CarInfoStory says its a $1 dollar charge for the 1st week then ***** after, I tried canceling via the website doesn't work. I switched to a card that has no money on it and today they tried charging me *****. I look it up on ******, its a common scam and people cannot stop them from charging their debit cards because its a "subscription". When one person tried calling the phone number the customer service person told them to "Pull up and fight" You can try and email them and they still charge you as well is what others are saying. I want them investigated and to be sure others are not scammed. I just googled it and a reddit thread popped up, multiple exist so I know it is happening to others and it should not be.

I used this online service to get info about a vehicle using a VIN. They somehow setup a recurring automatic payment in my ****** account for $29.95 that I did not authorize and they offer no real way to contact them and all email replies are automated and just run you around in circles when you request a refund.

    Complaint: 22472079

I am rejecting this response because:

They tried and I provided evidence of the attempt. They have since apparently cancelled the transaction but only because I initially removed all money and links to bank account so that there were not sufficient funds available. Then I raised this issue with you, the BBB. Had I not taken any of these actions they would have proceeded to charge me. Thus business is untrustworthy and engages in predatory practices and thus should be noted in order to protect other consumers. I do not know what outcomes are available to address this. If there is nothing else that can be done, then this can be closed.
    Sincerely,

    ******* ****

I had a subscription under their company Vinhistoryusa. After i found the info i needed i attempted to cancel. They do not cancel your subscription even though they say they do. I canceled in July and they have since charged me $29.95 twice. They send "cancelation links" that come up with an error when you attempt to cancel. When you call their phone number ***************) If you click one to cancel it just hangs up. Going through email or live chat doesn't work either as they say they cannot cancel for you and they send you one of the links that do not work.

We have reached out to this customer regarding this discrepancy with their account. Their subscription has been cancelled and we have issued a full and immediate refund of all charges for their inconvenience. Thank you.

I was in ******** viewing used cars. I was interested in a **** Edge that was located at *********** in *****. To view information about the car there was an advertisement to pay $1 to view the car report. I paid, was charged, and viewed the report for $1. I never clicked a box or otherwise agreed to a monthly subscription. The company then charged me $29.95 for July, August. And September

    Business Response

    Date: 10/23/2024

All charges stated in this customer's complaint were part of our monthly subscription fees and all fees are stated clearly and directly in multiple areas and pages of our website, including on the checkout page and pricing page which are both accessible before any payment is made. We state clearly on our website that we charge $1 for the initial report which also automatically enrolls you in a 7 day trial period for our monthly subscription. If a customer does not cancel their subscription before the trial period is up, they will be charged $29.95 a month from that point forward. All charges and subscription terms are agreed to upon purchase of initial report and registration of account and all subscriptions and trials can be cancelled at anytime on our website or via email or phone line. We have already cancelled this customer's account so they will not be charged again.

    Thank you.

I am rejecting this response because:

The statement from the business is absolutely untrue.  I am customer who is vigilant about subscriptions and added fees and I actively look for fees and subscriptions before making purchases online.  I use a third party like Zelle or ****** to purchase online because I am aware that there is rampant fraud on the internet.  At the ******* website when I purchased the $1 car report, there was nothing to indicate a subscription was attached to the report.  I cannot recreate my experience because it happened in the past.  I will reach out to ******* to see if they can tell me what their agreement is with this business and where that language is located for customers.  At purchase, I  did not check a box, or see any indication that the $1 car report was attached to a monthly subscription upon purchase.  I did see that language when I was told to go to the website to cancel the subscription, that I never consented to purchase.

    Sincerely,

I have contacted ********.  I have an email about the exact listing and I have asked them to provide the advertising for that particular listing.  I did see that same information mentioned in your message about the  subscription in the website and when I called about the charges on my card they directed me to the website with that same information.  My recollection is that this information WAS not part of the advertisement on ******** which lead to my outrage after I discovered the charges.  When I clicked on the $1 report from the ******** site I do not recall any information about a subscription, and did not see the subscription information until I went to website to cancel.  I purchased a $1 report and received the report.  That was a legit transaction, the subscription was deceptive and not advertised with the $1 advertising.

Today, and last week, this company charged me *****. A total of ***** for services ive never signed up for. About a year ago they did the same thing and i had my bank block their terminal. They just keep using different *********** that trace back to the same company.Last year when it happened I seeked to file interstate ecommerce charges but failed to because the transaction never posted. Now I have 1 transaction posted and 1 pending and will absolutely be pressing charges once the pending one posts. The last time this happened I got Hunter (the owners) entire families addresses and phone numbers and spoke by phone with his father. He assured me this wouldnt happen again. Yet here we are. When you call 1 phone number to this company it hangs up. You call another phone nunber and press 1 and it hangs up.If you dig a little further youll find a working number. When I pressed 1 and entered the card information THEY COULDNT LOCATE MY ACCOUNT. Which means, they are charging a previous card that has been canceled, which would constitue FRAUD.
