I have received 33 unpaid invoices from EZPASS. When I first signed up I did not realize how the system was taking automatic money out of my account. I thought my tolls were being paid and then I started getting invoices in the mail. I had to commute from rochester NH to Haverhill MASS for work and it racked up about $200 something in tolls I didnt pay according to EZPASS automated system. I will gladly pay the toll violations. Unfortunately Im not able to pay the total of $4,200 after fees because I do not make nearly enough money to save up that much and Will need to renew my license in May 2023. Im very worried about losing my license privileges which will result in me losing my job since I travel for work and will never be able to pay these fees back without being able to drive to work. Please help me settle something or waive the fees so that I can stop having anxiety about this. I have uploaded a copy of one of the invoices Ive received in the mail, this invoice # should pull up all invoice transactions. Thank you.Business Response

In the spring of 2022 my Ezpass account was locked. Upon calling they had told me my account had $8,000 balance to pay off. My account had gone negative only a few times for only a few dollars of which I uploaded money instantly. However now they inform me that you have to pay in another spot the background processing fee. (Which I do not think is common knowledge.) When I called customer service they said the only way I can dispute this is to email ezpass there is no number to call. I emailed a few times in which I only received auto replies to expect a long wait for a response. I called customer service again asking why I haven't heard back and they gave me a NH number to call. When I called I was informed they had settled my dispute for $1,000 with 30 days to respond via mail. However I guess i did not see this letter and was expecting an email response or a call per my request and my conversation in which they said they respond. Now they are saying I have to pay $1,500 dollars plus a fee to have my car registration unfrozen cause now they froze them. All because a few dollars of processing fees I did not know was suppose to be paid separately. I can not afford to pay this and they refuse to lower the amount or unfreeze my car registration. They states till I pay the whole balance my cars registrations are frozen I even offered to set up payment plan in which they told me it wouldn't matter because they will not help me till my accounts paid off. I feel like they are taking advantage of their power over peoples registrations! i have enclosed my last two emails I had sent them.Business Response

The only reason I met with someone was in hopes they help me lower my outstanding balance. However they did not and I was told every day I waited to pay it it would just go up more. As it was it had already went up $300 from when I last spoke to someone on the phone a few days prior. I’m not happy or agreeable in this plan. In fact your own employee laughed at my account and said “wow people suck they are really screwing you over” your own employees think you are a joke in how you up charge people. I’m an average person who still owes a significant amount of money I can’t afford payments on. I couldn’t get someone settle again to another price I could afford. Not mention I’m not sure where you even get these prices from since you never present a receipt where you get this numbers from? I’d like for someone be human acknowledge the fact this is an outrageous price for someone make a human mistake not knowing when you add money your ezpass account you have to back pay a processing fee in a separate spot and see how expensive the cost of living is right now. To see that a few dollars have somehow grew to unheard of amount. Your online service is flawed not to take out the processing fee itself. I seriously wonder if you do this on purpose to screw people over and you have all the power to hold their car registration. Your dealing with peoples lives that make average income trying their best.

RE: Better
Business Bureau (BBB) Complaint #********
Dear
**** ********:
I am responding to your BBB complaint #******** which
we received on Friday February 10, 2023.
When an operator fails to pay the toll at the time of
use or within 7 days, NH E-ZPass begins the invoice process to collect each
unpaid toll. The first notice is mailed, requesting payment of the toll
plus $1.00 fee, payable in 30 days. If the first notice goes unpaid, a
second notice is mailed, requesting payment of the toll and $1.50 fee. If
the second notice goes unpaid, each matter escalates to a violation. Then
a third notice, a Violation Notice, is mailed requesting payment of the tolls
plus the $25.00 fee for each violation. These fees are outlined in NH TRA
700 which must be approved by the legislature.
We mailed 207 invoices to the name and address on the
vehicle registration for the NH license plate that violated through the NH
tolls. Name and address are provided by
NH DMV, these invoices serve as your notification of unpaid toll transactions.
I am extending a settlement offer to resolve these
outstanding violations and administrative fees now totaling $8,500.00 for a
lump sum payment of $1,350.00 in administrative fees (this takes into account
the payment made on February 3, 2023).
Payment of $1,350.00 ($1,350.00 in administrative fees)
must be received. Failure to respond
with the payment means that you have rejected our offer to resolve this
matter. If you reject this offer the
following will occur:
The settlement offer is void.
In accordance with state law (RSA 263:56-f) your motor vehicle registration will be suspended. Operating a vehicle under suspension is a misdemeanor, which is an arrestable offense.
Should you wish to further dispute the administrative
fees, please call us at 603-485-4641 and your case worker can assist you with
that process.
The payment should be made payable to NHDOT E-ZPass.
Please note no personal checks will be accepted, we do accept money

I do not accept the business's response as a resolution to my complaint because: I have pages of paid tolls and fee's from my MA ezpass website. Showing every pass through a NH toll and it being paid with fee's if it was late. I can email or tried to print them out but too big to attach on here. Please help me! I can't afford 1355.00. I don't even have my rent paid yet. I need to know how to resolve this. I've paid every toll I've gone through and shouldn't have to pay again. Plus the heart ache of not being able to register my only transportation and way to get to work just to be able to live paycheck to paycheck.

I do not accept the business's response as a resolution to my complaint because: Here are some of the documents I have, showing Hocksett Tolls on my Ezpass and also being paid off on my ezpass website. So, if Iam at zero balance on the website for ezpass and it excepted the payments and late fee charges for Hocksett Tolls on the ezpass website, I do not understand why I have to pay all over again! This is not right, I have paid all tolls and late fees. I should not have to pay again! I think I may have to look into a lawyer if we can not resolve this, so I can register my car. I obey all laws, no background of breaking the laws. My car is insured, inspected and I work hard to pay my car payment and all those tolls. But, know you all will not let me register my only transportation so I can continue to work hard. I have pages more of my ezpass history from 2015. All paid in full along with any late fees. I truley hope we can work this out!

I do not accept the business response as a resolution to my complaint because: I have all these paid tolls from my Ez-pass MA Transponder ******* I've had since 2018. I have always paid the amount due and the fees for late payments. I know I don't own this to the State of NH. Why is it now coming up? Making it so I can't re-register my car, if these have been from 2019 - 2021. I don't understand this! Please just clear my name, so I can register my car, that I pay decent money to have. My car that I need to get to work. This is absolute craziness! I got a transponder to make it easier to pay the tolls. Which it did make it easier to just go on my MA online website and pay. Until I found out I unknowingly was being charged twice. I don't understand how the DOT can think this is okay! This is such a heartache and huge inconvenience for a responsible paying citizen to have to go through all this to clear their name, so they can legally drive their car in their home state. I'm at such a loss and in awe of how this can happen and the fight you have to go through.

I am a New Hampshire driver and have recently had my registration put on hold by NH EZpass. I was unaware I was even overdue on charges as the notices had been being sent to an address no longer receives usps service. I travel often due to military service and had filed with usps to forward mail. Frequent moves and travel can create mail challenges even when steps are taken. Surely these notices were being returned to EZpass. Why wouldn't this be flagged instead of continuing to add fees?
I recently paid all tolls off $335. However I am also being charged an additional $1250 in fees. I cannot register my car due to this balance.
$1250 is a ludicrous amount of money for fees alone. I cannot afford this. I need to drive as I have essential responsibilities, duties and parenting to do like many others.Business Response

I received letter today in my PO box addressed to myself, my husband , and 2 of my adult children at an address we haven't lived at in quite some time. There was no acct # on this notice but says it is a settlement offer of (balance 2854.25) 1346.75 which must be paid by 2/7/23. I tried calling ez pass # on notice and was told I needed to speak with DOT, and gave me a number. I call that number and had to leave a message.
1. This letter does not say which charges belong to which person listed on the letter
2. My son is an adult. He is also a US Marine who has only been in NH on limited occasions for visits over the last 4 years, as he has been stationed elsewhere.
3. My daughter lived in a separate apartment on the house when we owned it, we sold it 2 years ago, and she has since moved out of the attached apartment. None of us have lived together for many years.
4. It appears that out of the 2896.00 balance, the total owed for tolls themselves is 41.75, and 2854.25 isfees and penalties...
I do not have 1300 dollars right now, as I just spent 3k in propane for 1 and a half months of propane. I also feel that 2854.25 is beyond excessive for penalties over not paying 41.25. Threatening to suspend our registration privileges over 41.75 in tolls, resulting in the inability for people to get to work while inflation is at a high and people are struggling. If I lose my job or get arrested for driving to work in a car for which the registration has been suspended (for 41.75) seems way beyond reasonable. Additionally, I do not understand how we are all lumped together under one account, or why you would take the registration of a US Marine, over his families debts.
I have left a message at the DOT # ************, as EZ pass customer service says that is the only way I can discuss this further. I hope I hear back because I do not have the money to pay 1346.25 by 2/7 and I need to feed my family and buy propane, so I need my car to get to work.Business Response

I have received several NH EZPass violation notices with incurred charges. I have a NH EZPass and it has a valid credit card attached. I am still getting charged for tolls, so there are no payment issues. I have tried calling NHEZPass during business hours several times and can't get through to question these additional charges. If I have an EZPass and it's up to date, why am I getting violations? I can't get to anyone. I go through the whole system, pushing 9 to speak with a representative and it always kicks me back to the main menu. I have tried to connect by the website, but the "connect with us" function doesn't work. I just want to understand/dispute the violations and ensure this issue doesn't snowball further, but I can't connect with a person to resolve it. I have no choice but to file a complaint.Business Response

Hello,
I hope you're having a wonderful 2023 so far.
My name is **** ******** and my account number is *************
I'm writing because I logged on to my nh ez pass account and was dumbfounded at the amount owed due to administrative fees. I had moved but my ez pass account still lists my mother's residence (something I will be changing ASAP) and she had not alerted me to getting anything from ez pass.
I moved again and set up mail forwarding. When I got a mailer from ez pass, I added some money to my account figuring my balance was low. I got another so I logged in only to find that there is 4,326 outstanding due primarily to administrative fees. I felt physically sick seeing how much was racked up.
I always figured if my account had a problem, the light wouldn't turn green at EZ pass, but that is apparently not the case. I would like to pay all of my outstanding tolls and violations but I absolutely cannot afford to pay all of the administrative fees. Can you please reduce them by as much as possible so that I'm able to resolve this?
I included an invoice just in case it helps you locate my account.
Your help would be greatly appreciated because while I want to settle this matter, the idea that I may have to choose between paying for rent, my car, and food or paying ez pass is a horrifying.Business Response

I am trying to renew my registration and learned that I cannot do so due to outstanding ez-pass transaction. My ex was the one that handles the finances and told me that everything was taken care of. I cannot pay the large balance with the all the fees. I need to get my car registered in order to keep my job and I'm not sure how to resolve this.Business Response

I've spent countless time on the phone with ez pass just trying to figure out what I owe so they can remove the flag on my registration. Can't currently work to make money cause my car is unregistered. They gave me a number to the dot ez pass but every time I call it goes straight to voice mail. I'm trying to ask them for help cause I can't afford what they need. Some kinda plan but I can't get anyone to pick up the phone. My license plate is ******. You might have my old address in Franklin on file. Very annoying need to do this quick but it's a nightmare. Tho part is on me definitely as I never changed my address when I moved a couple years ago.Business Response
