On March 10, 2025, TrueAccord Corp. received your BBB complaint. TrueAccord has not heard from you prior to this complaint. We take every complaint seriously and appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns.

TrueAccord is a third party debt collection company established to reimagine the debt collection experience for consumers. Founded in 2013, TrueAccord communicates primarily via email and offers an inbound customer service center in the event a consumer prefers to call in and speak with a live agent. One of our guiding principles is treating our consumer-customers with dignity and respect. We are a licensed and bonded agency and registered with the CFPB. We maintain a full-time internal compliance department that established our policies and procedures to exceed the minimum regulatory requirements of the state, federal and local laws governing collections. Our in-house training program instructs our agents on these policies, including annual refresher courses.

TrueAccord does not own the account in question. The current creditor placed the account, including the contact information, with us and we loaded it into our system on April 4, 2024.

On April 5, 2024, TrueAccord sent you an initial email detailing the creditor, an itemization of the amount due, how the debt could be disputed, and the option to unsubscribe. It also included a link to the CFPB website (********************************) for you to learn more information about your federal rights.

TrueAccord has processed this complaint as a dispute. We have paused collection activity, requested debt verification from the current creditor, and will not resume collections until after the debt verification has been sent to the address on file.

As a result of this dispute, TrueAccord submitted a request on March 15, 2025 for the tradeline to be removed from the credit report. It typically takes around 45 days for the credit report to be updated by the credit bureaus. If you have additional questions regarding credit reporting, we suggest you reach out directly to the credit reporting agencies.

If you have any more questions, you can contact us via email at ********************** or by phone at ***** ********. Thank you.

True Accord has apparently purchased names of old debts from another debt collector. Without doing any research they have found my email and are currently harassing me to pay for a debt of another person. The spelling of the name is not the same as mine. I? have never lived in the city where the debt was incurred. I? never had a phone from Verizon in 2012. Instead True Accord found a similar name and email address and decided to send harassing emails to me from a virtual name, **** ****** from their business. This is ridiculous that I? have to do the work for them. I? intend to also make a complaint with the FTC as my research indicates this is the mo of this business. My credit had not better be affected by this bogus harassment and failure to do any research on the correct debtor.

    Business Response

    Date: 03/19/2025

On March 10, 2025, TrueAccord Corp. received the CFPB complaint filed by **** ******** ****** (“the consumer”). We take every complaint seriously and appreciate the opportunity to address the consumer’s concerns.

We maintain a full-time internal compliance department that established our policies and procedures to meet the requirements of the state, federal and local laws and regulations governing collections. Our in-house training program instructs our agents on these policies, including annual refresher courses.

On the onset, TrueAccord does not report to any of the credit bureaus for this creditor. If the consumer has questions regarding credit reporting, we suggest they reach out directly to the current creditor or the credit reporting agencies.
TrueAccord does not own the account in question. The current creditor placed the account, including the consumer’s contact information, with us and we loaded it into our system on December 12, 2024.

On December 16, 2024, TrueAccord sent the consumer an initial email detailing the creditor, an itemization of the amount due, how the debt could be disputed, and the option to unsubscribe. It also included a link to the CFPB website (********************************) for the consumer to learn more information about their federal rights.

On January 22, 2025, the consumer established a 6-month payment arrangement that would resolve the balance in full via our online web portal. The consumer made a payment on January 23, 2025 and February 20, 2025.

On March 7, 2025, the same day this complaint was filed, the consumer made a credit card payment that resolved the remaining balance which effectively resolved their account. When the consumer made the payment, they agreed to TrueAccord’s payment terms and conditions.  Once the payment was posted, it was remitted to the creditor in accordance with our policies and procedures.

Please note, prior to the consumer establishing a payment arrangement, we show no record of dispute or verification request. TrueAccord has processed this complaint as a dispute and has requested debt verification from the current creditor.

Since the consumer is now disputing the account, if the consumer wishes to receive a refund, they may contact us via email at ********************** or by phone at ***** ********. Thank you.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

I acknowledge that I paid the debt, and I was aware of the balance. However, I never formally admitted the debt was mine and did not receive proper verification before making payments.
I filed the BBB complaint because I felt the process lacked transparency. I made the payments in good faith to avoid further problems, but it wasn’t until after I submitted the complaint that the debt was removed from my credit report. That timing raised concerns for me.
I’m not seeking to deny the debt, but I believe the lack of verification before payment and the unclear communication were unfair. I would like this complaint to remain open on record. I am also considering requesting a refund and will contact the company directly as advised.

    Sincerely,

    **** ******** ******

TrueAccord has sent me emails about two supposed debts that I, in fact, do not have.
They claim I have a debt of $817.75, originally owed to ****** *** ***** ****, now owned by **** ******* *** but I have never had any services with them.
They also claim I have a debt of $832.10, originally owed to ******** now also owned by **** ******* ***.
Again, I have never had any accounts with ******* or Credit One Bank. I do not even live in those states. They either have the wrong human with a nearly but not identical name, or someone who is pretending to identify as myself. The current creditor has provided the wrong email address to them.
    I've confirmed my financial history.
I'm requesting TrueAccord cease and desist, as this is beginning to feel like harassment.

I have not received any notice prior to you adding this to my consumer credit report, which was supposed to allow me 30 days to dispute before you fraudulently added this account in my name. Please respond with all accounting information that gives you the right to collect on this debt. You must also send the valid contractual obligation which binds me to pay this debt. If you cannot provide this information in 30 days you must permanently delete this account from my consumer credit report immediately. This is TrueAccord Corp's ("TrueAccord") response to the Better Business Bureau regarding a complaint referenced as ******** submitted by ****** ******* on March 3, 2025. In the complaint, ****** ******* states that she is not liable for the debt with TrueAccord. For resolution, ****** ******* is requesting that TrueAccord correct and remove the tradeline from her credit report.

TrueAccord is a third-party debt collection company established to reimagine the debt collection experience for consumers. Founded in 2013, TrueAccord communicates primarily via email and offers an inbound customer service center in the event a consumer prefers to call in and speak with a live agent. At TrueAccord, we take every complaint seriously and appreciate the opportunity to respond. In response to ****** ********* complaint, we conducted a thorough investigation, and according to our records, TrueAccord has one account in our system for ****** *******, in which is the OppLoans account ending in **** (TrueAccord account number ending in ****).

We discovered that Opportunity Financial, LLC ("OppFi") had assigned a delinquent account belonging to ****** ******* to our organization for collection, with the entry recorded in our system on January 31, 2024. It is important to note that TrueAccord is not the owner of the aforementioned account. On February 1, 2024, TrueAccord sent ****** ******* an initial email detailing the creditor, an itemization of the amount due and how the debt could be disputed. It also included a link to the CFPB website (********************************) for the consumer to learn more information about their federal rights.

On March 3, 2025, TrueAccord processed this complaint as a dispute. We have paused collection activity, requested debt verification from the current creditor, and will not resume collections until after the debt verification has been sent to the address on file.

Furthermore, TrueAccord does not report to any of the credit bureaus for this client. If ****** ******* has questions or concerns regarding their credit report, we suggest they contact OppFi at ***** ********, or the credit bureaus.
Should ****** ******* have any additional questions or would like to take further action on their account, they may contact us via email at [email protected] or by phone at ***** ********. Thank you.

I am rejecting this response because:

It needs to be removed from my credit report if I do not have any documentation/contract proving that is my account.

I have an account with true accord for past debt. When I got enough money, they sent me another email so I paid the debt. Come to find out, there’s at least 2 other accounts that belong to other people that have my email associated with said accounts. So the debt I paid was somebody else’s. I reached out to them twice. First call I was told to compile an email with the issue, emails containing the wrong debt paid, cards used, etc. so I did. After 4 days of no response, I called back, but this time was told I HAVE to go through my bank to get the refund. That’s not what I was told the first time and now they had an email with all my personal information. To this day, I still have not gotten a response to the email I sent containing such information. So I went through my bank. This business has no website. Everything has to be done through email or phone. The bank asked me to email them for a list of payments to my account. Since I paid it to someone else’s account the didn’t have any payments made to mine. So they sent me an email stating I needed to call to get said information. My thoughts are so it wasn’t in writing and they couldn’t be held responsible if it was on the phone. This outfit is very shady. Has not tried to help me resolve this issue at all. And my bank cancelled my card because of the sensitive information that they told me to send in the first email. So this has been a nightmare all the way around. My bank is now on week 3 of trying to resolve this issue with, once again, no help from true accord whatsoever.

On February 25, 2025, TrueAccord Corp. received the BBB complaint filed by ****** *******(“the filer”). We take every complaint seriously and appreciate the opportunity to address the filer’s concerns.

We maintain a full-time internal compliance department that established our policies and procedures to meet the requirements of the state, federal and local laws and regulations governing collections. Our in-house training program instructs our agents on these policies, including annual refresher courses.

As an initial matter, TrueAccord has 9 accounts in our system for this consumer. TrueAccord has not received any payments on those 9 accounts.

TrueAccord does not own any of the accounts in question.

Please note that the contact information for the third party’s account was provided to TrueAccord by the current creditor. Since the filer has advised us that they are not the account holder, we have unsubscribed the filer’s email address from this account and will not contact the filer about this account again.

While the emails sent by TrueAccord did include the name of the responsible party, on December 17, 2024 the filer unfortunately proceeded to set up a payment arrangement on an account that was not his responsibility. On January 30, 2025 the filer realized the error and contacted us to reverse the payments. Our agent requested that the filer provide the information to our office in writing, as the funds had already been remitted to our client. Upon receipt of the written request, our agent failed to immediately request a refund from the client. We have submitted a coaching request for the agent who handled this matter.

Per the filer’s request, a refund has been initiated by our client and should be received by the filer within the next two weeks.

If the filer has any more questions, they may contact us via email at ********************** or by phone at ***** ********. Thank you.
