This private utility company is the only option for Aztec locals & they are price gouging. There is no competition, yet they are upping the prices monthly without informing customers. This evil company will stop at nothing to line their pockets. In this economy they are driving the locals out to make room for Durango transplants. They refuse to make things fair & right and ignore the locals outcry for change.Business Response

The City of Aztec would like to address your complaints.
We have included a spreadsheet showing the last 3 years of your utility bills by month so that you can see that the bills do rise and fall with the seasons. However, your bills have been pretty steady from one year to the next. There are a few exceptions of course. Possibly higher temperatures, etc. As far as the $346.45 you are referring to, the bill for the same period in 2023 was $339.09. That is a difference of $7.36. At the bottom of the sheet, it shows the total payments during the last 36 months. If you take the total of $8,301.62 and divide it by the 36 month period, you average $230.60 per month.
The first rate increase occurred in 2023 and second one in 2024 (approx. $15.44 per mo.) since 2012. The City of Aztec is not a private utility company, we are a municipality that is trying to do the best job for the community and keep it running smoothly. However, utilities cost money to provide and maintain and the rate increases have been adopted through the City Commission by Codes and Ordinances as required. There have been notices throughout the process and the public has had opportunities to address them and I believe residents have been involved during that process. I hope this helps you see that you have not been overcharged or randomly billed. If you would like to contact the City of Aztec Utility Department, we would be more than happy to sit down and go over the bill line item by line item.

Hi REMOVED
My apologies for any confusion with charges on your current bill; maybe we can get it all figured out.The miscellaneous charges on the current bill are due to a couple of things: The disconnect notice which carries a $10 fee was mailed and emailed on 2/7/24. The reconnect charge of $30 is for the non-pay disconnect that took place on 2/14/24 at 8:37 in the morning, and then re-connected shortly after payment was received. Anytime utilities are turned off for non-payment, there is an increased deposit charge of 15%. Your deposit is now at max, there will be no additional increases. I have also attached the disconnect notice that was sent out stating that services will be disconnected if payment is not received before 2/14/24.
If you have additional questions and concerns, please feel free to reach out to me directly; you may respond to the duplicate email I will send to your Gmail account or feel free to give me a call REMOVED
Kindest Regards,
REMOVED
