Reason for the complaint: Improper device charge – package was tampered with in transit
On April 27, 2025, I returned a damaged phone as part of the device replacement process through Assurant insurance (contracted via T-Mobile). I used the packaging and return label they provided, and I dropped off the package through Snap 2/USPS. According to the tracking number, the package was received by Assurant on May 1.
However, I was later notified that the box arrived empty and I was charged $****** on my June T-Mobile bill. I followed all instructions, returned the device properly, and USPS has suggested the package may have been tampered with during transit.
I have attempted to resolve this directly with Assurant, but they insist that I am responsible for the device, ignoring the evidence and the fact that I had no control over the package once it was shipped.
I respectfully request the intervention of the BBB to review this case and assist in obtaining a refund for the charge that was unfairly applied.Business Response

my husband and I had made a claim with insurance on May 7 after having a wind and hail storm happen on May 6 they had sent out a license adjuster who they had been recommended saying that we should get a contractor out to assess the damage and expose leak because they cannot determine where the leak was coming from.we had sent in a supplement to assurance for additional damage damages, we were told that this needed a new roof assurant had drag this claim on for almost 45 days just to deny us and tell us that we were liars at this previous damage and that they are going forward or should not cover anything at all. I was never able to speak with a manager. I had also try to make a claim with assurance corporate office and got nowhere. I am now almost $**** out of pocket between paying for secondary contractors to reevaluate the situation of the repairs to our home that would be need to fix the leak correctly, along with paying for inspection fees to provide assurance this was not previous damage and that this is caused by a storm that we did have on May 6.Business Response

I am upset with the time it has taken for Assurant deem my dishwasher irreparable and the buyout price that they offered. I’m also displeased with her overall customer service. It is very hard to reach a representative by phone
I initially called in my problem to Assurant in Nov. 2024. The repair man diagnosed the problem in December, he replaced a part in January, it was still broken. He came back out on February 26 ordered two more parts. He came out again on March 26 replacing the parts and realized there was another issue that should’ve been diagnosed back when he first cane out in Dec (the inverter board). The wrong parts were sent to me so there was yet another delay. He came out on April 21 , came out again on May 12 as wrong parts were sent a second time and finally came out his last time after those parts did not work. That’s when the dishwasher was noted as irreparable.
I am quite frustrated as I have not had a working dishwasher since December . I would certainly hope that Assurant will compensate me more than the $***** that you are offering me.
I work full-time and had to leave my job on several occasions related to dishwasher repair appointments where my dishwasher was not fixed. I’ve also made numerous phone calls to **, Assurant and ******** related to my overall problems and the delays.
The cost to purchase a new dishwasher that is similar to mine - another ******** is resulting in me spending another $*** out-of-pocket after applying the $****.Business Response

I had a claim with them for Xfinity claim number is ********, I took my phone to the authorized repair facility which repaired my screen however during this process they damaged my cameras software or mechanics i took it back in and they confirmed there is no cracks etc however they stated they could not fix it and there is nothing they can do, I then called Assurant and had to ask for a supervisor because their solution is to make me pay $****** for a replacement to be sent the supervisor then sent me to xfinity whom I spoke with and they can't send out a replacement because my phone is not in warranty, I then call Assurant back and same thing ask for a supervisor who again refuses to do anything, ask for his supervisor and so far nothing so now I file this, it is absolutely unacceptable to suggest a customer have to pay a deductible for damage they did not cause and that this companys authorized repair facility caused, I am not paying for something I did not do nor cause I have photos from after the claim was filed showing my camera working perfectly fine and now notBusiness Response

claim for stolen property on renters insurance claim made i need to reach them to send documents and answer questions as well as ask questions. Logan Mathis and her manager are my sole claim representatives. 8 phone calls over 1 week to Logan and 4 phone calls to manager. I left messages every time as well as emails multiple times. the representatives can not reach her as when they try and i called another help line. once yesterday Logan responded to a help representative via chat on their software and got my number to call me asap. I have a mobile device through ******* on which I have been paying $** /mth for 360 coverage. The device has been insured from the day I activated it, some ** months ago. It was recently damaged and I have submitted claims with the 2 IMEI numbers assigned to it. Both times the claim was rejected with the reason being that it was not insured. I simply want them to provide the service I have been paying for. I have since canceled the I insurance (after the incident) as I refuse to pay money to a company that doesn't meet their obligations.Business Response

On April 14th, 2025 I filed a claim with Assurant for my damaged T-Mobile phone. I received a new phone on April 15th, 2025 along with a return box and label for the damaged phone. I put the damaged phone in the box provided along with the shipping label provided and dropped off at USPS in Jupiter, FL on April 17th,2025. The package was successfully delivered to Assurant on April 23rd, 2025. I attached my receipt from USPS showing the original package weight and tracking number. On April 29th, 2025 I received a letter from Assurant saying "please return your damaged device to us" although the package had already been delivered. I called Assurant customer service and the representative stated the box had been opened, was empty, and asked me to send in a copy of my receipt from USPS which I did. I am currently still being charged by T-Mobile the cost of the phone even though I have done all the necessary steps as requested by Assurant to prove I sent back the damaged device within the time frame.Business Response

I have a current warranty for a samsung side by side refrigerator thru assurant inc. I have filed a claim on May 14th 2025 to repair a ice maker and magnet for door under my warranty contract. I paid a deductible also paying my normal service contract. They provided me a service company by the name of *****. ***** has given a run around stating that parts are back ordered. I have received parts as of 2 weeks ago to date and ***** will not schedule appointment cause there systems states no parts have been received. I have made multiple attempts to get a service and nothing. They have failed me in every aspect possible. I have called multiple times and just get a run around. I'm a Chase Sapphire Reserve Customer. As part of their benefit package, they offer a travel insurance coverage (up to $******). I had to cancel my trip due to a medical condition (I've provided them with the doctor's note and all requested documentations). I've submitted my claim on May 26, 2025 - Claim# ********. The last document was uploaded on June 3, 2025.
I didn't buy additional travel insurance, because it didn't make a lot of sense. I purchased the coverage for my tour through Gate 1, and the rest of the expense was very minimal - $******. Purchasing a separate travel insurance would cost me more than that.
I've contacted Chase Travel benefit multiple times since June 3rd. I was told that the decision will be made by June 16th. The company's turnaround for these types of claims is 7-10 business days. Every time I called, I was told that the claim adjuster is still looking at it. I asked for a Supervisor's help 3 times. I was told that all Supervisors are busy and I will receive a call back within 24-48 hours. Nobody ever called me back.
The annual cost for this credit card is $****** and I paid it to make sure I have this benefit available.
I also send an email to the ******* ********, who is the Senior Vice President - Customer Experience, but received no response.
Please help me to recover the $****** that I'm not able to do.

Purchased extended warranty or protection plan. Have been with out a refrigerator for over 2 months. Its summer and I have 4 kids and very expensive medicine I have to keep cold. I've lost it 4 times now costing over $**** plus my child's medications as well. Not to mention the cost of being forced to eat out due to no way to keep food cold at home. I have taken off work and lost money only to have the repair men never show. They have been out multiple times and cannot fix it. It would of cost much less to just replace it for them than to keep sending repair men who dont know how to fix it and or wont and refuse to replace a part ordered by the previous repair man. This has cost me ****s im a low income home and this has put us into financial ruin and we cant recover from this kind of loss. This greedy company is a nightmare to deal with. Hours and hours and hours spent wasted on the phone getting nowhere. I cant buy ice every day. This is so harmful to American families. This warranty is a scam. I am contacting a consumer protection attorney, the FTC, the FPB, the Consumer financial protection bureau and the attorney general. I do not have enough time to write every detail of this company and our dealings, due to the fact that I have spent my entire last 2 days writing and contacting everyone and anyone who can help me take on this corrupt and greedy shady business. All I want is for my refrigerator I Purchased less than 2 years ago be replaced or fixed in a professional time frame. It seems the point of this is too wear down the customer so they just give up and let you keep thier money. The hassle is astronomical and ridiculous and totally an abuse on the public. They have lied about parts not arriving on time so needing ti reschedule multiple times now when the part showed uo the next day. I dont know how to survive this kind of a financial blow. This is robbery and criminal. I also made a request for investigation on YOU Paid For It.Business Response
