On July *******, I submitted a request to cancel our monthly membership with Varsity Tutors via their customer service email. I received a response asking for emails tied to the account. I sent this and was later asked again for the same information. I continued to follow up and was then changed for another month. I called customer service who said they had no documentation of my request and I was denied a refund. The email used to send this to me was the same email address I initially used to request my refund, confirming accuracy. I sent a follow up message to them showing the string of requests, which they asked to see, and I have still been denied.

I enrolled with Varsity Tutors (***********) in January 2024. On February 16, 2024, I emailed to cancel, explaining that my first ***** no-showed two sessions and my second ***** couldnt help because she lacked the required Excel add-in; my course ended a week later, so I no longer needed *****ing. Instead of cancelling, I was persuaded to pause. I was not told the pause would auto-expire or that billing would resume without my explicit consent. There was no charge in March 2024 (consistent with a pause), but without any clear notice that the pause ended, Varsity resumed charging in April 2024 and billed me monthly through ****** 2025totaling $6,642for services I did not intend to use and largely did not use. When I contacted support on September 8, 2025, I was told they likely wouldnt refund even the ****** charge. This is unfair: I made a clear cancellation request, was steered into a pause, and then charged long-term without conspicuous notice or affirmative consent to restart. I request (1) a full refund of all charges after February 16, 2024 through ****** 2025 (currently totaling $6,500+), (2) immediate cancellation with written confirmation that no further billing will occur, and (3) a written record of when my account was un-paused and copies/timestamps of any notices Varsity claims it sent. I can provide my February 16 cancel email, monthly statements showing no charge in March and continuous charges April 2024****** 2025, and the September 8 support transcript.

I am filing a complaint against Varsity Tutors regarding an unauthorized charge and refusal to issue a refund. On August 7, 2025, I purchased an 8-hour all-inclusive tutoring package for $639.00. During the enrollment process, I clearly communicated to the representative that I only intended to use the service for one month. I was assured that this would not be an issue and that the program would not automatically renew. However, on September 7, 2025, I was billed for a second cycle, even though my membership status clearly stated:Aug 06, 2025 - Sep 06, 2025 Not Auto Renewing.I have not used any tutoring services since September 6, 2025. Upon noticing the unauthorized charge, I immediately contacted Varsity Tutors to request a refund. My request was denied. I was told that I should have canceled before the billing date, which directly contradicts what I was originally told by the representative at the time of purchase. Had I known this, I would have taken appropriate action to avoid further charges. This feels like a case of misrepresentation and poor business practice. I was charged for services I did not use and did not agree to continue. I relied on the verbal assurance provided during the sales call and the membership term that explicitly stated the program would not auto-renew.I am requesting a full refund of $639.00 for the charge made on September 7, 2025 for services that were neither used nor authorized.

My tutor has cancelled on several times without notice, and then when I have to cancel I get charged. They charged me again after I asked them to cancel my membership then told me I couldnt get my money back and all they could do was give me a credit extension for 6 months now they are saying they cant even do that.

I enrolled my daughter in varsity Tutors for a 30-day 12 hour tutoring program. I enrolled over the phone. They never told me that the program was an auto-renewal program, and that I was to call them and cancel if I did not need the tutoring any longer. I was adamant about not being to pay for more than one month, so it should have been clear that if I needed to cancel, they should have said something. I just found out that they continued to charge my credit card after the 30-day tutoring agreement without my consent. My daughter did not use their services after the 30 day period that we paid for. Varsity Tutors never sent any correspondence to my email that they were posting a charge, nor did they send any information about signing up for tutoring sessions that I apparently was still paying for. When I called the customer service line, the person said she could not refund anything and that it was clear it was an auto- renewal. This is false. It was not clear. They have not provided anything to me that shows I knew it was an auto renewal membership-nor did they call it that when I set it up over the phone. By their omission of any future correspondence, they have knowingly continued to charge without assuming they were offering anything. No notice of credit card charges, no encouragement to register with a tutor? This is fraud. I asked for my money back and they said no. I asked to talk to someone else and they said they could not transfer me to anyone else. I asked for the issue to be escalated and they said they would ask someone to call me. So far, I have not heard back from anyone, so I have disputed this with my credit card company.

Date of first transaction: Aug. 2, 2025 Date of second transaction: Sept. 2, 2025 Account name: ****** ****** Account number: I don't see one Account address: ******************************************* Names on Account: ****** ****** and ****** ****** Initial transaction and call: I call Varsity tutors seeking 8 one-on-one tutoring sessions for Math SAT for my son. The transaction was done over the phone with me providing my credit card. The company representative never explained to me that this is a recurring payment or that I would be paying a $639 monthly fee. I asked for and was under the impression was that I was purchasing a one-time package of eight 1-hour tutoring sessions. We did not complete the eight sessions within the first month, but the sales ***** never told me that if I didn't get all the sessions completed within the first month, I would be charged another $639. We only completed two sessions that first month because of vacations. I happened to notice the charge on my credit card this morning (Sept. 3, 2025) of an additional $639. I called the company immediately and requested a refund. The person refused to refund the $639, even though it was still pending on my credit card account. The person also refused to let me speak to a manager, saying they don't have a manager. I received no receipt for the $639 billed on Sept. 2. I only just noticed the monthly billing notification on the original receipt (attached), which I didn't notice earlier because I didn't expect it and it wasn't discussed with me. It didn't register then that they would bill me again (it was recurring).

Transaction Date: 8/29 Cost: $234.87 Services to be provided: Math tutoring for 5th grader Experience:I signed up for tutoring for my son, but from the very beginning, the experience was disappointing. My first red flag was being overcharged, which I should have taken as a warning sign. After signing up, I received several emails and was told that an assessment would be provided before the first session. However, I never received the assessment, and when I followed up, I was sent a link that I couldnt access. When I called for support, I was told to contact IT, only to learn that my account had been set up incorrectly and needed escalation. Despite this, no one from IT ever reached out to resolve the issue. Meanwhile, I received a text from the tutor asking whether we wanted to move forward with the first session on Labor Day, but I had no way to respond. When I called again to request a refundsince I had never even had a sessionI was told they would not return my money. Based on my experience, this company feels dishonest and untrustworthy.

I inquired varsity tutoring for assistance on SAT prep and they only had a monthly charge at 4 hours as the smallest. I only needed a few hours and the *** told me I could sign up for the monthly charge and then cancel immediately after and so thats what I did. I assumed he canceled immediately after, but he didnt and so they charged me again the next month for another four hours. I went ahead and paid the additional cost for the additional four hours, but recently they called and told me I dont have any hours. They canceled those hours when I canceled my contract, but yet I paid for them. I am hoping to still use the four additional hours since I paid for them. I feel they are unfairly marketing families in their practices.

I called Varsity Tutors in November 2024 and signed up for a total of eight 1-hour sessions in ********* PowerPoint, the total payment was $499. I completed the entire transaction on the phone with their agent. At no time during the conversation was I told there would be an ongoing monthly charge of $499 until I unsubscribed because of course I wouldve opted out of that. Looking back at the confirmation they sent, it does not state anything about unsubscribing. I thought I was being charged one time for $499 for 8 sessions. This is not a college. Why would anyone subscribe indefinitely and not utilize the course. I cant imagine how many people have fallen victim to this. My eight sessions ended in January 2025, I never logged in again and they continued charging my credit card March through August when I caught it. I called and emailed two days ago and got a response today, August 28th, 2025 that they will not refund me the $2,900 deviously charged. Never once have I been notified of any upcoming charges. My account has basically been dormant. This is passive corporate scamming. This is a company I did lessons with before in 2017 so I trusted them vs other companies online. The only resolution I need is my $2,900 refunded. I do not want an apology or a typical corporate response. I need the funds refunded immediately as a check payment t, not back to that Discover card. Please help!
