On August 28, 2023, I entered into a contract with LeafFilter North of New York, LLC to clean the gutters around our house as well as install their Leaf Filter gutter protection system with hangers and other work specified in the contract. The work was to be performed on all gutters except for the front gutter of the house. The contract/transaction number is ********* The contract price is $1232.00 and a down payment of $232.00 was made. The balance is being financed. On September 6, 2023, one person from the business began work on the project, but could not complete it. My wife spoke with a manager on the phone who stated the job would be completed on September 8. On September 8, no one from LeafFilter came to our home, probably due to inclement weather. Since that time, my wife made numerous phone calls to the business in an effort to schedule completion of the job. She was told management would call to reschedule, but no one from the business responded until September 27. At that time, a regional manager from LeafFilter called. An appointment was made for them to return on the afternoon of October 3, 2023 to complete the job. LeafFilter called on October 3 and cancelled the appointment, stating they would call to reschedule. No one from the business has contacted us since that time.

-Gutter protection purchased from. Leaf Filter March 5, 2021.

-Leaf Filter committed to remove old gutter system and install a Leaf Filter protection system in 6” White with a lifetime grantee. The sales person
Assured me that the gutter screens would not be a problem.

-The first year the build up of debris on the screens started and by the fall could be seen from the ground see attached pictures. The next year 2022 the same thing occurred. The first and second year Leaf filter was contacted and they removed the material with no charge. The third year 2023 the same build up was evident and I contacted Leaf Filter and they indicated I would have to pay them $90 to remove the build up, see attached pictures.

-The first year I contacted leaf filter and send them a letter see attached. They came out and reviewed the situation and stated that their hsystem doesn’t work well if you have over hanging trees. They stated that they contacted the sales person and told him he should not have sold me the system under these conditions. No effort was made by Leaf Filter to give me a refund.

      - This system is advertised as the answer to never having to clean your gutters again. Which is not true based on my experience.

System installed on 3/8/2021. System was inspected on 9/15/23.  System found to be working as intended and within manufacturer's specifications.  Customer trees overhead are working as vending machine with debris during fall which means debris is shedding as promised however new debris keeps being replaced during this time of the year. The service fee is applicable after the 1st year per contract D of the contract.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 10/12/2023

I am rejecting this response because:
When leaf filter removes the build up from the screens they use blowers and brush’s. This shouldn’t be necessary if they are working properly.  I don’t think I’m the only one with this problem because leaf filter is paying out 5 million dollars starting in March of this year in **** .  This case involved the same problem I am having.

LeafFilter North of ******, installed a gutter protection system on our house Aug of 2021. Cost of installation was $********. The first problem occurred on Jan 12-22. Water from roof was flowing off the roof, not into gutters in 5 different locations from our roof. No resolve, called again Jan 21-22. Maintenance service arrived to address issue. He informed us our roof is to steep for the gutter system. Without our consent he installed a 4" dam at the 5 problem areas to stop the water shooting off the roof. This worked for a couple of months until the dam's prevented the debris from getting off the gutter system. We were informed that the granules from our roof were clogging the system, and that the pollen from the trees was clogging the system. This clogging of the filter system made the water come off the roof in 10 different spots now, damaging garden beds and cobble walks. A verbal agreement with the maintenance staff was made, that he would return in the following September to clean the 5 areas before the rains, and again in November, January and March. Over this time the maintenance person attempted different solutions because the system would clog every couple of weeks through the winter months. Without consent added dams to the valleys creating another issue. He actually cut a section out of the system then it clogged. This cleaning occurred until that maintenance person moved on. When our system clogged again we were informed we would be charged to clean the filters, for a system that didn't work and it was their attempts to fix the problem that caused more problems. We have tried on numerous times to resolve the issues, 30 plus phone calls and email. On July 26-2023, **** ***** informed us we would be getting a refund, this was after their employee inspected our concerns. Pictures on file with LeafFilter North. More attempts were attempted to resolve with a newer system, but they want to change our contract. Oct 3-2023 informed NO REFUND.

      Business Response

Leaf Filter inspection was completed on 8/8/2023.  The system is found to be working and within manufacturer's specifications.  Customer issues are found to be high volume due to construction of roof causing high volume water to overshoot their gutters entirely and the splash guards set up to help slow the volume.  Leaf Filter has offered to install new miter boxes for customer satisfaction( a solution to help in certain areas to slow and handle that type of volume caused by the architecture of the roof.) At this time, customer has declined the offer.  As the customer issues are high volume created by the architecture of the roof and not the guttering system nor the Leaf Filter system, customer request for refund/removal has been deemed unwarranted.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 10/12/2023

I am rejecting this response because:

Firstly, we would like to correct the misleading statement made by LeafFilter.  “As the customer issues are high volume created by the architecture of the roof and not the guttering system nor the Leaf Filter system”.  Prior to the installation of the leaf filter guard, water from our roof never missed our gutters.  The leaffilter system is preventing the water from entering the gutter in 5 different locations.  Our roof is standard design, 10/12 pitch and 6/12 pitch.
Not sure why an inspection was conducted on August 8,2023. This was in the middle of summer and there hadn’t been rain in over 60 days, or since the last cleaning of June 2, 2023.  The system was fully cleaned and inspected by **** ****, June 2,2023, of LeafFilter.  This is when he informed me that debris was inside the gutter preventing water from draining and causing the overflow in this section. The photos submitted for this complaint were taken on September 3, 2023.  Less than one month after inspection.  Already plugged by debris because of the dams installed by LeafFilter.  Did LeafFilter take any pictures on August 8, 2023 to confirm the proper operation?  Did they flow water on the roof to confirm proper operation.  As both my wife and I were at home all summer, we did not see anyone come to our property.  I confirmed this today, Oct 12, 2023 with LeafFilter service department, that there was no site visit on August 8.  Visits are tracked through an open/closed ticket process.  August 8, 2023 was when the LeafFilter escalation team closed the ticket. I was informed that no onsite visits were performed on that day.  As of today,  the previous visits were June 2, 2023, and September 20, 2023.  There is a 2 foot section of the filter system missing, that was removed by the service person *****.  This is not what our contract states.  Closed system on all gutters.  Not sure where in the Manufacturer’s specification it states that a 2 foot piece should be missing.
On June 2, 2023 we were informed by an employee, **** ****, that he would be submitting the paperwork to start the process for a refund.  On July 14 I called **** to see how the refund was going.  He did not know but called back on July 17, 2023 to set up a time to fill out the paperwork for the refund.  **** stopped returning my calls, and I learned he is no longer with the company.  I contacted **** ****** to see where we were at with the refund process. He was unable to help me but would have **** ***** call me. Spoke to **** ***** on July 26, 2023.  He informed us we would be getting a refund but there would be a 25% charge.  Our contract and warranty states 100% refund if debris is found in gutters and clogging gutters.  He informed me he had to get the OK from his boss.  This was the last time we heard from him until October 2, 2023.
August 28, 2023 our gutters overflowed from the first rain of the season.  Contacted ****, he said he would get someone to come and clean gutters and inform **** ***** of the situation.  I had to call again September 19, 2023 to see if someone was coming to clean out our gutters.  There was no service ticket created for this service request by **** or Jake.
On August 4, 2023 we were contacted by ***** ****** by email.  Requesting to do an inspection of our system.  We replied and informed ***** that the system had been inspected by LeafFilter ****** on June 2, 2023
August 10, 2023 ***** ****** contacted us and offered a 30 day trial with a different product to correct the problem areas.  If they do not work, we would get our refund.
On August 17, 2023 we responded to move forward with this new product, but it would have to be on a 12 month trial basis.  This is so all the seasons would be covered, with inspections to the system in the winter months.
On August 28, 2023 we contacted ***** as we have not heard from LeafFilter.
On August 29, 2023 ***** contacted us to inform us that the product she offered us was not for sale in ******.  They would ship the new system up and LeafFilter agreed to the 12 month trial period.
September 3, 2023 we informed ***** that we would move forward but requested everything in writing.
September 3, 2023 ***** informed us the miters would arrive September 5th.

September 5, 2023 ***** reached out and informed she would be our contact person from now on.  Due to the local office not returning our calls.  She also attached a new contract.  We read the contract and had quite a few concerns about the new additions and limitations.  We addressed these concerns on September 19, 2023.  As these additions and limitations would change our original contract/agreement, we felt that we shouldn’t have to deviate from the original/existing contract.
September 20, 2023 ***** responded but did not address our concerns in the contract.  She did give explanations though.  She informed us that **** ***** would be contacting us to go over information about the new product.
October 1, 2023 we contacted *****, and requested our full refund because we had not been contacted by **** ***** or LeafFilter.  This is the last communication from ***** ******.
October 2, 2023 we finally received an email from **** ***** asking us to contact him.  “12 day and a complainant later”.  We responded to him requesting our refund.  He then sent an email stating he had attempted to call us multiple times.  As we have no record of his attempt to contact us, we requested the actual dates and times of his attempts.  No response.  It was at this point that we would only converse via email, as we had been lied to more than once.  He then tried to call again, but we did not answer.  Mr ***** then sent pictures of the new product that was originally requested on September 19, 2023.
October 3, 2023 we contacted ***** ****** to proceed with our full refund.  We have had no response.
In conclusion we are still willing to move forward with the new product for a 12 month trial period, with inspections every 2 months throughout the winter months, or if service is required before.  If the product allows water to escape over the system, over the gutters, or debris remains on any part of the entire system, we would like our full refund of 13,037.85  Remain with our original contract.  This was suggested from the BBB of ******** **, ******.
If the LeafFilter system is unable to accept waterflow from a 10/20 pitch of a roof, then we should not have been sold the system.
This would be the fourth attempt to correct the original product and problem.  No where in the contract does it state that LeafFilter will continually modify the original system if it doesn’t work.  The dams that have been installed have created more problems.

It has been determined that a refund is unwarranted.  Customer has high volume from roof overshooting the gutters entirely.  The system is working as intended

      Customer Answer

      Date: 10/20/2023

I am rejecting this response because:

Just to be clear.  The company has stated that the LeafFilter system is working as intended, and it is our roof that is the issue.
We have attached 5 additional photographs that were taken on October 19,2023, less than one month after the system was cleaned by the service person from LeafFilter North.
The dams installed by LeafFilter North, prevent the debris from clearing from the system.  It then clogs the system preventing water from draining into the LeafFilter system.  Thus overflowing from the gutter.
The section that has been removed by LeafFilter North allows debris to enter the gutter system and plugs up, and then overflows out of the gutter.
The volume of water from the roof is not the issue.
As a consumer we relied on the expertise and experience of this company.  When the estimate was done originally, it should have been determined then, that our roof was not suitable for their LeafFilter system.  This should not have been determined after we paid ********, and more than 2 years later.

On September 30th, at a Womans expo, I was assured I would receive just one phone call to schedule an appt. The very next day, on Sunday early morning, an incessant number of calls from Leaf Filter began . I blocked the number and the calls continue coming through from different phone numbers. This is harassment and I would never use a company who blatantly lies.

Leaf filter gutter guards don’t work!! I’ve got water infiltration on several soffits which is running through the wall and damaging Sheetrock and framing! Ive had them come out twice to remedy the situation and they couldn’t correct the problem. I’ve asked them on several occasions to come out and remove the gutter guards because of damage to my property, they said no! They actually told me to pay someone else to remove and they’d reimburse me!!!!! They have a lifetime warranty that they don’t honor!

Me and my mother hired Leaf Filter to install gutter covers (filters) at our houses. The job was done by the same crew. My mom noticed that the filter was not properly installed on some areas of her gutters so she called customer service who offered to send a technician to take a look at the filters and make any necessary repairs. When the technician arrived, he told my mom that the job was done so poorly that they would need to come back and start all over. My mom never received a call with a new job date and when we called for an update, we were told that the case had been closed meaning that the technician that came to her house to inspect the job never relayed to his team that the work needed to be redone. On top of this, a technician was supposed to come to my house to inspect the filters on it as they were installed by the same crew that worked at my moms house. The technician never showed up to my house and when I called customer service, I was told to contact their regional office. I made several attempts to call the regional office and have left several voicemails but have not received a call back. We are extremely worried that if Leaf Filter does not replace the filters on my moms house and check the ones on mine, the structure of our houses can be compromised as the gutters can be flooded or overfilled as they were not installed properly leading to large gaps.

I invited the sales representative into my home 9/29/23 and was sold the product. I was quoted and wrote a check for half and financed half. The product warranty seemed great. Initially, I made 2 appointments for estimates. I'd forgotten about the 2nd appointment and when the tech arrived I received a quote that was less than Leaffilter by $800.00. Due to the late hour, I called the salesperson Monday 10/2/23 to cancel. When asked why I told him of the better quote from a local installer. This is where it got uncomfortable. The sales **** *************************** told me, "That's ********, other companies can't do what we do and you know it". Telling me I was lied to about the quote. While I appreciate his candor I was taken aback. I told him it was important to me to do business locally and not with a contractor 2 hours away. ************** offered me his commission ($375.00 or so) saying it's all he can do and included "I'm about the numbers not the money". I said no, I can go to my local ****** or ********** and buy the screens and pay save even more money than with Leaffilter. ************** continued the pressure and said, "****** and ********** sell c*** and you know that, they cannot beat us" I finally gave in and said I'll take the discount. ************** says, "I feed my kids with this, put food on the table." I was exasperated and caved.Install day, job wasn't finished because the filters arrived. Just gutters. Even though the job isn't done, ************** deposited my check and got paid. I did get a call from the contractor and rescheduled, but I could've gone with the other installer and had the job done COMPLETELY, with a less expensive, comparable product and saved on the install. Total savings would have been $1,523 total. The pressure tactics of the salesperson was in poor taste and the fact that he deposited my check before the job was complete really *****. I'm expecting a call from "someone" to discuss. I have a feeling I won't get a call until they finish.
