I received a note from my banker that my credit report decreased by 49 points on April 21, 2023, after MERCANTILE ADJMNT BUR reported an UNPAID balance of $265.00. The debt collection is in favor of ******* an electric company in Texas. When I contacted ******* they told me they are not aware of that. My balance is $0.00 at this moment. It is a fraud. Obtain a reference number from MERCANTILE.
When Mercantile is contacted they told me the collection debt has been taken away they cannot give me a reference number. In the meantime, my credit report is messed up. ******* nor Mercantile are taking responsibility to fix my credit report.Business Response

I received an ******** ***** alert my credit. When I looked it says I have a collection with MERCANTILE ADJMNT BUR which I do not. I never used MERCANTILE ADJMNT BUR nor have I ever heard of them. My credit score dropped 46 points because of this wrongfully collections. The number listed for this company on ******** ***** page is ************ and when you call that number the rep said they are some sort of coupon savings company and tried selling me c**** This collections from MERCANTILE ADJMNT BUR is a scam and needs to be dealt with.Business Response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. I called Mercantile again on 4/25 and requested a timeline for returning the devices. I was transferred to a manager, who opted to argue with me about Mercantile practices. He stated that Mercantile contacted me via mail (at a rural address that doesn't receive mail), via email (of which I have found no record), and via voicemail (which, again, I have no record). I responded that, if I had received such notice, I would have contacted Mercantile earlier. I only received a text that, from all appearances, seemed like a phishing attempt. Yet, I practiced diligence, looking up the company to verify the legitimacy of this claim that I was just hearing of. I contacted them moments later. This man also argued that the voicemail could not inform me as to the reason for the call despite the text making this very clear. He said that the laws on text communication vs voicemail are not the same, though he was unable to cite this law. I have been unable to find such information and would love to read it, because it makes no sense on the surface. Further, if I got a call from a company wherein the voicemail just said to call them back, I wouldn't. Who would? My point remains: The poor communication, the threats I received when I did respond, and the unreliable information I received tell me that this company needs to be monitored much more closely.

I keep receiving calls from this business. I had an account with my room mate from ******** ******** when I lived in California and they keep calling saying I have an outstanding balance they’re trying to collect. The account was moved under my room mate’s name when I moved out in 2020 and they have handled any fees since then. This business needs to stop calling me for debt I do not owe.Business Response

I'm showing on my credit report action taken by Mercantile Adjmnt Bur. on behalf of ******* ****** ****** in the amount of $655 going against an account# ********. I have attempted to discuss this matter with ******** about this being a fraudulent activity placed against me and my credit report late last year and earlier this year and nothing has been done to remedy the situation on getting this removed from my credit as its doing irreparable harm to my credit. This is one of 2 instances referring to fraudulent activity regarding either my drivers license #, social security#, or some other means with the State of Texas. The other instance refers to ***** ******** ****** and their collection agency ****** ******* *************. I can tell you this, I have never lived in Texas or stepped foot in Texas. I should not have any accounts in my name associated to these companies that I'm aware of. I have lived in the State of Florida since July 1991.Business Response
