In December 2022, I signed a contract with ************** for a full solar system (panels, batteries, electrical interface, grid connection) financed through Sunlight Financial / ****************. Envisha installed panels but never provided batteries, never connected the system to my home, and never completed the grid connection. The system is inoperable, and Envisha went out of business shortly after.Despite the project being incomplete, Sunlight Financial / **************** has continued to report this loan as valid to Experian and **********. I disputed the tradeline with the credit bureaus. ******** responded that it was verified as accurate, but no supporting documentation was provided. I am rejecting this response because:
I am not satisfied with Sunlight Financials response.
Sunlights reply does not address the substance of my complaint:
I entered into financing through Sunlight / Cross River Bank for a full solar energy system, including batteries, house interface, and grid connection.
The installer, Envisha, never completed the work. The panels are inoperable, no batteries were installed, and the system was never connected to my home or to the grid.
Despite this, Sunlight has continued to attempt to collect payment on a loan for a system that was never delivered as promised.
Sunlights response that they cannot discuss the matter because I previously had legal representation is evasive. The BBB complaint process is meant to give consumers a voice, and Sunlight should directly address the fact that they financed an incomplete, nonfunctional installation and continue to report and attempt to collect on the debt.
I request that Sunlight take responsibility for its role as the financing partner in this transaction and resolve this matter by:
Removing the debt from my credit report,
Cancelling the loan, and
Ceasing all collection activity related to this incomplete installation.
Until those steps are taken, this complaint remains unresolved.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:
I remain not satisfied with Sunlight Financials response.
Sunlight is repeating that the loan was originated by **************** and that my installation agreement was with Envisha. This does not address the substance of my complaint:
The financed system was never completed or made operational (no batteries, no house connection, no grid connection).
Despite this, Sunlight continues to attempt collection and report the debt as if the system had been delivered.
Directing me to contact my lawyer is not a resolution through BBB and does not change the fact that Sunlight is reporting a false debt.
I request that Sunlight acknowledge their role as the financing partner, stop reporting this invalid debt, and cancel the loan since the contracted system was never delivered. Until then, the matter remains unresolved.Business Response

In August of 2021, I signed a contract for the installation of a solar (PV) system with ********, which was financed by Corning. The loan was tranferred to Sunlight Financial. The loan has been fully paid off. ******** completed about 90% of the work, then went out of business. Trying to work with Sunlight regarding finishing this project, and/or dispersal of my funds, has been problematic at best. Until I sent a formal letter of complaint to Sunlight, I got no response at all. After, I was assigned to ****** ******, Senior Compliance Officer with Sunlight. Mr ****** has been only slightly more communicative. Sunlight has sent several contractors to my residence, but no further progress has been made. Due to the lack of communication, I am not able to determine if the fault lies with Sunlight, the contractors, or both. Sunlight has assigned me a new contractor, yet again, and tells me that in order to proceed, I need to sign a waiver absolving Sulight and the contractor of any liability for anything to do with the project, for all time. In addition, the waiver states that Sunlight is completing this at their expense. As the project was not completed, there should be funds remaining from my loan being paid off. There is no mention of any kind of guarantee or promise to complete. Sunlight refuses to disuss the project with me, nor will they discuss the funds. I have copies of all documentation and emails, if needed.Business Response

Complaint Against:Sunlight Financial LLC *********************** (Tech CU) ************* (now out of business)I am filing this complaint on behalf of my mother, ******* *****. She financed a residential solar system through a loan arranged by Sunlight Financial and issued by ***********************. The system was installed by *************, which has since ceased operations. We are now dealing with a non-operational solar system, confirmed by PG&E, which reported that zero energy credits were received between May and July 2025. This clearly indicates that the system is not producing power.Despite this, my mother continues to be charged $94.74 monthly through automatic payments by Tech CU, facilitated by Sunlight Financial. We have attempted to resolve this issue by contacting:Sunlight Financial, who said they are not responsible for equipment servicing Technology ************, who continues to bill for a non-functioning system SolarEdge, the equipment manufacturer, who has yet to offer any assistance PG&E, who confirmed the system has produced ******** kWh None of these entities have provided a working solution. We feel misled and taken advantage of, paying for a system that is broken, unmonitored, and without installer support. We are requesting the following:1. Immediate termination or cancellation of the loan agreement with ************************2. Full investigation and accountability from Sunlight Financial for partnering with a now-defunct installer.3. Reimbursement or forgiveness of payments made during the systems non-functioning period.4. If no resolution is offered, support from the BBB to escalate the case and assist in legal recourse. This situation has caused financial and emotional distress, especially as my mother is a senior citizen relying on a fixed income. Sunlight Financial financed our solar system through Powerhome Solar on 2/23/2022. The system was never completely installed when Powerhome Solar, then ************ went bankrupt. I attempted to get Sunlight Financial to finish the installation as per contract's FTC Holder-in-Due Course clause on page 14, Sunlight Financial is liable for all claims and defenses against ***********'s failure to deliver a functional solar system, attempts to get Sunlight Financial to correct the system drug on for nearly a year before being told to go find our own contractor to finish it in violation of fair lending practices under the Michigan Consumer Protection Act and federal law. Despite Sunlight itself sending an email stating that the system was non-functional. We have demanded the the immediate suspension of all loan payments at $560.57 per month, full cancellation of the %****** loan and refund of all payments made $18,874.74 of which $18,159.31 is interest alone, and a written confirmation of these actions by July 18th. Sunlight Financial has ignored our requests completely.Business Response

Please see our attached response.Customer Answer
Date: 07/21/2025
I am rejecting this response because:
1. No Roof Work Needed: Contrary to your statement, no roof work was required for Permission to Operate (PTO). Power ************************ drilled holes into our steel roof during installation, causing water damage to the ceiling drywall. We (the borrowers) repaired this damage ourselves at our own expense and effort. Your subcontractor ***** recommendation for roof work was unnecessary and unrelated to PTO; it was a misdiagnosis. Sunlights failure to facilitate direct communication with **** or resolve this properly contributed to the delay and our distress.
2. Inverter Installation Issues: The inverter was temporarily unscrewed from the building framing to install code-required treated plywood sheathing and was replaced immediately. Prior to this, the inverter was improperly installed by Power Home Solar with exposed insulation, violating safety standards. This was not a removal as you imply but a necessary correction for code compliance. Sunlights awareness of the systems non-functionality and failure to ensure proper installation or PTO make you liable under the *** clause.
3. Sunlights Inaction and Deceptive Practices: Your response admits Pink Energys bankruptcy but ignores Sunlights role in the loan and ongoing obligation to address the inoperable system. Despite sending a contractor for inspection, you denied us direct access, provided no meaningful assistance, and directed us to deal with it yourself during a phone call. Offering GreenLancer or a deferral is inadequate and shifts responsibility from Sunlight, violating fair lending practices. We decline any conditional deferral or further contractor involvement, as the *** clause holds Sunlight accountable for Pink Energys breach without requiring us to incur additional costs.
Please provide the full loan application documents immediately (third request) under TILA (15 U.S.C. 1635) to investigate potential fraud.Business Response

To clarify and refute key points in your supplemental response:
1. Sunlights Role and Liability: While Sunlight positions itself as a finance platform, you are the servicer collecting payments and reporting to credit bureaus, making you liable under the *** Holder-in-Due-Course clause (Page 14) for ***********s breach. Your denial ignores this clause and the multi-state AG letter which urged lenders like Sunlight to suspend payments and interest for *********** customers with non-functional systems. *********************** continued collection of payments despite knowing the system was never functional is deceptive.
2. Offered Assistance and PTO: Your voluntary offer to engage an alternative installer was inadequate and came after months of delay. We declined because it shifted responsibility to us without addressing the core breach by ***********. No roof work was needed; *********** drilled holes into the steel roof, causing water damage to the ceiling drywall, which we repaired ourselves. The inverter was temporarily unscrewed to install code-required treated plywood sheathing and replaced immediately. Your contractors recommendation was a misdiagnosis, and your failure to facilitate direct communication contributed to the delay. This does not absolve Sunlights liability under the *** clause.
3. Closing the Matter: Your threat to close this matter if we decline assistance has no legal effect and may violate MCL ******* by attempting to limit our rights to seek redress. We reject this coercive tactic and renew our demands.Initial Complaint

I purchased solar panels through sunlight financial January 2024. Unknowingly to me, sunlight placed a lien on my title of my home instead of placing a fixture lien. The lien states that cross river bank is the lien holder, however when reaching out to the bank sunlight directly manages my account. I have been contacting sunlight for 3 weeks attempting to get them to resolve this so I can sell my home. I would've closed on June 12th if they hadn't of made this error. I need the lien resolved immediately. Every time I call sunlight I'm on hold for hours and somehow there's never a supervisor to speak with. I'll be on hold for hours, sometimes they come back on the line and tell me nobody is available. This has happened multiple times. I've even had them on multiple 3 and 4 way calls with cross river bank, the buyers agent, and my realtor. They lie about escalating your case too. I've been told 3 times they were escalating my case and when I call back they have no record. It's to the point I'm going to get an attorney. They think it's an empty threat. ITS NOT.Business Response

Sunlight Financial is the lender for our solar panels and equipment. The loan was for $60,000 at 20 years at 0.5% interest. However, it should be known that we were not informed the "dealer fee" of 29%! That comes in right at $17,400. They did not show us the breakdown of where the money would go. This is predatory and seems that they were banking on the tax credit to make the amount they quoted. The company we got these from, Encore Solar, is no longer in business and multiple complaints were found that they were receiving kickbacks from this financial institute. I am seeking for this loan to be cancelled. I am not seeking restitution for what has already been paid, but I am seeking the remainder to be cancelled. If this does not occur, I will be consulting an attorney for possible predatory loans, as the lending, even if the tax break was paid to them, makes the entire thing beyond MSRP. Also, the panels stopped working from April 2025 to present. Sunlight Financial has done nothing to assist in getting them repaired, and we have not received any assistance for months.Business Response

I acquired a construction load through a contractor named Multitaskr using Sunlight Financial. They were meant to do remodeling around the house and a full kitchen remodel, this load was in the amount of ****** dollars roughly. The contractor (Multitaskr) never built anything and promised to pay back the loan, which they also never did, I have told this to Sunlight numerous times but they dont seem to care from anything other than getting their money back.I never benefited from this loan, the money went straight to Multitaskr, but now Im stuck having to pay it if I dont want my credit score to plummet.A lot of homeowners are facing the same problem, because of using Multitaskr but Sunlight refuses to help.I am seeking for them to terminate this loan and go after Multitaskr for it, I cannot keep paying for something that was never built and I never benefited from, specially in the amount of ****** plus dollars.Business Response

On 02/06/2025 I requested 30 day payoff letter. Sunlight Financial was paid the total amount provided on the payoff letter on 03/05/2025. Documents attached showing payoff letter and refund due.
