On Wednesday I was on my computer when it froze up and statements appeared on the screen with a voice recording stateing it had been compromised and locked. The recording kept repeating. There was an 888 phone number on screen to contact to resolve the problem. I called the number and a Jason L** from Quickhelp 24-7 told me I needed to turn over control of the computer so he could resolve this issue, which I did. He stated he was cleaning up many issues and hack attempts. After this he put several icons on the computer and said I needed to send check to ******* **** * * *** ***** *** *********** ******* ****** After this took place I looked up Quickhelp 24-7 on line and saw where there had been several complaints against them to the BBB. I reached out to Geek Squad and they went in and took care of my concerns with what this place did. They said it was more than likely a scam. I have not sent them any money. They keep calling but I have not answered the calls. Please advise.

On Sunday, November 26, 2023, I was working on the computer when the screen flashed with a message that the computer firewall had failed and that I should call the number on the screen. I mistakenly called the number allegedly from a company called Quickhelp 24-7and gave access to my computer to allegedly "fix" the problem. The scammers installed two firewall protections and charged $3261. The next day I took the computer to my IT technician where they determined that the installation was a scam, because, among other things, I had firewall protection on the computer monitored by my IT shop. The IT shop de-installed the apps. Since late November, I'm getting about 3-4 calls a day on my home phone and cell phone from ************ and ************ numbers wanting me to pay $349 for "fixation" of my computer (see uploaded document). I also have voice mails from the scammers demanding payment of the $349 and threatening legal action. The persons I talked with on 11/26 had distinctive South Asian accents and gave their names as *** ****** (interesting because 518 is an Upstate New York area code and *** ****** is an NFL linebacker with the ******* *****) and ****** ******** (also probably a pseudonym). The persons I talked with on 11/26/23 wanted to know the number of the check I was going to use to pay the $349 and wanted the check sent to ****** ** **** ** *** ******* ******** ** ******

    Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

This is the same response I received for complaint ********.  But the company appears to just change the telephone number from which the harassing phone calls.  On the previous complaint, the calls were coming mostly from the 518 area code.  Now the harassing calls are coming from the 254 area code. I expect to get more calls in the future, but from a different area code/telephone number.

If Quick Help 24-7 is serious about stopping the harassing calls, they would ensure that their agents do not just switch telephone numbers and continue calling. I have a record of at least 50 calls from 7, 518 numbers; 5, 254 numbers; 6, 507 numbers, and 3 each from 267 and 240 area code numbers. How can we stop the company from apparently just switching numbers and continuing to call?

    Regards,

On 10/22/23 I had a computer problem. Computer/screen locked up, message displayed that I was infected with a virus/malware. Message directed me to call a "windows support co." at ***** ******** for help. Spoke with a man named Bob G***** He sent me to a Gary W*****. He said I was hacked and that a virus/malware was on my system. Said they could fix it for $349 but that I had to give them remote access to my computer. Then directed to someone who said I needed a "*** **** ***** ********" installed. In a state of panic I said OK. Then directed to someone who I believe represented ************* because that is what the vendor slip shows. The man said I had to buy a warranty, told him I did not one, he said I had to for all inclusive $500. Told to mail a check payable to ****** ** *** and mail to ** *** ******* ******** ** ******* The company appeared to fix the problem and installed three icons on my screen for reference. Next day received a call from a Jennifer who told me to be sure to mail my check in. Her call display came from Richmondville, NY ***** *********  Tried calling back - no Jennifer, but a machine that announced "a deal for the day". We have been receiving a lot of spam calls and do not answer spam calls, most annoying. Had a reputable computer repair man in, sent machine to his shop, whatever was remotely down loaded was removed and machine restored. He thinks that this was a scam and said the icons/downloads are suspicious. Went to my bank. They said it was likely a scam. Advised to stop the check and close out my checking, Did so.. Received e-mail from a Tony W****** Customer Services Manager on 11/02/23. E mail address of **************************  Asking for payment and providing a toll free number of ************** or "revert us back on same e-mail". BBB reviews of complaints on company seemed to be handled by Tony W***** , Customer Service Manager. Appears to be the same name. Please help me out in resolving this issue. .

I’m a senior citizen. On September 23, a pop-up screen froze my computer saying I had a Trojan virus. I called the 800 number provided believing I would get ********* (**). Instead, Quick Help (QH) in NY answered saying I must allow them remote access to fix the problem. I questioned if they were a ** subcontractor. The man deflected my question by saying they had ** certification. One man claimed that I had no network firewall. I realized the next day that I already had two network firewalls. I agreed to pay $2300 by check in a panic. I questioned why I should make the check to ****** Mart in Florida, so he said to use the name *******, a company in Georgia saying that’s how their company was organized. Someone took a picture of the check using my webcam. Someone running my computer used my email account to compose and email a fake letter with the check photo to QH claiming to be me saying that I agreed to a lifetime service contract and their network firewall software for a fee of $2300. I naively mailed the check under distress and confusion. I asked for a contract to read and to sign. They sent me an invoice. I told my bank what happened. Their fraud unit had me close my bank account. QH could have installed malware on my computer, so I paid **** ***** to remove it. Over ten days, QH associates called sixty-two times demanding payment, threatening to double my cost, threatening to send me to collection, and threatening legal action. The seven phone numbers they used labeled spam risks by my phone are no longer in service. A local law enforcement officer called their bookkeeping department as part of an investigation. The QH employee rudely answered questions for about ten minutes and hung up on the officer. I won’t pay the company called Quality Help 24*7/*******/****** Mart a dime. This national scam needs to be shut down.

On October 6, 2023, I suddenly received a series of pop-up messages stating that my computer was locked because some virus had been downloaded, and the only way to rectify this (according to the pop-up) was to call a number. The message was supposedly from ******* ********, and the number stated it was from ******* Support. I called the number, and they said they could fix the issue if I gave them remote access, which I regrettably did. During the call, they said I should get their network security package, and that I also needed to pay for the support call. They said I should send them a check for $1649, and they asked for the number of the check and how my name was listed on the check. They asked me to mail the check from the post office using priority mail and to send them the tracking number. After I got off the call, I did some research and discovered that they were indeed scammers, so I did not send the check. I also came to the BBB site and read all the complaints from others who had been scammed by this company. Those who also did not send in the check were barraged with phone calls and emails demanding payment or else legal action would be taken. I too am starting to get these calls and texts, and I want them to stop now. I also want them to drop the bogus charges. Thank you for your help with this.

In mid September 2023 my computer froze and started blaring at me. There was a huge phone number claiming it was a ********* authorized computer fix it company available to me to fix the problem because my computer was being compromised. I panicked and called the number and the proceeded to explain to me that horrible hackers had been in my computer and suggested they could get on to my computer and help me. I let them do that. They showed me all sorts of things that looked bad. Then, toward the middle of the call, they said, this is going to cost you $299.00 and send it to this P.O. box in St. Petersburg, Florida. Then, my cat had an emergency and I had to leave and I really panicked. When I got back, my computer had things on it that they had installed that I had no idea what they were. I hired a reputable service to remove those things and that service informed me that indeed the company was not to be trusted and that they themselves were hackers. Since then I have had over 30 calls from them asking where their check is and that they are going to be sending me to collections and initiating legal proceedings against me. I just want these calls to stop and this nightmare to end. I don't believe I owe them this money. They claimed that they are a ********* authorized business. They are not. This is false. They have represented themselves falsely and sending them money seems like another stupid thing to do.

On or about August 26, 2023, there was a very legitimate looking pop-up on my iPad screen purporting to be from Apple. It said a Trojan horse had been detected in the system and asked that I call a 1-800 number for support. As my husband was not home to discuss this, I made the call and spoke with a man with a heavy accent who asked me to go login to my computer. I did ask if he was with Apple and was told they were contracted with Apple and Microsoft for computer support. After hearing this, I did login, at which point he gained remote access without my permission and began showing an onscreen list of what he said were foreign actors trying to get into the system. I was also asked to login to my bank account so he could check for unauthorized transactions. Unfortunately, I did also did this. He then said he could clean the computer for $299 and also tried to sell security for amounts from $699 and up. I began to feel that I had been scammed and that he might be putting something dangerous on the computer. After I ended the call, there was an emailed invoice from Quick Help in New York asking for $299 for “6 months security and support” to be sent to Devine Mart in St. Petersburg, Fl. After explaining to my husband what had happened, we called a local computer service company. They thoroughly checked everything and removed 3 files. The charge for this service, done remotely, was $100+. Since the initial contact and email, we have been constantly receiving calls asking for payment of $299, the latest ones threatening to escalate to their collection department. None of the calls were answered, so this company has now begun sending emails. I’m certain this is a scam or at least a company preying on vulnerable people, particularly the elderly.

8/15/23 pop up stated my computer was infected. Called phone # on screen and was connected to ******** Store in St Petersburg, FL. Person told me he could clean it up for $349. I said OK. He then switched me to Quick Help. He explained about my IP address. I asked that why can I not just change Internet providers and get a new IP address ? OH NO, he said. Stated that your IP address never changes and follows you no matter where you go. Based upon his information, I agreed to a new firewall install. I later discovered that is a FALSE statement, and IP addresses CAN be changed. I also later discovered an email in my "sent" file...stating the following: I, ******* ******, authorized the payment of $793 from my checking account, towards ******** **********, for the services. My issues have been resolved and I am satisfied with the service. I NEVER WROTE THIS !! . While they had control of my computer, they wrote this to THEMSELVES! On 8/20/23, I followed up with this reply to QuickHelp24*7. "I am withdrawing this authorization and canceling this transaction". Their reply was "we have already installed the security and it cannot be withdrawn." This was from ***** ******** at ************. I have not returned her calls or email asking for payment. This transaction was based on deception ,and or lie, to make a sale, and as such is not a legal transaction No money was ever sent. I just want the transaction canceled.

I originally filed this complaint against Quickhelp24-7 several weeks ago (complaint #********). They inserted a popup on my computer that I was unable to remove until I called their number. They removed the problem that they caused and demanded $299 in payment. From the initial response from Quickhelp24-7 to BBB's notification I thought the problem was resolved: they would remove any connection with my computer, they would not charge me anything, and they would cease trying to contact me. They've now resumed hassling me by email and phone, demanding $299 and threatening using a collection agency. I've attached a copy of their latest email.

On Aug. 19, 2023, my laptop was locked, and the ********* ******* panel audibly demanded to call the phone number for support. It was a scam by this group. Once on the phone, a heavily accented person was telling me that my laptop firewall was compromised. Before you know it, they were already remotely into my laptop. They pushed immediate cleanup for $399.00, or the hackers freely invaded your computer. Then, they started selling firewall protection at prices ranging from $400 to over $1,000. They demanded a check number for the payment and instructed me to take a photo of the check and upload it online. Then, they requested my mother's maiden name. I refused all these demands and told them it was criminal to demand my mother's maiden name with obvious intent for an ID theft. I will not send a check payment. I want this complaint sent to this outfit and cancel any connections. I demand them to delete all personal information, name, address, and phone number. I don't want anything to do with this scammer group.
