says that my claim is under review. Finally, I’m told by Unum customer service that my physician hasn’t uploaded their paperwork even though they DID the uploads and Unum acknowledged the uploads via texts to me. I ultimately had to personally do the physician uploads to get Unum to do their job. Six weeks later, Unum requires an additional review by 12/10 - out of nowhere and no explanation for why the review is required. All forms were completed and uploaded by the required parties immediately after a checkup with the surgeon on 12/6. It’s now 12/16 and still “pending” with UNUM. How can they legally withhold payment without providing an explanation? I can’t call them because I’m hard of hearing and every single customer person that answers a phone speaks such heavily accented English that they are impossible to understand. There are absolutely no email addresses available to contact them on their website and no chats, and even when I found an email via a google search online, they didn’t reply. This company is absolutely ridiculous and I would like the CEOs to not get paid for no reason and see how they like it!!! This needs to be investigated because everyone that has a claim gets this runaround and it has become obvious that Unum tries their hardest to delay/not pay every claim, even the most obvious and deserving claims. I hope they have a Merry Christmas while I’m having a Broke Christmas since I’m not getting paid!!!!!!

      Unum, apparently, is the cheapest company for employers to use. I made sure all of my short term disability paperwork was completed 3 weeks before I took my leave. I called them several times just to be sure everything was in order. My first concern is my payment never arrived. I called and was told by one rep that it shows EFT to my bank account, I asked to speak with someone else and was told a check was mailed. That's been almost 2 weeks ago. I have called several times and no one can tell me why it wasn't direct deposit to begin with. When asking for a supervisor, the current rep still attempts to fix the situation by giving unhelpful info. After asking for a supervisor, I was told they are not available and I will need to schedule a call back. Needless to say, that never happened. I'm already on leave and not at my best so I don't need the extra stress.

      Unum is the worst company to deal with when it comes to filing claims. I had surgery and out of work til I heel. They are denying my claim stating they need more information. I faxed over many documents stating why I can't work. I called their customer service representative and they kept transfering me to different representative and my assigned case worker never picks up the phone. They never return your calls. they very rude to you. I paid alot of money into this disability plan and I can't get a response on what is going on. They lie to you and give you the run around. I guess I have to call a lawer on this so I can get my benefits. People need this to pay bills.
