This is a debt consolidation company. However they mislead you into thinking they are performing diligent work for you without explaining that the outcome will be very harmful to you. They allow you to be harassed and simply advise we sent out the power of attorney letters. Yet instead of getting the creditors on the phone and working out a repayment plan they simply let the late fees continue to escalate. I attempted to cancel my contract with them without a positive outcome.Business Response

Cordoba Legal Group is not a debt consolidation company; we are a legitimate law firm focused on assisting individuals facing financial challenges by negotiating resolutions with creditors. Our contract is clear about the services we provide, and before retaining our firm, all clients confirm their understanding of the process on a recorded line to ensure there is no confusion about the scope of our work.
Its important to clarify several points you raised:
- Transparency in Services: Our contract clearly outlines that our role is to negotiate resolutions for debts. Clients also confirm their understanding of potential impacts, such as temporary credit score declines or creditor contact, before moving forward with us. This ensures informed decision-making from the outset.
- Power of Attorney and Creditor Communication: ************* of attorney letters is an essential part of the process to notify creditors of our representation. While this may not immediately halt all contact from creditors, it is a necessary step for us to negotiate resolutions effectively. Late fees and creditor actions may continue as part of this process, but our goal is to achieve resolutions that are significantly more favorable than continued payments or escalated collection efforts.
- Progress Toward Resolutions: The timeline for resolutions varies depending on factors such as creditor responsiveness and account specifics. However, we only collect performance-based fees for results we achieve, ensuring our incentives align with your success.
We understand your frustration regarding the perceived timeline and outcome. While our work does not always produce immediate visible results, it is designed to deliver long-term financial relief by reducing the overall debt burden. A team member will reach out to discuss your concerns, review the status of your file, and address any questions about the process.Customer Answer

I signed up for Cordoba Legal in May 2024 the agent advised me they would negotiate with my creditors and settle my debt for a lower fee. I gave them over 12 accounts and they only settled 2 by December. They took over ******* and my credit score went down to 480. I told the agent on the phone I would be moving in February he guarantee I would be in a better position than if I just kept paying the minimum credit card payments. I was declined on renting an apartment and didnt have any where to move. I had to stay in my overpriced apartment and was unable to get a job because of my credit score. I was told not to pay any of my bills and they would take care of it but instead I got myself in a worse situation than I was in before. I believe this company is fraud and lies to sign people up. I believe they didnt keep their promise so I believe I should only pay them for the accounts they did close. My damage is far worse than money can fix but I can start paying down my debt.Business Response

Cordoba Legal Group is committed to providing quality legal services to clients who face financial hardships. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify your concerns.
Our records show that you began your 28-month personalized plan in May 2024. In just seven months, our team successfully achieved four resolutions for your accounts, which puts us ahead of the pace required to complete your plan within the agreed time frame. This demonstrates that our performance is exceeding expectations and that we are working diligently on your behalf. Additionally, the fees paid to our firm are directly tied to the debt we resolve. To date, we have not collected the full fee owed for the results we have achieved for you.
Its important to address a few points you raised:
- Regarding Credit Scores: The possibility of a decline in credit scores during this process is explicitly stated in our contract and was confirmed with you on a recorded line before you retained our services. Our process is designed for individuals unable to continue making payments to their creditors. While credit scores may decline temporarily, the goal is to resolve debts at a lower amount, relieving the financial burden in the long term.
- Advising Not to Make Payments: At no point do we advise clients to stop making payments. Instead, we explain that our process is specifically designed for those who are already struggling with or unable to make payments. This allows us to effectively negotiate with creditors.
- Progress on Your Accounts: While you mention that only two accounts were resolved by December, this is not accurate. Our records indicate that four accounts have been resolved within the first seven months of your personalized plan. This is a strong indicator of progress, especially given the typical timeline of such plans.
- Performance and Legitimacy: Cordoba Legal Group is a legitimate law firm. Claims suggesting otherwise are not accurate. We operate under clear and transparent contracts, and our fees are earned based on measurable results.
We regret to hear about your challenges in securing a new apartment and the additional stress this caused. However, we cannot guarantee specific outcomes such as credit score improvements or the ability to qualify for housing within a particular time frame, as these factors depend on various external circumstances beyond our control.
We value your business and want to ensure your concerns are fully addressed. A team member will reach out to review your file, provide additional clarification, and discuss the next steps to help you achieve the financial relief youre seeking.Initial Complaint

In early November 2024, I received a letter from Lending Link stating I "have been pre-selected for a personal loan through Lending Link." I responded to the email, completed the application, and on November 26, 2024 was finally able to discuss the options further on the phone with them. When discussing the offer with the representative from Lending Link and Cordoba, it was never explained to me that this was not a loan, and that I would have to let any of my current credit balances go into default/collections before anything could be done. I was alarmed when Cordoba Legal auto-debited $312.98 from my account on 12/13/2024, but none of my credit balances showed to be paid. I still had to pay them ($45.00 on 12/13/24 to ********** $240.57 to ************ on 12/23/24, $144 to Care Credit on 12/31/2024), as well as the amount deducted from my account by *********************************************. I attempted to communicate with them via writing to discuss this confusing matter, to which they would only respond that they attempted calling me (they would not respond in writing). They called from different phone numbers each time, each from different states as well, so I did not know it was them. I did not know until I answered a call one day, where a representative from Cordoba asked if I had any questions (he was NOT returning a call/calling in response to my email), and I asked him why I was charged by Cordoba as well as having to pay my credit accounts. This was when I was explained that I would have to let my accounts go into default for them to be paid. I want a refund ($312.98, $45, $240.57, $144) and termination my contract with Cordoba Legal and Lending Link as soon as possible. I was approved and applied for a personal loan and that is not what this is.Business Response

Thank you for sharing the details of your experience. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify Cordoba Legal Groups services and address your concerns.
We want to ensure that there is a clear understanding of our program. Cordoba Legal Group is a debt resolution company that works to negotiate and settle unsecured debts on behalf of our clients. We do not offer loans or operate as a lending institution. This distinction is explained during enrollment and further reiterated during our Welcome Call. As part of this call, clients are asked to verbally acknowledge that they understand Cordoba Legal Group is not providing a loan and that we do not make payments directly to creditors.
All of our outbound calls come from the same phone number and not from multiple states, as you suggested. Our priority is to maintain open lines of communication, and we have made several attempts to contact you directly to provide any assistance you may need. When a client enrolls with us, we call four times in the first month to answer any questions and ensure you feel fully supported. The call that took place on December 26th, during which you spoke with one of our employees, was one of those calls. After the agent answered your questions during that conversation, you did not express any further concerns or a desire to cancel your account.
As outlined in the agreement you signed upon enrollment, clients can cancel their accounts at any time by simply making the request. Upon reviewing your file, we see no record of any prior cancellation or refund requests made to us. That said, we will cancel your account and process your refund as requested.
Additionally, a member of our management team will contact you today to address any further questions or concerns you may have.
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We are committed to providing transparency and support throughout this process.Customer Answer

I contacted Cordoba Legal about a debt consolidation in October 2023. I had $25,954 in credit card debt. I spoke to ****** ** and was told I would make payments of $472.88 for 42 months to have them settle my debts. I was told to not contact any of the creditors or make any payments and to contact them if I received any collection letters because they would be my legal counsel. In November and December 2024, I received a legal summons from two of the creditors. When I reached out to Cordoba Legal, I was first told an additional $497 would be needed then another $107. When asked the reason for the increase, I was told the account was out of money. When I sign into the portal, it shows I have only paid $3477.51 when I have made 11 payments of $472.88 for $5674.56 and one payment of $497, which makes the total $6171.56. Even if Cordoba is a legitimate company, its practices need to be reviewed and a valid explanation given.Business Response

Cordoba Legal Group appreciates the opportunity to provide clarity regarding your concerns. Below, we address the matters raised based on the facts and your contract with our firm:
Legal Summons and Resolution Process:
As noted, we have successfully achieved four resolutions on your behalf, one of which involved a legal matter, and we are currently handling another legal case. These are complex legal issues, and retaining a law firm like Cordoba Legal Group ensures you have professional representation. While legal action from creditors is uncommon, it is possible, and this is explicitly explained in your contract.
Adjustments to Funding Needs:
The increased funding request reflects the immediate need to address a legal matter that arose unexpectedly. While our approach typically spaces out resolutions to maintain consistent payments, legal cases sometimes require expedited funding. This adjustment is aimed at resolving the matter efficiently and does not mean you are paying more overall but rather reallocating funds to meet the urgent requirements of your case.
Communication Regarding Payments and Creditors:
Cordoba Legal Group does not instruct clients to stop making payments to creditors. Instead, our process is designed for individuals who are already unable to meet their obligations, as explained during onboarding and in your contract. Additionally, we advise clients to direct collection notices to our firm so we can act as their legal representative.
Payment Discrepancies:
We are not sure why your portal would only show that you paid only $3,477.51 as we agree your payments into your personal account does equal more than that. We will address this with our It team as well.
Legitimacy and Practices:
Cordoba Legal Group is a legitimate law firm that adheres to all applicable regulations and ethical standards. We are committed to resolving your debts through a transparent and performance-based fee structure, which ensures that fees are only earned after achieving results.
If further clarification is needed, a team member will reach out to review your account details and payment history to ensure complete transparency and address any outstanding questions. Your trust is important to us, and we remain dedicated to assisting you through this process.Customer Answer

Cordoba Legal Group appreciates the opportunity to address your concerns. After thoroughly reviewing the materials provided, we can confirm that the attachments you mentioned do not include any email from our firm instructing you to stop making payments. Furthermore, ****** ** is not an employee or representative of Cordoba Legal Group.
It is important to clarify that Cordoba Legal Group does not advise clients to stop making payments to their creditors. The process is specifically designed to assist individuals who are already unable to make their payments due to financial hardship. This is outlined in our communications and contracts. If you have additional documentation or questions, our team is available to review them with you to ensure clarity.

Cordoba Legal Group is a legitimate law firm specializing in providing assistance to individuals facing financial hardship. We take all complaints seriously and strive to address concerns professionally and factually.
It is important to address the allegations and provide clarity based on our records:
Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA):
Cordoba Legal Group is not a credit repair agency. We do not make false or misleading claims about our ability to reduce debt. Clients are informed that credit scores may decline as part of the process, and this is explicitly outlined on page 7, section 3 of the contract. Clients also acknowledge this verbally on a recorded line. It is also clearly stated in the same section that no specific results or timelines can be guaranteed. Any claim suggesting otherwise misrepresents the terms you agreed to upon signing.
Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA):
We do not claim that creditors or collectors will cease communication. This is detailed in page 7, section 6 of your contract, which specifies that creditor or collector calls may continue. At no point have we made deceptive claims about the legal consequences of non-payment, nor have we suggested that creditor communications would cease after entering your personalized plan.
Transparency in Fees and Timelines:
Cordoba Legal Group operates on a performance-based fee structure. Fees are only taken after achieving results, which is clearly stated on page 4, section A of the contract. Furthermore, potential timelines for achieving resolutions are addressed in page 8, section 11, which specifies that timelines can vary due to the complexity of each case. All terms were outlined transparently, and you acknowledged them during the onboarding process.
Retaliation Claim:
The claim that our team engaged in retaliation by notifying creditors is baseless and incorrect. The firm works in clients' best interests, adhering to ethical and legal standards. It is unclear why this interpretation has arisen, but no action was taken to retaliate against you.
Unethical Advice and Alleged Instructions to Miss Payments:
Cordoba Legal Group does not advise clients to stop making payments to creditors. Instead, our process is designed for individuals who are already unable to meet their payment obligations. Any suggestion to the contrary is inaccurate. The document and email attachments mentioned do not appear to be tied to our firm, as they do not involve our employees.
Resolution Achieved:
Within one month, we successfully achieved a resolution with one of your creditors, resulting in a 50% reduction in your debt. This performance highlights the results-driven approach of our services. All funds, aside from what was paid toward this resolution, have been refunded, as appropriate.
We will not disclose this number in a public forum but please look at one of your attachments. Based on this email that was prior to you retaining our law firm you can see your credit score. Cordoba Legal Group remains committed to helping clients navigate challenging financial situations while adhering to all applicable laws and maintaining transparent practices. If you require further clarification, a team member will reach out to address your concerns and provide any additional assistance necessary.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:1) Cordoba did not provide evidence to reject my claims of deceptive behavior, unethical practices, damaging my credit and informed me to stop making payments on my bills for ******* days.
Further, in CLGs experience, it typically takes approximately ******* days before reaching the
stage at which CLG can begin reaching out to creditors or collectors and achieve Clients
first settlement. If you have multiple debts, CLG typically will make a settlement offer to the
next creditor within 3-6 months of the prior debt being settled and after you have saved at
least 25% of the debt due to that next creditor.
You hereby authorize FORTH to: (1) open an Account for You,which shall be utilized to hold funds that You deposit; and (2) disburse those funds to: (a) make payments as set forth in Your Program or as directed by Your ****; (b) pay the fees in connection with the Services as set forth herein (the Service Fees); and (c) to pay any fees or expenses to Your **** pursuant to Your Program (the Program Fees). You hereby designate the **** as Your agent for purposes of authorizing those payments, disbursements, and deposits in accordance with Your Program, and agree that FORTH may act upon any instruction from your **** as if it had come directly from You.
2) Participating in the Cordoba debt management program damaged my credit (my credit score decreased by over 100 points) and I was not informed that my credit would be damaged.
3) As provided previously Cordoba informed me that I had to stop making payments on my bills to participate in the program.

Cordoba Legal Group is committed to providing transparent and effective legal services. We take this complaint seriously and would like to address the concerns raised.
First, the individual referenced in this complaint, Mr. ***** ********** ********************** is not affiliated with Cordoba Legal Group. His email domain does not match our organization, and we are unclear about his connection to this matter. Our team will investigate this further, but any statements made by individuals not employed by our firm do not reflect Cordoba Legal Groups practices or procedures.
Regarding the claim that the client was not informed about potential credit impacts, we want to clarify that before finalizing the retainer agreement, clients are required to acknowledgeboth in writing and verbally on a recorded linethat their credit may be negatively affected. This disclosure is also clearly outlined in the signed retainer agreement. Cordoba Legal Group does not and cannot control or alter anyones credit score, nor do we promise to improve credit scores.
In response to the claim that the client was advised to stop making payments, Cordoba Legal Group does not advise clients to stop making payments to creditors. Our personalized plans are designed for individuals who are already facing financial hardship and cannot afford their payments. This process naturally involves accounts becoming past due as part of debt resolution efforts, but this is never advised by our firm.
Cordoba Legal Group strictly complies with all relevant laws, including the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR), the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA), the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). We do not charge upfront fees. Our fees are performance-based, meaning we only collect fees after achieving results, such as resolutions with creditors. Any payments made are deposited into a third-party account in the clients name, which the client fully controls. Funds from this account are used solely for creditor payments and performance-based fees after results are produced.
Additionally, all fundsexcluding those applied toward the resolution we successfully achievedhave already been refunded.
Cordoba Legal Group cannot remove or alter any negative marks on credit reports. Credit reporting is managed solely by creditors and credit bureaus. However, we are happy to clarify any misunderstandings and work with the client to provide documentation of the resolutions we have achieved.Customer Answer

Cordoba Legal Group appreciates the opportunity to address your concerns. Based on our records, when retaining our services, you had over $20,000 in debt, as documented in the signed contract. You chose a personalized plan based on your affordability, which spans 46 months. To date, you have completed 20 months of the process.
The purpose of your plan is to address your financial situation with a structured approach, which has already produced tangible results. Resolutions have been achieved with three of the four creditors you retained us to assist with, resulting in over 50% in savings on those accounts. This progress aligns with the terms of the plan you agreed to and demonstrates the performance-based nature of our fees, which are only taken when results are produced.
Regarding your statement about debts appearing on your report, please note that debts remain on credit reports until the creditor reports them as resolved. This can take some time, but we are here to assist and clarify any specific details if needed.
The funds you contribute are held in a third-party account that you control and are used for resolving accounts. We encourage you to login to your online portal so you can see every transaction that has happened. We have submitted the proof of contract signed by you and the settlement letters on the three accounts we have spoken about here.
Our team will reach out to address your questions directly and ensure you have a clear understanding of the progress made and next steps. We are committed to helping you achieve financial resolution as outlined in your personalized plan.Initial Complaint

I was contacted by cordoba legal for debt consolidation that I was struggling to pay from 2 separate loans. I made an agreement for 24 payments that would add up to roughly $10k. Im at the 13th installment and they cannot produce a clear record of what has been paid or the balance I have. They are trying to push me onto their own loan company that has a very high predatory apy. This loan is for an amount greater than I even started with. Despite me telling them Im not interested, they continue to push this. Not loanosity employees, but cordoba legal employees are calling me to push this. They have also told me many different numbers on what I still owe overall. It sounds like nothing has been paid off after 13 months.Business Response

We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns regarding your personalized plan with Cordoba Legal Group. Our goal is to provide clarity and support throughout the resolution process. Below, we have outlined the relevant details regarding your case and the concerns raised in your complaint.
Cordoba Legal Group was retained to assist with two creditors. To date, we have achieved a resolution with one of your creditors, and the resolution terms have been fully paid as per the agreement established by that creditor. There is one remaining account that we are working to resolve within the timeframe outlined in your personalized 24-month plan. This timeline was structured to align with your financial needs and affordability.
Regarding the optional loan offer, the loan offer is facilitated by a third-party lender, and the option is intended to accelerate the process for clients who choose to utilize it. It is entirely voluntary. A consent form was signed allowing your information to be shared with this third-party lender, but the decision to proceed is always yours. If you are not interested, you are not obligated to accept or pursue the loan.
We would like to clarify that Cordoba Legal Group does not oversee or influence the terms, costs, or process of this third-party loan offer. If you feel you have been contacted inappropriately regarding this loan, we will review the communications to ensure adherence to our policies and address any potential misunderstandings.
Finally, we are happy to provide a detailed breakdown of your account, including payments made, balances, and the status of your resolutions. Transparency is important to us, and if there has been any confusion regarding this, we are committed to resolving it promptly. Please rest assured that every payment made has been directed toward the purpose outlined in your agreement.
Our team will reach out to clarify your questions and ensure you have a clear understanding of your progress. We remain committed to assisting you and achieving the resolutions outlined in your personalized plan.Initial Complaint

I have terminated our agreement and they are refusing to give me any type of refund. After attempting to email them with no responses I called them to find out about the refund and the gentleman I spoke with said I would not be receiving any money back. I have been with them for 1 year and 4 months and have no settlements on my account.Business Response

Our records indicate that we have successfully achieved four resolutions on your behalf, resulting in over $10,000 in savings. All relevant resolution documentation has been provided for your review, verifying these outcomes. Any funds applied from your account were used to pay creditors as part of these resolutions, consistent with the terms outlined in your agreement.
Cordoba Legal Group operates on a performance-based fee structure, meaning fees are only taken after results are produced. Since resolutions have been achieved, no refund is due, as these funds were applied toward creditor payments and associated performance-based fees.
We understand your frustration regarding communication and will ensure our team reaches out to address any remaining questions you have. Cordoba Legal Group remains committed to transparency and delivering results as outlined in the agreed terms of your personalized plan.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:
Dear BBB (****),I am writing in response to the complaint I filed regarding the actions of Cordoba. Despite my consistent payments over the past 15 months, Cordoba has failed to settle any of my accounts as promised. In fact, the documents they provided me to confirm settlement of these accounts are incorrect and misleading.
1) Incorrect Documents: Of the four documents Cordoba sent me, one is not even related to my accounts, as it pertains to someone else entirely. Two others are still showing as unpaid and unsettled on my credit report, contrary to their claims of resolution. The remaining account has been sent to collections, further damaging my credit.
2) Unresolved Payment Issue: Despite my payments over the last 15 months, Cordoba has not settled any of my debts and has refused to refund any of the money Ive paid. I have formally requested a refund, but this request has been ignored.
3) Termination of Contract: I have already terminated my contract with Cordoba, and they have acknowledged the termination. However, they have not provided a resolution or refund for the services they failed to deliver.
I have now found a different company to represent me and am requesting your assistance in ensuring that Cordoba is held accountable for their failure to deliver the services promised and for retaining my payments without fulfilling their obligations.Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your help in resolving this issue.
Sincerely,

We acknowledge your concerns and appreciate the opportunity to provide clarity regarding your case. Our review of your file and associated documentation confirms that all four resolutions achieved were for accounts directly tied to you. The agreements with the creditors, including the account numbers, align with the information provided when you engaged our services. These account numbers were verified against the credit report pulled during the initial process, which you confirmed as accurate before retaining us.
Regarding your specific concerns:
1. Account Documentation: The documents provided are accurate and pertain to your accounts. We encourage you to compare the account numbers in the resolution documents with the original information supplied in your agreement with us. These match the accounts listed in the credit report we used to establish your plan. Any discrepancies may stem from guidance given by another company, which we urge you to verify independently.
2. Resolution of Accounts: Four resolutions were achieved on your behalf, with payment plans structured in accordance with agreements reached with your creditors. However, because you chose to discontinue services, not all resolutions were fully paid as outlined in those agreements:
- ********* of America): Only 10 out of 36 agreed payments were made, resulting in an incomplete resolution due to your cancellation.
- Synchrony: This account was fully resolved through the three payments outlined in the creditor agreement.
- Citibank (CBNA): Only 4 out of the 16 agreed payments were made, resulting in an incomplete resolution due to your cancellation.
- CCB/Academy (Second Round): 5 out of the 6 agreed payments were made; the resolution was not fully paid because of your cancellation.
3. Payments and Fees: All payments made were directed to your third-party account, and we only assessed performance-based fees once resolutions were achieved. We do not retain any unearned fees, as stipulated in the agreement. Our records show that the timeline and fees were consistent with the terms outlined in your contract.
We have already provided all documentation supporting the facts outlined in our previous response. Cordoba Legal Group does not control your third-party account; funds are only released once the resolutions are verified as legitimate. You may contact the third-party account provider directly to confirm that all payments made to your creditors were for the resolutions we achieved on your behalf.
Finally, we confirm receipt of your decision to discontinue services with us, which we have honored. While we are confident that all services provided were executed as agreed, we remain committed to addressing any lingering concerns. Our team will reach out to you directly to review the details of your account and ensure all information is clear.
Thank you for allowing us to address your concerns.Customer Answer

Cordoba Legal Group is a legitimate law firm committed to delivering results for its clients through a structured, results-oriented approach. While we respect your concerns, your complaint does not align with the facts of your case.
You retained our firm to represent you against six creditors. To date, we have achieved resolutions with four accounts: three with *********** and one with ****. These resolutions saved you thousands of dollars, as evidenced by the attached resolution contracts. The fees associated with our services were performance-based, meaning we only earned fees once results were produced, as outlined in the contract.
Regarding the claim that we promised to remove negative accounts from your credit report, its important to clarify that our firm does not make such guarantees. Our focus is on resolving debts, not credit repair. Additionally, any impact on your credit score was explained during on boarding and in the signed contract. Credit scores may decrease as a natural part of the resolution process, which is designed for individuals who are unable to continue making payments to their creditors.
The suggestion that no progress was made is incorrect. The resolution of four accounts demonstrates substantial progress. All funds you paid into your account were held in a third-party account under your control and used exclusively for resolutions and associated fees once results were produced. At no point do we advise clients to stop making payments, but we do work with individuals who are already struggling to keep up with payments.
If there are any remaining concerns or misunderstandings, our team will reach out to address them and provide further clarification.
