I had a balloon mortgage on my hotel that was acquired by ****. I reached out to them to explore options to refinance or modify the loan. Initially, they told me everything looked good and even ordered an appraisal only to later inform me they wouldnt refinance due to my other property holdings. Then I was told by someone at **** that they dont do hotel loans at ****** that point, 30 days had already passed and with only 90 days after loan maturity before foreclosure proceedings can begin, time was critical. Despite this, I continued making monthly payments and even increased the amount voluntarily.Heres what happened next:They raised the interest rate from 5.5% to 7.8% the day the loan matured.I asked for an extension they said no.I requested a forbearance again, no.They gave the impression they were working with me, then I received a letter from their attorney demanding full ********** felt like they were never genuinely interested in working with me and instead were positioning themselves to foreclose and take the property at a deep discount. In my experience, **** was not transparent, not cooperative, and showed little regard for good-faith efforts. I would not recommend doing business with them.

Terrible service. They sent my savings account funds to ********************** Escheats without notifying me. They claim a notice letter was sent but I never received it!! And NO follow up letter or notice. Next thing I know, my quarterly statement comes (to the address they claim to have sent the letter) showing the funds have been sent to the State of Michigan Escheats. Now I have to jump through hoops to get my money back. Dont believe all the hype about how great LMCU is. Terrible terrible customer service

Avoid Lake Michigan Credit Union Avoid Lake Michigan Credit Union at All Costs – Terrible Experience with Construction to Permanent Loan I would never recommend working with Lake Michigan Credit Union. Things started off smoothly when I began the construction loan process, but once the loan was approved, everything went downhill. Jim, the loan originator, became impossible to get clear answers from. Every time I asked for details about my mortgage payments, he would just send over generic spreadsheets instead of giving me concrete numbers. I was supposed to close and convert to a conventional 30-year mortgage. At closing, they failed to collect the correct amount of prepaid interest—they only collected enough for about 3–4 weeks. Then, to my surprise, I get an email weeks after closing asking for $4,000 in interest that should’ve been accounted for from the start. I was told I had to make that payment plus my regular mortgage payment within 30 days—even though I was supposed to skip the first month of payments. I closed on March 7th, and my first mortgage payment isn’t due until May 1st. So why am I being hit with thousands in unexpected charges weeks after moving in? When I reached out for help, Erin (the loan closer) said there was nothing she could do. Then I spoke to her manager (also named Erin), who just gave me excuses and the runaround. I asked them to start the mortgage earlier if they needed the money so badly—they said no, it couldn’t be done. Meanwhile, they still want $4,000 for 45 days of interest when they should have only charged for 7 days. This is not my first loan—far from it—and I’ve never seen anything like this. No explanation, no accountability, no help. Just stress and financial scrambling after closing. I’m already in the process of refinancing because I refuse to stay with a company that can’t properly manage a loan. If I could give negative stars, I would. Avoid Lake Michigan Credit Union at all costs.

We have personal and business accounts with LMCU. They made both accounts "read only" due to a $5.00 balance on our LMCU credit card, which we don't even use. No call. No email. No letter notifying us of this egregious action. Unbelievable. Must be DEI policy running strong at this institution.

n 2-28-24 @ 8:40 am I had a very loud and sharp talking person over the phone from the lost preventions department. I had discovered I was two months late with my credit card payment, I did not receive any notification from LMCU for two whole months. I called in a panic like any responsible consumer would, and paid my past due balance in full. I was also looking to have the late fee reversed and to find out what could be done to keep LMCU from reporting this to the credit bureau, I work very hard to get/keep my good credit status. one Lady at card services was very nice and reversed the late charges which I appreciate very much. next I was transferred to the lost prevention department who handle reporting credit card late fees, the Lady I got was very loud and a very sharp talking person over the phone did not seem to have any compassion for the consumer (ME). I asked her if she could do anything to help me to not get a 60-90 late report on my credit file, given to fact that I receive no late warnings from LMCU for two months, her reply was no. and seem very rude. this is why it's hard for some people to get ahead because of a low credit score. I take responsibility for overlooking my payments. I have been and continue to be a good standing customer of LMCU up to now i have been very happy with the services I have received and would like to continue work with LMCU. I'm sure there was something she could have done to help me. she did not offer any advice. SHM. It's just not sitting well with me so I have no other options, this is why I'm filing a complaint and hopefully I can get the 60–90-day reporting removed from my file.

Terrible credit union policy, member service, loan service and credit service. They will freeze/restrict checking & operational funds & not give rewards for very bad reasons which root in their own technical banking issues. Could not technically complete a minimum payment with the online & app tools so they froze ALL funds, which would cover the whole credit card. Taking my money out and ending all relationship with this organization as soon as possible.

Mortgage dept is extremely rude. If you bank with LMCU and have a mortgage through them, don’t be late on a mortgage because they just lock your accounts. I asked them how this “punishment” affects clients that may be late on their mortgage and don’t bank with them? They couldn’t answer, so in fact banking with them and having a mortgage through them allows them to punish you more. When the mortgage dept locked my account all my funds were locked and I asked how I was supposed to feed my son and I was told “that isn’t my problem to figure that out.” I have banked with them for over 25 years. They will stand behind you as long as you don’t go through a financial hardship in your life, if you do, you’re on your own! It I could afford to have my mortgage removed from them I would in a second! Absolutely heartless responses from people.

This bank is a total joke. I filed a dispute 4 days ago after trying to hold a pending payment that I didnt approve. Payment ended up going through on my business account which put my account into the negative. I spoke to the third party whom told me they approved the dispute I filed and it was left up to the bank for reversal. When I called to speak with the fraud ***** the employee ****** told me that she couldnt help me because it was a Saturday and technically not a business day, even though they are open till 1pm and they are closed Monday as well for the holiday. So now my business cannot run properly due to poor employees and a business that cannot refund a payment that somehow came out of my account so easily but now is so hard to get reversed.

Construction loan process was a nightmare. The credit union requested the same documents multiple times and we kept getting passed around to different people. Then, in March 2022 we received our new tax assessment from the township. Knowing we would have a shortage on our escrow account if it wasn't adjusted, I reached out to LMCU. I was told by Sharon in the escrow department to send her the new assessment so they could do an analysis and I was very clear that I wanted to prevent a shortage. Emailed it on March 2, 2022. Fast forward to May 2023 and we now have a $1,600 shortage on our escrow account. Incompetent is too generous of a word for this company.
