20 December 2024 On Saturday, 7 December 2024, Bates Exterminating did our bimonthly lawn spray. On Sunday, our neighbor called and said their dog had gotten a green substance on its paws that would not wash off. Two representatives of Bates Exterminating came to our home on Monday and explained they had added a nontoxic green dye to the spray. My wife was assured that this was no longer a problem as green dye did not get on their shoes as they walked on the lawn and that it was nontoxic. For several reasons, she did not take our dog, REMOVED, on the lawn before my return on Friday. On Friday evening, I walked our dog, REMOVED, on the lawn and much to my surprise, he had gotten green dye on his paws and a few inches up his legs that would not wash off. However, there was no dye on my shoes. Also, green dye came from the grass when wiped with a paper towel. On Saturday I sent a picture of the towels to a representative of Bates Exterminating, who offered no help . A further inspection of our property showed green dye on our seawall, green dye on our house and green dye on some walkway bricks. This had never happened before in all the years (32) that Bates Exterminating sprayed our lawn.On Friday, 20 December, green dye was still coming off on the paws of our neighbors dog as well as on a paper towel when wiped on the grass. My only recourse was to have our landscaping company come and cut the lawn very short and rake up the cuttings. I took this letter to Bates Exterminating this Friday and would let them know the charge and asked to be reimbursed on Monday, 23 December. I would come by with the landscaping invoice and they could give me a check in the amount of the invoice.I just received a call from Bates Exterminating this Friday telling me the owner refused to pay the landscaping bill because we had an agreement that Bates exterminating was not responsible for anything wrong done to our lawn.REMOVED

The owner said he knows the BBB routine and does not need to respond. He refuses to say why we have a problem with green dye coming from the lawn onto our dog's paws after his company treated our lawn. We never had that problem from them for 32 years. Finally, after 24 days, our dog can walk on the lawn again with no, (or maybe a faint trace), of green dye coming off on his paws.

The owner has now blocked my messages so I can no longer give him an update from my phone.

I am astounded that a business owner would treat a longtime customer in this fashion.
