1 starThe igniter went bad on my water heater. Home Warranty, Inc. had me call a plumber. I spoke with Ron at HWI after the plumber visit and he told me the plumber said the part wasn't available. Since the "part wasn't available" HWI would allow me $500 dollars toward a new hot water tank and declared the tank unrepairable. This would leave me with NO FUTURE COVERAGE ON THE TANK. However the plumber told me the part WAS available and he would gladly order and install it. I then called Ron back and he said he would call the plumber to confirm it. About a minute later Ron called me back and said he called the plumber and that the plumber maintains that the part is not available (Ron also made some sort of veiled threat that my voice was being recorded). I called the plumber and asked if Ron called. The plumber said Ron HADN'T called. So Ron lied to me about calling the plumber in order to cheat me out of a routine repair and, thereby, cancelling future coverage on my hot water tank. I told the plumber to order the part and install it, and that I would cancle Home Warrantee, Inc. Beware this of this company!Home Warranty of the Midwest, Inc

1 starThis company is not helpful at all! I would not recommend them. We purchased a home warranty for my daughter when she purchased her first home to help give her piece of mind the first year in case anything should happen. She has had two things come up and every time they find a reason why it isn't their fault and you did something wrong. The one repair company they contract with for appliances is incompetent. She was having problems with her stove smoking and smelling, at first it was it needs cleaned (which it didn't) then it was it was too clean and the cleaning products are burning off. The guy said everything was fine collected his $100 deductible and left and the oven was smoking and stinking up the entire house. I brought it to his attention that hey this oven is smoking. He said it was perfectly normal and left. Needless to say we had to buy her a new oven. Her garage door/opener malfunctioned and didn't open all the way up which caused her to hit part of the door. We had a local repair man send in all the information to have repaired and the guy at home warranty yelled at us and told us if she wouldn't of hit the door this wouldn't have happened. No the door/opener malfunctioned that is why she hit part of the door. The are rude and a total waste of money.Review fromLuis M

1 starWhen it comes to this warranty provider, RUN don't walk away from giving these people any money. Their answer to just about anything is "not our problem" and resort to telling customers and contractors to perform hack jobs on repairs needed if you even get a response from them at all. Buyers should go with another provider.Review fromKari R

1 starThis is a scam! You pay for warranty and then if something happens to be covered - most appliances are not and must be "added on" - it is horrible to get them to cover! Purchased our home in August 2022, our washing machine went out. Contacted Home Warranty and they advised us who to contact. Repair company came right out and informed us of what was needed, said it would be here within a day or two. Repair company contacted Home Warranty and they denied claim stating part could be ordered cheaper on Ebay and that it had to be ordered from there even though the part on Ebay was backordered. Contacted a Supervisor Rob last Thursday about issue. Said he would look into it and call me back. I called him again on Friday and he stated he was waiting to hear back from repair company and would call back by the end of the day. I received no call back and they had not attempted to contact the repair company either. Called him again today and he stated there was nothing they were going to do and we would just have to continue to wait for the piece. So we have now been without a washing machine for 2+ weeks because the warranty wanted to purchase as cheap of parts as they could!! Warranty is a scam and obviously, the customer service is horrible as well.Home Warranty of the Midwest, Inc

2 starsI recently filed a claim with my home warranty company for my oven. I was given the option to either receive $700 for reimbursement or have a second technician come out and look at my oven. On the initial call, I mentioned that I would like to go with the second technician, but after further thought, I decided to go with the $700 reimbursement. However, when I called back to request the reimbursement, I was told that I had no other choice but to have the second technician come out. When the second technician arrived, they found that the part that needed to be replaced originally (and was told had been replaced) was not even in my oven from the first recommended tech. Despite this, I was only reimbursed $764, which is short the amount of money I paid for the technician ($107.00) and on top of the $700 reimbursement for my oven. I spoke with a supervisor who stated that they would not give me any more money. I believe that this is unfair and I would like to request that you make this right. Additionally, I received a check from the home warranty company that was only for the Lowe's receipt and did not mention anything about the second opinion. I believe that this is another issue that needs to be addressed. I would appreciate it if you could provide me with a more detailed explanation of the reimbursement process and why I was not fully reimbursed for the cost of the technician.Review fromPrakash T

1 starAbsolutely a waste of money!! No one would come look at our stove when it was failing. Then when I called Home Warranty, I was told that there is no guarantee that this insurance is good in my area. WHAT?!! Then why sell it to me? If you do not cover my area, then do not take my money! The woman was not even nice about it. Worst customer service. They are rude and this is unacceptable!!!!Home Warranty of the Midwest, Inc

Jolene, we just want to verify that you are reviewing the correct company. We show you have not been a customer for over two years. We went back through all our call recordings and the only one we can find is when a male claims adjuster spoke with another male. There was no mention of insurance or inability to find a service contractor. The claims adjuster specifically mentioned that we can work with any service company you choose to diagnose your covered items. The call was very straight forward and professional.Review fromJ. B.

1 starBe sure to read the entire policy before filing a claim. We filed a claim for our water heater having thermostat issues and a slight leak on day 27 after activating the policy, and the policy states it will not cover leaks within the first 30 days. So they covered nothing. Our only consolation is that we didn’t pay for this policy. Would not recommend to others.Home Warranty of the Midwest, Inc

1 starFirst thing you should know is that they will really only cover about 40% of any repair (in practice). They covered about 700$ of our 1800$ water heater replacement. They would only pay for the cheapest possible replacement and 50$ for installation. It would have meant a huge downgrade from our previous unit. They claim to cover reasonable labor cost but when I asked them how 50$ was reasonable they told me "do it yourself". When Our refrigerator went out but they would not cover a cent because it is under partial manufacturers warranty. The manufacturers warranty does not cover cost of Freon, labor and some parts. So we are stuck paying the 645$ out of pocket. Not sure what these guys a good for, would strongly suggest finding another home warranty company.Home Warranty of the Midwest, Inc

Lee, we show the bill from the plumbing company was $925 and we covered $825 on the water heater. The $100 difference is your deductible. We also show we replaced your sump pump, paid an air conditioning claim, and yes, the compressor to your refrigerator was under mfg. warranty so you needed to contact the manufacturer for claim coverage. We will not duplicate coverage already provided by the manufacturer. We certainly regret to hear that you were less than satisfied. We clearly outline our coverage in our terms and conditions and strive to be transparent in our coverage.Review fromCecilia L

1 starWe purchased a policy in Sep '22 that included $2,500 coverage for HVAC. Our home inspection 3 weeks prior to closing on our house and purchasing the policy showed the system was in good condition. Routine maintenance in March '23 (still well within the coverage period) showed various issues with the AC had developed. We got estimates for repair and replacement and shared all this documentation with HomeWarranty, Inc. They denied our claim on a technicality:
When I called to file the claim, they asked if we had been using the AC. I said no, it's been winter. They thus denied us, saying coverage only applies to units that were working properly and that this could not be determined since we hadn't been using it. They said the home inspection was invalid since it was done 3 weeks prior to the policy start date. I explained that we also did our due diligence the day of closing, turning on all appliances, faucets, etc. to make sure everything in the house was still in proper working condition. Additionally, when I filled my husband in a couple hours later, he called them and let them know that he had actually run the AC with no problem over a hot weekend in October when he was doing work on the house and that I hadn't been aware of this when I called. (We didn't actually move in till January but were intermittently there doing work before that.)
They refused to consider both the clarification of having checked the system the day of our closing as well as my husband's additional info, and insisted that because my first answer was that we hadn't been using the AC, that our claim must be denied. We now have to find an arbitrator and go through a binding arbitration process, as the contract requires this rather than allowing for a court case.
They are running a bad-faith scam operation. This should have been a very clear-cut, easy to approve case.
Additionally, I had to deal with a lot of sexism from the claims rep, and they won't release the recordings of our calls.
