In October of 2023 I signed up for the Medical Billing and Coding program through Penn Foster. After completion I would have my CPC-A. The A means apprentice, meaning would have to work two years as a medical billing and coder to get my apprentice taken off of my certificate. Now theyre offering what they call Medical Billing and Coding Professional. It comes with practice exams, a membership to the **** and the A would be dropped after completing the program. I called and asked to switch programs. I was told Id have to pay the remaining balance on my current program even though I wouldnt be finishing the classes and pay full price for the new program. How is that fair? I could *possibly* transfer my credits but I wouldnt know what credits could transfer till I agreed to switch programs. So essentially Id switch programs and *Unfortunately* no credits would be transferred . I just want to switch to the new program, not have to pay for classes Ive already passed or pay for classes I havent yet taken. I think its very underhanded the way they are handling this situation. Many other students in my ************** are upset at the complete injustice happening. Why should I pay a million or billion dollar company twice for classes Ive passed or have yet to take?! It would make sense to let currently enrolled students switch and pay the difference.Business Response

I enrolled in the ********************* program back in 2023. I since then was sick and went through some financial challenges and asked about dropping out of the semester. I did complete a few classes and was willing to blot out any credits that I have received in order to not be billed for the rest of the semester. I did not even ask for a refund, what I paid, I owed. They were not willing to work that out and sent it to collections. No I am a two time graduate already from there, and I had high hopes for the school, but this put a bitter taste in my mouth now. I am very unhappy about this!Business Response

I was a minor when I signed up for the website Penn Foster on September 22, 2023. When I signed up, I was under the age of 18. I still live in a legally protected status as a minor, which means I cannot legally sign a contract. When I signed up for this website, it asked for my mom's information, so I provided it. It asked for her name and address, that's all. So, I was under the assumption that it was similar to ******** where if you dont pay, they will cancel the service for you. Then, some text popped up on the screen with lots of words I could not understand but it allowed me to continue without reading it, so I assumed it was nothing important. Then, I proceeded to do the class. After doing it for an hour, I was halfway completed with this class, which blew my mind considering it was supposed to be a college class. Turns out it was not a college class, and the school I plan on going to in the future wouldn't even expect anything from a school like this as they made it seem. I just closed the page under the assumption it would be fine. Yeah, they tricked me out of $49, but oh well. Fast forward to some months later, I get a call from my mom informing me that she got a bill in the mail for $1k with her name on it from a collection agency. They have been harassing us ever since, which violates so many laws. I did a bit of digging, and they've been sued for it before. So, if they do this to you, I would recommend taking legal action. If they keep harassing me, I will have no option but to hire a lawyer considering I was and still am under the legal age of majority for my state. They tricked me into a contract when Im not even of the legal age to sign one, and the website makes it seem like its a real school, but most schools wouldn't expect anything from them. They tricked me into thinking I was going to be taking a college class when in reality it was just some random c*** they made from a book course online."Business Response

Basically I signed up for a course here and theyre fine and dandy until they decided to start sending me another students mail and with a different adress and forwarding it to me. They are destroying my credit making up fake classes and now yesterday out of the blue and no logical reason after first off paying over 500$ toward a med assistant class that they decided after I paid half of the class off I wasnt accepted but the credit bureau demanding money and then forged my name through the strangely the same school and different name ******** and not responding and eventually blowing me off stole two 20$ denying me access most likely because I was enrolled in another clas the message saying class cancelled and not refunded but today was the favorite incident. These people belong in a cell because of the obvious if you read the complaints. Not just mine. The other complaints all Similiar. 66$ was withdrawn for absolutely no reason. I went to check the class and it wasnt even put toward the class first of all I am not banking for them to steal money out of my account at theyre will then double dipping by trying to reset the same money they already received or you were denied complete access to a class. Next thing you know that freaking class that your not by no means liable showing on my credit report also with another person who doesnt have the same or adress and they are not only expecting me to pay some made up bill that isnt my name. They forward the mail and steal money when ever they feel like it and it is disgusting and they are white collar criminals that need to be imprisonedBusiness Response

I entered Penn Foster's veterinary technician program about a year ago. I have continually moved forward and made progress in my studies. I went to take an exam, and was given a message that the course was cancelled. I cannot go any further in my studies, or do anything else. on 11/17/2023 i paid in full the course tuition of $899.00 for the small engine repair course after viewing the website and it stating at the completion of the course I would receive a ****** and ******** four cycle manual, and the *** test prep manuals. After completing the course 1/8/2024 I waited till first of FEB, made contact through chat where they stated they would push my completion package. I didn't receive anything in the time frame they state 4-6 weeks after I completed my program. MAR 20 called to check on status, was told my package would get pushed again, still didn't receive anything, but got a back order notice on my student portal that stated if i didn't receive anything by APR 3 to call, I waited an extra day and called APR 4; talked with someone again and I stated that the manual was the wrong one on the backorder form and wasn't the one posted on the website, also stated I didn't get my *** package. APR 6 received manual for Tecumseh that was published in May of 2000, and no *** test prep package still. I feel like i was mislead to enroll and now being given the run around to what I actually should receive. Any assistance would be great appreciated. I am rejecting this response because: The manual sent was published back in May of 2000. Penn Foster states they care about giving the upmost education but handing out material that was published 24 years ago. I would think that schools would want to provide the most up-to-date material that a student is going to face in the real world setting. Also if Penn Foster knew they were making changes and haven't updated the website, how come as a new enrolling student I wasn't informed of the change; other schools/colleges I have attended were very upfront about things printed on materials but was not changed, and they didn't have the documentation updated yet. Seems like a bait and switch tactic because of advertising one thing, then trying to use the disclaimer "we reserve the right to change material if needed". My question is why the need for the change if Tecumseh and craftsman engines are not being produced anymore, but ****** and ******** engines are now the most commonly used engine.

Penn Foster does not advertise or state that students are full/part time. One of the benefits of Penn Fosters programs and the reason so many of our students choose our school is the ability to work at their own pace. The flexibility it affords our students does not allow us to certify our students as attending full-time because each student works independently and at their own individualized pace.

I enrolled into pennfoster medical program on 3/03/2024. After 2 days of being enrolled my acct froze up and I was no longer able to proceed with the program. I called customer service and sent in tickets to get the issue resolved. On the 5th (last day of full refund policy) day I put in a ticket to cancel and get a full refund due to not being able to access my school work. I ended up having to call the next week because it still wasnt cancelled OR fixed and the lady cancelled for me at that time but since she didnt cancel until 3 days after the five day grace ****** I was left with a balance of almost 400 dollars. I called and the learning service said they see where I did put a ticket in on the fifth day and told me to put a ticket in to have the refund resolved. I did this and received a phone call from an ****** on 3/13/2024 apologizing for all the issues I was having and said they had put a ticket in for my refund of the amount I paid to start and that all the cancellation fees were being cancelled. I left it at that and believed it was taken care of. Yesterday 3/30/2024 I received an email saying my 100 dollar payment would be processed on 4/3. I sent a message and the lady I spoke with said that my acct was still active but the acct is still frozen. I just want the fees to be cancelled and the acct to be closed. I have already had to enroll into another school so I wouldnt be behind where I need to be. I attached pictures showing that my acct was listed as inactive and the continue button is greyed out. The account has been that way since two days after I enrolled. I cant get anyone to answer the phone and when they do I get told to put in a ticket. I am at a loss.Business Response
